Subsidy is relative. Dont the APC govt subsidize religion and corruption? Why cant coalition subaidize Nigerians.

The governor is among those deceiving Nigerians. The removal of subsidy was done in order to suffer the masses. I don't believe there's anything like subsidy. What we call subsidy today is the difference between international price of fuel and local price of fuel, now it is wrong for the government of Nigeria to make the people in Nigeria pay international price of fuel and at the same time pay local wages or salaries to people resident in Nigeria.

Again, the government of tinubu devalued naira through his policy of naira float from # 460 per dollar official rate to around # 1600 per dollar, thereby grossly lessening the purchasing power of the people.

Not stopping at that, there is increased drive for tax collection, still aiming at collecting more from the people.

Payment of customs duty is pegged at dollar exchange rate which is affected by Naira float, still the government is comfortable with that.

What is the rational behind the calculation of customs duty with dollar rate whereas Nigerians are paid with naira.

Let the government equate monthly salary to dollar then tell us how countries are paying that in their country.

To my opinion, it is wickedness in the highest order for this government to aggravate the sufferings of the people and still remain comfortable because they have more money to embezzle.

Why is Nigeria's purchasing power so low? That they can even afford PMS that they produce

Why did the Naira collapse when Tinubu stopped currency control of the Naira, which consumed $1.5 billion a month?

The Chinese and Indians were riding bicycles in the 1970s and 1980s, but they were also building long-term supply chains and electricity infrastructures that could support industrial development. Today, China and India are the number 1 and 2 in steel, aluminium, and automobile production in the world.

Nigeria can either suffer to industralise or drift into external inrelevance.

By releasing more funds to your state govs to develop their states but they refused to do so,how is it Tinubu's problem if your gov refuses to use your state resources judiciously rather it's a vindication that the man means we'll fit this country......

Opposition knows they can't bring back subsidy. It would basically take us back to how bad things were when we virtually had run out of money and most of our cash was going to debt service.

This is not the question about bringing back subsidy. Subsidy is gone. Not that I'm crying over split milk, what pains me is the ball GEJ did not have when it comes to the subsidy saga and the double standard Tinubu played including his sponsored protest in Ojota, Lagos in 2012 is still fresh in my memory. I remember that Tinubu said subsidy is a scam. The same subsidy he eventually removed when he comes to power. One remembers the confessional statement Fayemi gave in a public forum about how they played politics with the whole saga back then when GEJ was in power.

Anyways, what matters right now is what is FG doing with the returns on subsidy, are they using it for the betterment of the citizens or they are looting it? I believe the latter is the answer.

At least we know APC as the subsidy removal party. For now, they have staked their flag to that.

Many of you people don't know how subsidy works, and that the only problem is not corruption.

Petrol is something that its refining costs go up year to year. Add the fact that workers at your refinery want to be paid, add upgrade and maintainance costs, and at the end, subsidy costs will go up year in year out, and leave a large deficit for us.

Want to know how we lost 4 refineries. Government stopped properly maintaining them as and at when due in 1994...because it was becoming difficult to pay for upgrade and maintenance costs from subsidy.

Infact, we used to subsidise food. Like milk. We stopped in 1985, because milk import costs were rising and the oil prices were too low to keep up.

Which brings me to my final point. Oil revenues are not enough for Nigeria until we pass 110 dollars per barrel...if not higher. That's why some of us want APC Out, they don't want to diversify the economy at all.

Forget corruption...yes it plays a role, but even if we commot am tomorrow, subsidy will always chop a large part of our budget, then we have to take loans.

Government was not functioning when subsidy was around, they were borrowing money, against future oil earnings amongst other things, to pay subsidy and also put in their pockets.

The populists governments we had were simply pushing the problem to the next one. Subsidy should have been done away with ages ago so that we would have hopefully turned the corner by now. Mind you with the corruption in play they would have found other ways to chopulate it too.

You people should go and sit down, it's typical of Nigerian politicians to jump ship at any point in time. Was it not alignment and realignment that helped APC oust PDP in 2015?
