But it seems convenient to you that people need to travel from their states to Abuja to authenticate and legalize their documents. And also apply for Visas to other countries. Most times we complain when it affects us personally, we are not really interested in changing the system. Nellyjo: |

SugarPg:We are naturally selfish. Despite everything being said, Brazil is one of the most generous country towards Africa in general when it comes to visa purposes. I personally know 5 people that got admitted to universities in Brazil with scholarships this year. Nigerians with entitlement mentalities would not cease to surprise me |

The Brazilian citizens go out of their way most times to assist foreigners. I know the level of kindness my course mates and supervisor have extended towards me, to make my life easy here. Some students in some research project receives mouth watering monthly stipends that you will be amazed at the figures. It is a good country with so much to offer. Letsmove: |

For a frequent traveller, you can actually have your passport sent back to you while your visa processing is ongoing at the Brazilian Consulate. All you have to do is, attach a written request, including copies of every single page of your passport when sending them your documents. They'll send your passport back immediately, and request for it if your application is successful. sadegivens0: |

“Fantastic! If that’s truly the case, that’s excellent news.” I will definitely take that into consideration. Thanks for sharing that information. Africankel: |

I have done my own research but, i could not find any official information on the Brazilian Consulate in Lagos's website or other reliable sources explicitly stating this policy. Here's what the official sources generally indicate for the Brazilian Consulate in Lagos Traditional Visa Applications (Consulate-General in Lagos): The e-consular portal for the Consulate-General of Brazil in Lagos mentions that they operate with reduced capacity and processing times can be 30 to 90 days. For inquiries, they advise sending an email to consular.lagos@itamaraty.gov.br. There's no mention of a passport return service during ongoing processing. Therefore, relying on the information you have without official confirmation could lead to issues. At this moment, the ball is in their court. I’m awaiting their final decision or next steps. With that, lets move on. @Africankel |

@Africankel… It appears that we are still on this topic. Having read the email exchange between you and the Consulate. The email from the Consulate contradicts the previous statement about retrieving passports without prejudice, implying that the originals are needed for the initial submission. Here's a breakdown of what each part implies: Content: "You may retrieve your passports without prejudice to your visa application’s, but remember of making complete colorful copies of your passports, send with the originals, which will be returned to anytime at your order to some parcel service company, informing us ahead of time." Explanation: This sentence is a bit awkwardly phrased but conveys an important message. It means that the applicant can take their passports back even while their visa application is being processed, but they must submit complete, color copies of their passports along with the original passports. The original passports will be returned to the applicant via a parcel service at their request, provided the consulate is informed in advance. "Without presenting the original passports, though, your visa application will not be processed." This statement means that you must show your actual, physical passports when you submit your visa application. Explanation: This is a crucial instruction. It explicitly states that the visa application will not be processed if the original passports are not presented to the consulate in the first place. This contradicts the previous statement about retrieving passports without prejudice, implying that the originals are needed for the initial submission. Here's a breakdown of what each part implies: "Without presenting the original passports...": This emphasizes that copies, scans, or any other form of reproduction of your passport will not be accepted. They need to see the genuine document. "...though,...": This acts as a transition, highlighting the critical nature of the preceding condition. "...your visa application will not be processed.": This is the consequence. If you don't provide the original passports, the people reviewing your application will not even begin to look at it, much less approve or deny it. It will be immediately halted or rejected at the initial stage. In essence, it's a non-negotiable requirement. No original passports, no visa processing. |

Eyinbo yi po. However, the guy could be correct cos it seems its his experience. as the email was sent to him in 2023. Also, consider this that the typos in the email could slightly alter meaning. sadegivens0: |

Perhaps you should read my first comment. I stated clearly that "all you have to do is, attach a written request, including copies of every single page of your passport when sending them your documents." Cheers!!! sadegivens0: |
| Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by dvs511: 8:53pm On Jul 02, 2025 |
According to the email, it means; Submit your original passport with your application and also include colour copies of the pages of the passport. Afterwhich you can inform the consulate that you want to retrieve your passport while the visa processing is ongoing. Retrieving your passport will not affect the visa process. sadegivens0: |

