Lanretoye:Why will the salary be delayed in the first place? Some people's only job is to pay salaries and they are failing woefully. Instead of you to hold them accountable, you chose to blame the victim. How can our nation be better with this mentality, when something as little as paying people who have worked can't be sorted hitch free? This, as they said is a repeated occurrence and not only June, if you didn't read. |

Its very unfortunate for over 20 years I have seen how ASUU strikes have stunted the growth and potential of Nigerian youth in the universities across the nation. The politicians came p with the idea of sending their kids to school abroad and establishing private varsities. But the lecturers and academics are the cause of their problems, when they decided to hobnob with the politicians , selling themselves cheap like crayfish. Why should a university professor serve as an INEC returning officer or collation officer. I performed that role in 2007 , collation officer were either HND or Bsc holders , years back they were school cert holders and they performed their duties competently. ASUU members are the cause of their problems, these politicians send their kids abroad, so the strike will be a long one. The primary purpose of the academics is to critique the government not like their boots. ASUU has failed woefully in this regard, and worsened matters by dishing out PhDs for cash. |

Though we understand the importance of paying salary as at when due especially for someone who rely only on salary, but going on strike for a salary delay of barely a week is completely political and I hope if they go on this strike and government also refused to pay for the time they went on strike there won't be any bohaha and their supporters on this forum will do well not to disturb us. |

There are a lot of unscrupulous elements in ASUU. Barely a week after the month end, you are declaring a nonsense strike. |

This same ASUU is the architect of Nigeria problems. They facilitate and ensure that elections are properly rigged meanwhile they're always at the receiving end of the effects of bad government |

AntiChristian:Something is definitely wrong with you. They are in strike due to incessant delays in salary and with their agreement with NEC, they are simply enforcing "no pay, no work" I don't think you know what it means to have your salary (which isn't even enough) to be delayed constantly. Then for your information, in industrial relations and labor matters, strike is a legal mechanism to achieve industrial solutions. Emphasis on LEGAL. If the government doesn't want them to go oj strike, they should pay them their money. They've earned it! Or do you hear of senators salaries ever being delayed?? |

Flame333:Can you please read the news? The delay in salary have Ben happening for months now. They've engaged the minster of education and Accountant General but none seem to care. Read the news for God's sake |

Lanretoye:Exactly the silly defence of an average Nigerian who take everything as an attack on the government they support. I knew exactly that your defense of this ineptitude is just because the failure brought to light will make your supported government look bad. So how is it that the reasons you give for failure are recurring without solution? Who is to provide solution to the failures if not the same government? A government that delay salaries repeatedly and people are shamelessly defending them? No wonder we continue being where we are and worse. Again, non of the reasons you are fronting for your dear government are not mentioned in the article. The main reason is clearly stated as human ineptitude by some unserious morons holding positions, being paid and not doing their jobs. Instead of you to attack them, you are beating about the bush. They are the ones painting your government bad and not the victim, ASUU |

Lol... ASUU is enforcing the "No pay, no work" rule & heavens didn't fall but when the role is reversed and FG decides to enforce "No work, no pay" if the need arises, that's why you'll see them crying like bush babies. Notwithstanding, what's the reason for delaying their salaries? Was there any communication with the leadership of ASUU by the FG giving reasons why their members' salaries are delayed & apologize for the inconveniences? In every conflict, communication is key! |

Lanretoye:It's as if you are not abreast of what has been happening to the people on GIFMIS since the beginning of the year. Since January, no one was paid salary at the right time. It has been delaying for at least 8 days into the new month. That's what informed the decision by ASUU because it has become a concurrent menace. |

| Re: ASUU Directs Members To Begin Nationwide Strike by zikter(m): 10:22am On Jul 08, 2025 |
Paramount01:The issue is many of you fail to read articles or read but don't comprehend. Go and read it again. 1. ASUU said this is not once or one off situation. It is repeatedly occuring with varying periods of delay. 2. They had meetings with the Minister of Education and the Accountant general over this to no avail. So what are you talking about one week? |
| Re: ASUU Directs Members To Begin Nationwide Strike by meobizy(m): 10:23am On Jul 08, 2025 |
ASUU strikes are peak periods for this forum. I remember one which lasted a full nine months. Nairaland became so full that downtimes were a frequent occurrence. |

One of the most useless union in the country that has outlived it usefulness and the only weapon they have is strike . Are not their members who collect millions from politicians during election cycle . Some private institution might even be the ones sponsoring them to go in strike . |

zikter:What are you saying? You lock school because of the salary they are now paying every 30days from the day they paid the last payment. If I collect my salary on 7th of last month and they still pay me 7th of this month ,abeg no be still 30 days be taht |
| Re: ASUU Directs Members To Begin Nationwide Strike by zikter(m): 6:18am On Jul 09, 2025 |
Paramount01:No, it's never done like that. You are getting it upside down. People's appointment letters carry specific pay dates, and infact, if such a day falls on a weekend or public holiday, it is stated clearly that they will be paid a day earlier. Anything after that date without payment is simply delay in payment. In your logic now, assuming the government does not pay on the 7th again but on the 15th of next month, then continue again on the 15th, they should keep quiet because it is from 15th to 15th. Come on, you too look at it very well. Does it make sense? But that is exactly what happened. They are just shifting the salary pay date at will. Please, this failure is indefensible if we are sane and we want a sane Country as others. We should be bigger than this and people must be accountable on their jobs. Preparing and paying salaries should not be rocket science in this century |

Tareq1105:Oga rest if you're misinformed. Last month salary was paid on the 13th. April salary dropped second week of May. March dropped first week of April. It's a pattern that has been happening. Other agencies get paid before the 30th or even 25th. Why are tertiary institutions left out? Some pple have payment obligations that must be met before the new month. How do they cope? |
