Oyinbos dont like fufu due to its smell even though cassava is originally from Portugal.

I tried Abacha once. Not my thing. It was like cold palm oil mixed with vegetables. I just picked the ponmo in it and left the rest.
Abacha is over hyped... Very so over hyped
In my university days, I had a room mate from Anambra, who always talk alot about Abacha.... The day he made it, I was disappointed

It may be sweet and yummy. The only thing about it is dirtiness. It scares to see it.
Whatever you have to say concern you. That's my experience.

I don't see any dirtiness in amala and I don't see where dirtiness comes into play with this. Maybe you can explain yourself better, what scares you, is it the color or what?
The soup that comes with it.

Exactly.
Amala is just dry yam grinded.
Ewedu is jute leave or molokhia as its called in the Mediterranean countries.
Gbegiri is blended beans.
The rest is blended peppers ( tomatoe, shepherds pepper and habanero/scott bonnets).
Assorted meats: Cow or goat/ram.

What is dirty in the soup that comes with it? Ewedu is Jute leaves and it's used all over the world. Gbegiri is from beans. The red stew is normal red stew. Where exactly is the dirtiness?

I was just submitting my post when I saw yours too. Some folks don't understand that these choices are just about mere familiarity, then they slam a justification on it. I could easily slam "dirtiness" on a lot of Ibo food but I know better.

You can't find me eating some Mexican or Chinese food but I won't slam an unfair justification to defend my choice, I'm just not familiar with their food and they don't appeal to me. That is understandable.

Ibos don’t have fufu, they eat Akpu.
FreeSpirited:
But igbos don't like Amala and Ewedu
They used to talk down on amala + ewedu as a shitty combination.
They rather hail fufu + abacha
While Oyinbo just appreciated Amala and Ewedu as a great culinary discovery. This is surprising

Overrated food

That's all I have to say, thank youu
If that's true, we'll still not be having longer queue for Amala than we have for all other dishes combined in any city restaurant that sells Amala. Anywhere they sell Amala in and out of the country, the story is the same.

I have never eaten amala and ewedu/gbegiri before, due to the way people on the internet rubbished the food. I'm scared to try. I like amala and efo riro though.
Re: US Consulate Public Affairs Officer Ticks Amala Skye Off Her Bucket List by Willie2015: 3:43pm On Jul 19, 2025
Benue folks also eat amala...but the major difference is that their own version is strong.. not fele fele like the South West style.

I believe this cos I was in a second biggest hotel in Sokoto years ago when I first started enjoying my freedom as a young lady. As one who never really ate Amala growing up, I thought it was just meant for elderly since only my grand parents ate it daily, while the rest of the family ate eba, fufu or something else, so I was surprised to see Amala on the menu and ordered it to connect with home. You won’t believe that every guest that came after me ordered Amala and they were 99% northerners. At first I thought they were just trying to flow with the holy-hottie me, then later saw how the popular Amala buka too was packed full by them.
YesDaddyTill203:
Amala is now the favorite food at parties. People would rather have it than anything else.

A friend is having a party in Kaduna, and I was shocked to find out that Amala is on the menu. These are mostly Northerners with a bit of Yoruba in their heritage. She told me that everyone is now eating Amala. I was surprised.

What is amala without dirtiness...

The best amala is the one with a touch of dirtiness and rudeness

And yet, our brothers from the East are still using amala to abuse and insult us
