El-Rufai: Why Everyone Told Me I Made A Mistake by iwaeda(op): 9:50pm On Jul 10, 2025
Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has said his decision to choose a different path by speaking up made “everyone to tell me that I made a mistake”.

According to TheCable, El-Rufai said this in Abuja, on Thursday, during the launch of “OPL 245: Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Nigerian Oil Block”, a memoir written by former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Bello Adoke.

The former governor also hinted that he was preparing a second memoir to further document his experiences in public service, declaring that he has no regrets from his time in office.

Reflecting on his first book, “The Accidental Public Servant”, published over a decade ago, El-Rufai said it was written to offer an honest account of his time in government, even though many advised him against it.

“About 12 years ago, I presented The Accidental Public Servant, which was a record of my experience in public service. It showed how friends abandon you, betray you, and how those you’ve helped can turn against you,” he said.

“They said I had made a mistake and would never be allowed near the government again. But I chose a different path. In Nigeria, they expect you to keep quiet after office. I refused to do that.”

El-Rufai, who served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under President Olusegun Obasanjo before becoming governor of Kaduna State, said he stands by every decision he made in public office.

“I don’t believe I have anything to hide. I still don’t. And I know Bello Adoke has nothing to hide either,” he said.

He praised Adoke for using his memoir to clarify his role in the controversial OPL 245 deal, for which he was cleared of wrongdoing by courts in Nigeria, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

“You can write a book like that and hold your head high, knowing you did nothing wrong. I urge those in power today to remember that your turn will come,” El-Rufai added.

He said his upcoming book will offer deeper insights into the principles and decisions that shaped his years in public service, urging others in leadership positions to also document their experiences for the sake of posterity and public understanding.

Hell-Ruffian just own up that you are regretting your ill-timed and i'll thought-out vengeful actions against the very government you fought so hard to bring into power.

Now, it has backfired!

It's common knowledge that if your nomination brought before the NASS had sailed through, you would have been singing a different tune by now.

A classical example of "Original Bad Belle"(OBB).

Just continue to concentrate on your book writing skills. It would do you a lot of good.

The future looks bleak for you politically and by 2027, you would have no other choice but to go on voluntary retirement from active politics.

Strange how his fanaticism wasn't a problem when BAT invited him to Chatham house to drive his national security policy before the elections.

Because Obi will not give shishi to the delegates where as Atifku and others will likely pamper the delegates with plenty shishi. Who do you think a delegate that has collected plenty shishi will nominate as the flag bearer?

Unfortunately Nigerians have the shortest memory in the world. They have forgotten already. Hell Rufia was a twitter addict in the months before 2015. Once he became governor, his APC (Aggrieved peoples congress ) govt banned twitter. Nigerians have forgotten. Very soon he will be back because dem don chop leave am. Before 2015, my guy used to host question and answer sessions on twitter several nights. At a point he blocked me on twitter because i kept asking him why he no longer discuss freely on twitter. and Boom! they banned twitter.

In the 8 years of Bubu, Southern Kaunda was a field of bloodletting for many years. Guess who was in charge? I really wonder why Nigerian politicians don't have shame. He even convinced the worst president ever to give us his kind and now you're crying fowl because he refused to make you relevant. Must you be relevant in every government?

I'm wondering why the tall man forgot that during Bouhary's tenure, he was part of the cabal that didn't allow Bubu to remember E mi lo kan. But somehow, nemesis made him to confuse Bubu last minute to allow e mi lo kan to take over. And there, his fate was waiting for him on the road he took to avoid it.

I'm still wondering why Peter Obi has decided to be part of this coalition that ends with another C. All the Cs that have befallen this country have always been an epidemic. APC, INEC, Corruption, Covid, and now ADC. I really wonder whether anything good can come out of this new C other than Hell Rufia trying to prove that he can make and unmake a president. And Hatikuh believes he will still be president whether they like it or not. This is the only thing that i've seen. I've not seen people who are driven by ideology or selflessness to make the country great. Can i trust an HellRufia to improve the country when in 8 years, he was one of the most powerful members of the Bubu kitchen cabinet yet that was the worst government and laid the foundation for what we're experiencing now?

The fact that we even have an e mi lo kan means the president before him allowed it. The e mi lo kan was not in government. And initially we believed that bubu was supporting Ahmaechi and the support shifted to hamed Lawani, at least their party chairman at that time indicated so. And this tall man later confused him to give it to e mi lo kan. Now see where we are. He's looking for another replacement because they sidelined him. Greedy politicians everywhere.

This is what you get when freinds know you didn't win the Presidential election but stolen from Peter Obi . The arrows have started flying left and right.
The reason none of this politicians respect the present government. The election was rigged in daylight robbery.

El Rufai was in the same place that ebilokan was during Buhari’s mismanagement.

If he didn’t do anything about insecurity in his state then why did ebilokan delegate questions to him and others since the Lagos bullionaire is clueless about governance even though he is a brilliant rogue of the people’s taxes?

Maxymilliano:
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained why he delegated some members of the party to respond to questions posed to him.
According to the former Lagos Governor, he adopted the delegation method “to show team-ship”.

Tinubu spoke at the Chatham House lecture titled: ‘Nigeria’s 2023 elections: In conversation with Bola Ahmed Tinubu’, monitored by The Nation.

At the lecture, Tinubu after his opening remarks, assigned Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai to speak on how his (Tinubu-led) government would address insecurity and asked the Director of Strategic Communication of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dele Aleke, to respond to the question on oil theft.

The reason none of this politicians respect the present government. The election was rigged in daylight robbery.
Nothing was stolen from the leader looter of ethnoreligious bigots who made ebilokan’s dream of continuing APC shege easier.

They voted 100% in the five SE states for ebilokan indirectly, after Wike kicked Obi out of PDP to divide the party’s votes. Was that not how Obi’s Fidelity Bank boy kicked him out of APGA when he tried and failed to be the local godfather huh

jameshankss:
Arguing that Obi’s presidential bid would only work in favour of Tinubu, Soludo said, “Indeed, if I were Asiwaju Tinubu, I would even give Peter Obi money as someone heading one of the departments of his campaign, because Obi is making Tinubu’s pathway to victory much easier by indirectly pulling down PDP.”

Obi, according to Soludo, would only deplete the votes of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and pave the path for an APC victory.

He stated, “The current fleeting frenzy, if not checked, will cost Ndigbo dearly for years. The South-east has the lowest number of votes of any region, but it is also the only region where the presidential race might be a four-way race (it is a two-way race in the other five regions) thereby, ensuring that our votes won’t count in the making of the next president of Nigeria.