Hello House, please for those who were called for an interview. I was wondering how long after the submission of documents were called for an interview |
| Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by Greatphase: 11:50am On Jul 08, 2025 |
House please answer: Please, can one apply for Brazilian transit visa via their embassy in another African country but fly through Lagos( Qatar airlines)? Do I submit a CONFIRMED ticket or just a flight itinery/ flight booking stating my route as Lagos to Sao Paulo even when I have residence permit of that African country or I state the route as 'African country to Sao Paulo' and change it later ( if flight itinery is accepted)? Note: I plan to continue my journey with LATAM to another South American country nearby with a residence visa from Brazilian airport, reason why I don't want any delay with any airline ie taking risk with time because I might have already booked with LATAM when applying for the Brazilian transit visa to show that my stay at the Brazilian airport/ ground is only temporary. |

Yes you can apply for the visa from Country A and still fly from Country B. Don’t purchase a flight ticket, unless it’s a refundable one. You can show a flight itinerary from ‘African Country’ and when you get your visa approved, book the ticket you really want to use from your preferred departure point.. Greatphase: |

dvs511:Thanks a lot for this idea. It means I may have to also get flight itinery too from LATAM to show the embassy as onward travel. God bless you. |

Hello everyone, I would sincerely appreciate some assistance with my inquiry. I’ve been following this thread since last night but still haven’t found clarity on the next steps to take. Here’s my situation: My wife is five months pregnant, and we’ve been planning for her to give birth in Brazil. However, we’ve encountered challenges with agents attempting to overcharge us, so someone told me to come seek guidance here. Initially, I wanted to understand the step-by-step process, from applying for the right visa to obtaining residency. But after reading on here about the high denial rates for tourist visas (especially since neither of us has prior travel history, despite having sufficient proof of funds), I’m feeling quite confused. Now, I’m considering a student visa as an alternative, but I’m unsure if this is the best option given my wife’s pregnancy. At this point, I’d really appreciate any advice on the most viable path forward and the specific steps we should take. Thank you in advance for your help! |

Goodyfixed:I would maybe suggest going through the Brazil admissions thread here on nairaland maybe. Just so you can get an idea of the timeline, also before you gather the needed documents and start searching for schools and applying, time go dey waka. The gcub i heard they only accepted a few Nigerians and its not good to put all your eggs in that basket and even if you get it before it processed and all, time would have gone. I really don’t know the best course of action honestly but im sharing my thoughts. |

hi is there anyone that registered their marriage in Brazilian embassy Nigeria. I got married in Europe and I tried to register my marriage in the embassy here, but they said I need to authenticate my birth certificate at their embassy in Nigeria first. I have done all authentication at the ministry of foreign affairs Nigeria, with the approved lawyer but the problem is on the portal they are asking for written letter verified in Brazil and also RN number . my wife said it for people in Brazil I don't know what to do. I have message the embassy on this matter and there don't say anything just send a blank email with a guide that doesn't handle my case. anyone with this same issue or been there |

Authenticate your marriage certificate in Europe...RN is when you are in Brazil.... the only thing we did was to translate our marriage certificate to Portuguese in Brazil and then we authenticate it... To be honest you did not really have a solid plan from the onset. Pregnancy is 5 months gone already. Your only option is if you can still get admission to a study program for the 2nd cycle(2025.2) that do commence studies by September. What is your course of study or that of your wife? Goodyfixed: |
| Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by belovedmimz: 12:37pm On Jul 13, 2025 |
Goodyfixed:Congratulations! May she deliver safely🙏 As for getting the visa and all that, it's safe to say that it may be late...she's over five months and doesn't have a visa yet. You also know that airlines have protocol to flying pregnant women - there's that to consider as well. You could still go ahead and use the study route; you could change plans a bit and wifey can have another baby while you're there...both babies will still get citizenship. Weigh alllllll your options sir, before going forward. There are a few people you could reach out to, that do birth tourism to Brazil specifically; some are here on Nairaland as well (check ktoptnt on Nairaland, Oreoluwa, Manuel Festus on YouTube). You can speak with them to know if there's still a chance or if any other options are available. Wish you the very, very best sir. |

LIBERTYXITY:thank you for responding. i tried to do it here in europe they said I must first authenticate my birth certificate at the brazilian embassy in nigeria . Now I have done everything just to submit it and get appointments for authentication. There are still asking for RN to just authenticate birth certificate on the portal. |
