My father has a big compound. As of 24 I was itching to get my own apartment. I finally did and I left the house. I enjoyed my freedom to the fullest My privacy my clubbing late night dates and sexcapades. I enjoyed it all. But at the end my parents are old And it got me feeling that I should move back to my father's house It dint make sense that my dad has a huge compound and yet I'm living in an apartment where my rent has been increased to 850k What do you think? I want to completely move in the compound and live there and marry and born my children there. |

Are you returning to your parents because they are old or because you are intimidated by cost of living? If their ages are your motivation, your decision is nice. But I hope the planned relocation will not negatively affect your income. If cost of living is what is chasing you, you are still a prodigal son but returning to your parents' house is better than resorting to crimes. |

What about your siblings? What made you to leave at 24 and return 29. To us that left home in search for greener pastures, may we not return empty handed. |

RollinTNDA:only you can make your decisions... Spending 850k on rent yearly mean you are okay on your own but your father having the same thing you paid for means something else if you are thinking straight. You can channel that 850k to do something else but what do I know it's your decision still. |

Nairaland is filled with people whose parents have no house in the city. Go to your parents house, it's your right and inheritance. |

immortalcrown:Nothing like prodigal son. My father house he built I should leave it and be spending heavily on another man property Like I said that big compound is mine when they all go. So I'm thinking of taking ownership of the place now they are old. |

The moment you are ready to become a man, you will understand that life is about taking responsibility. What's your plan? To get Married there? Build a family there or move in and move out again when you want to get married? Taking responsibility would cost you a lot. It's up to you to decide what's best for you. |

If you papa have same mindset as you, he won’t build house. He’ll live in his parent’s old house till death. Find a less expensive apartment where you’re and move in oga. Your parent’s house is only yours after their death. Make money, check on them and take care of them by sending money from wherever you are and visiting. |

Clocking 29 this year. Stayed on my own for almost 5 years on the island. At the end of everything, realized i couldn't save anything because of exorbitant rent. Dad has a house on the mainland. I decided to go back and I don't regret. I now earn x5 of what i used to earn on the island when i was paying rent. This is Lagos. It's smart avoiding rent. This past year has been the best my life. I'm closer to my aging dad, made many memories, got many advice. Money can't buy this happiness. If you dey vex say i dey my papa house, wetin do your own? He didn't toil so hard for me to come and be paying rent with money i can use to set up my life. I've been able to do a lot for myself and family. Thank God i didn't listen to every advice. |

Tobest94:If your father owns a big house in the city where you reside and work. You won't talk like this. He just said his parent ar old nd the reason he is going back home is to go help them. Do you know how many times scammers have tried to withdrew my parents money just because my old parent are not updated ? If not that I stay with them, bad Nigerians/family members and friends would have collected all my parents hard earned money on in the name of helping out. Stay woke. |

RollinTNDA:bro show yourself the true SON of your father and that his investment on you was not a waste by 1st proving your worth of living independent of their wealth and then respond only when its their request... if otherwise you are WICK and failing & seeking the easiest way out.... qed |

You moved out to have fun and have freedom. Now reality have set in. You are still just a boy, you are jet to grow into a man.. If am your father I will make sure you spend five more years out there, so you can have real sense. Your motive is not that you want to be close to your parents, you are broke. Or else you won't have moved out in the first place. |

labake1:No be all papa get that type of myopic mindset, some are living alone still lazy and poor, a lazy man is a lazy man not about staying in your inheritance or rented apartment. How many people staying alone are well off or make it? |

Life is actually getting tougher for people especially in this part of our world. If that will save your budget and you are certain you'll have your privacy and freedom and respect, why do you need validation from anyone? I mean N850k Nigerian Naira is a big money to save, invest, buy land in the future and build. If you are given an apartment in your father's compound, you can marry and have your kids. Just look for a lady who shares the same vision with you. I have seen a family whose children are all living with them with their grandchildren. Their dad(grandpa) has about 6 flats in one compound and his 3 sons have a flat each(where they stay with their wives and kids). Wisdom today is profitable to direct. |

candygist:I warned op, they will respond unreasonably ![]() Everyone knows there is no benefit in wasting millions in rent you can invest if your father have a house in the city. Most nairalanders are myopic. Your submission is very wise. |

dederocs:Abi o. Father owns a big house in the city and I have my own space. 800k am suppose to use in collecting my own apartment in another man house. I will use it to invest in my profitable business and I will make more profit. it's a win win for me. |

There is nothing wrong with moving to your parent's house. I live about 15 mins drive from my parent's house, and I see them almost every day. Nothing I will give to them that will be superior than my presence, attention and time. I bet your parent will feel the same, and its a honour to them, and your days will be long. Also, there is no point paying astronomical rent when you can live rent free at your parent's house. Save up your rent, reduce your living expense and invest in your future. Mind you, living with parents is common in many parts of the world, in countries like Italy and India for example. Your life, your rules. If it makes sense to you and doesnt offend anyone or a crime, just do your thing and disregard public opinion, thats what it means to be a man. |
