Anyone Who Comes To America And Tells You Not To Come Is Your Worst Enemy by NewYorker15(op): 8:43am On Jul 08, 2025
Anyone who tells you that you shouldn't come to the US is your worst enemy. I see no reason why some Nigerians will come here, see everything going on and how life goes over here and tell those back home not to come. I believe it's out of wickedness, selfishness, and a way to manipulate people to remain in an environment that doesn't work. I have been here, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for two months, just to observe and be sure, and I can tell you that the US is by far better and safer than Nigeria, contrary to what some say who just paint the US bad. I can tell you that those who come to the US and suffer fall under three categories: illegal immigrants, those who don't plan well, and those who are lazy. If you are sure you don't fall into any of these categories, please kindly move your village to the US if you can. I have been here for barely two months, and what is different? Many things, too numerous to mention. Is it the constant power supply? The speedy internet? Is it the job availability or the infrastructure? Is it the safety and the exercise of your rights, or the fact that people don't cry about hunger as a major concern? I can't type everything here. Those who come to the US, attend school, and go back fall under two categories: children of politicians or children of big business moguls like Dangote, Otedola, etc., who already have higher-paying jobs in the federal government or business organizations to control. This is not to castigate my country, but let's call a spade a spade. The US and Nigeria are light years apart. I hope the argument is now settled.

The argument is not settled, It is not. You will always be second class citizens and you will always be at the mercy of the system.

Come back which home?

Nigeria is not moving forward, though I know you're joking cos I've read a couple of your comments and your aspiration to leave that country. Please do!

Here we go again. Another Nigerian trying to hoodwink people to remain in this country.
It's better to be a second class citizen in another country than to be treated not only like an alien but like an enemy in your country.
Second class citizen whose safety is 70 percent guaranteed is better than a vulnerable first class citizen in his country.
A second class citizen where bandits will not butcher human beings and go unpunished is better than a first class citizen in a country where bandits can have a field day.

A second class citizen with available basic amenities is better than a first class citizen in a country where people shout UP NEPA and rush to neighborhood to get their phones charged. @AngelicBeing another wonderful Yankee thread 😁

In Nigeria the jobs are not even available.
In the US, one can work two or three shifts, in Nigeria, there's no job that's why many youths engage in robbery, kidnapping and yahoo.

You even have the time to respond to him. I have made up my mind not to keep arguing with people here. Those who choose to remain in a country where virtually nothing works should please do and those who will leave should leave.

This matter is never arguable. America and Europe are miles ahead of Africa, Nigeria is the worst case scenario.

No matter who you are if you aren’t satisfied with where you currently are then you won’t be satisfied where you relocate to. You will always have reasons to complain over there also but that time you won’t be able to say it out.

Finance and comfort is your problem for now. And relocation can solve it for you but wait until other things on Maslow’s hierarchy if needs hits you.

Those who relocate it’s their nature and personality. They relocate because they are nomads not because they are suffering. Any normal person that relocates comfortably will never come online to rant.

Should we all leave Nigeria because we have issues, those countries you guys migrate to don't they have challenges, most problems in Nigeria can be handled by individuals especially Electricity, don't you know Nigeria is even better than most of these countries you all ran too.

Which America? The one Trump is racistly throwing immigrants out?

US is not the only haven for opportunities.

You have spent 2 months, and you think you understand everything. I tend to respect opinion of those who have spent years, and have passed through phases of honeymoon stage to settling in. For the overwhelming majority of Nigerians (95%), its a no brainer that they should grab the opportunity to leave Nigeria for US legally. However, they should also understand the downsides, failure to want to understand and accept the downsides is why many immigrants carry ring light and camera and start complaining few years down the line and asking others not to come.

There is no perfect system, @op you are in honeymoon phase, probably squatting and not even paying rent yet and still eating free food.

I felt the same way when I left Nigeria and in a country that isn’t on par with the USA and I was still able to achieve in 2 years what I won’t achieve in 100 years in Nigeria.

First, it is a sacrilege to compare the US to Nigeria. We don't just meet up. That is the bare truth.

As for migrating and economic opportunities, the US is the best place for skilled Black professionals. A Senegalese friend who did a one month stint at a research institute narrated how the salaries of researchers in similar positions earn 3X what he earns as a researcher working in Yokohama. This is someone who has a PhD and speaks very good Japanese. However, he stated that the cost of living is way higher and one thing he noticed is that a car is a necessity, unlike in Japan.

Agreed that the US is not the only haven for opportunities, but for Black immigrants? It is the best place. The stats prove it. African Americans are the wealthiest set of Black people in the world. Last month, I conversed with a Taiwanese-American who worked in HR, and she attested that many of the scholarships American companies set aside for African Americans were taken up by Nigerians (she did not specify the generation). The companies were worried because these people are clearly not those who deserve this support, but because they meet up the requirements and are categorised as Black people, hey, what can they do? Nigerians, according to her, flood the NASA and top academic institutions/companies in the US. At recruitment fairs, they take up juicy positions.

The rant about racism is largely meaningless considering most Nigerians are tribal dem0ns.

This is quite important but right now Trump's team is filled with racists and they are showing it off.

It's important to note that Southwards of America had so much for Africans too. Now they have reduced visa validity to a mere 3months, I think it'll dig up other opportunities

After they gave us 5 years validity, but we did not offer them 5 years as well.

Fair enough.

Your information is not correct and I know you can easily verify that. I don't have any issues with the new visa policy which is better that the restriction placed in 2020, but the reason given is a ruse and you fell for it. As someone who have invited over 50 US citizens to Nigeria, I don't need the US government to tell me anything about Nigeria visa policy for US citizens.

This is where the US is different from other Western countries. As long as your stay is legal and you are law-abiding, you are well protected under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments of the Constitution, so even the president will have a tough time exercising undue power over you when you are within those rights.

The U.S is a country of immigrants, which is what makes it receptive to immigrants seeking a better life (asides trumps hard stance which is mostly towards illegal immigrants and criminals anyway). Even Trump's grandparents migrated from Germany and Scotland.

It's indeed the land of the free and home of the brave.
