Surprisingly, the person is not on Nairaland, not on Facebook or Twitter (at least not with that name), the account number too has not been posted on these platforms. As much as I want to get my funds back, I will also want to respect the person's privacy by not exposing the account details publicly, however, the name is Atobase Hammed Alabi ,

if anyone can or wants to help me get the details of the recipient, please send a DM here or mail me on contact@martinsmorris.com.ng

@nlfpmod please help out.
Check your email for previous transactions bearing that name ,luckily you might remember where and when you made previous transactions to the account. That way,you can trace the person .

I went to a gtbank branch and the lady bluntly told me they can not do anything about it until Opay contacts them. Opay, on the other hand is refusing to contact them because only the first 4 account numbers match. I am in a limbo, i don't even know. I have promised myself that if i visit another GTbank branch and they eventually help me out or restrict the account, I will go back to that first branch, meet the young banker and scream at her long eyelashes for deliberately assisting in fraud.
You might just have to visit several GTBank to get result. What i'm saying is that you might just have to visit another GTB branch that has more clout than the one you visited, like the Head Branch of the other branches in your locality, you feel me? undecided

That is the challenge of using Fintect companies...Its very simple and easier to use but complicated when issues arise..

Interoperability between fintechs/wallets and commercial banks can be challenging, particularly when it comes to erroneous transactions and information sharing. Typically, the onus is on the sending bank/institution to initiate a recall on behalf of their customers. However, it's unacceptable when the sending institution shifts the burden to you, asking u to go to GTB bank to disclose customer details. This approach is unprofessional, unethical, and potentially violates data privacy.

Obtain a court order to compel your bank to do a recall on ur behalf and reverse that money to you(that is if the money has not been spent). As a banker, I've encountered this issue frequently, even today. Usually, we honor legitimate recall requests, but the process should follow standard..

If the recipient has spent the funds, their account may be restricted (placed on lien) until they replenish the account to cover the amount in question.TBH,When issues like this arise, swift and proactive action is crucial. In commercial bank-to-bank transactions, such requests typically receive urgent attention. I hope you get assistance quickly.

Yesterday, I attempted to pay my mechanic the remaining balance of N128,000 for car repairs via my Opay app. I had previously paid him part of the amount. He provided the first four digits of his GTBank account, and an account appeared in my app after entering them. I confirmed with him that it was a GTBank account, and he agreed, so I transferred the funds.

A few hours later, the mechanic informed me he hadn’t received the money. Initially, we suspected a network delay and agreed to wait until today. However, this morning, he confirmed the funds were not credited, and I discovered I had sent the money to the wrong account. Shockingly, the recipient’s account shared the same first four digits, was also with GTBank, and both account holders have Yoruba Muslim names, an unlikely coincidence.

Upon checking my transaction receipt, I realized the account was one I had sent money to previously, which is why it appeared in my app. I immediately contacted Opay, but they stated they couldn’t initiate a recall because only the first four digits matched. They advised me to contact GTBank to obtain the recipient’s details or request a refund from the recipient. GTBank, however, refused to assist unless Opay contacts them, and Opay insists they cannot act due to the mismatch in account numbers. I’m at a loss on how to resolve this issue, as neither Opay nor GTBank is providing actionable assistance.

Is there a way to retrieve the recipient’s details using the transaction session ID or account number? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Please, i need help

I initially thought about that, but I also said to myself that the mistake was from me, and it will be somehow to restrict his account for something he has no idea about. If I had contacted him and he refused to refund, that definitely would be my next line of action, but the banks refusal to help out puts me in a difficult situation. I may have to get that court order and restrict his account for something he has no idea about.

UPDATE

I got an affidavit, now i am looking to submit it to a GT bank branch.
If it’s a Gtbank account you sent it to they can’t refuse if you have a court order…once they confirm that the money is in that recipients account…you have the right to get a court order ordering the transaction group to place a freeze on the account…once the customer knows his account is frozen he will go to the bank by force…

lol. I'd one day be forced to share an internal memo on nairaland.

why will the person empty the account when he wasn't expecting said funds? even if, the person should claim ignorance and agree for refund

else,
you know the BVN can be blacklisted for that and all accounts tied to that BVN would become frozen?

It's just that some times people are merciful too because the error are from them, but beneficiaries too shouldn't be fraudulent
Nothing like that, only the affected account will be restricted, and If he decide not to use it again, that money is gone forever. Banks don't have power to tamper with your details (including loan recovery) outside their system through bvn, only cbn have such power.

Also, bank will never reverse his money after restriction until they confirm from account holder the genuinty of his claim, because he can also lie about the false payment, so bank have to confirm from account holder before such money is reverse. In a situation whereby account holder could not be reach or present himself, the initiator have to write the bank through his lawyer, who must be ready to stand for him before they reverse his money.

If I understand you correctly, you stated above that the account you mistakenly credited was one you had previously sent money to, right? My question to you now is this: how is it that you don't remember the transaction or business you initially had with the owner of that account? Or do you normally send money to random people without keeping any record of the purpose?

I mean, don't you keep notes or narrations of your transactions? What I'm essentially asking is this: if you had indeed sent money to Atobase's account before, what kind of business did you have with him? That information could help you recall his full details — his office, shop, or whatever it may be.
Thank you for your response. I don't use Opay as my main bank, I only use them for daily/household transactions and quick buys, so i do quite a lot of transactions with it, even more than my main account, however, the mystery here is that I downloaded my account statement for the last 1 year, and still can not find that name in any transaction aside the eroneous transaction. But it is virtually impossible for it to appear on my beneficiary list if I have never transacted with it.

Maybe he's one of those people who just transfer money without bothering to include a transaction narration.

As for me if you download any of my bank statements every single transaction that I have initiated has a vivid narration of what it relates to

Take it from someone who has handled lots of court orders, to avoid contempt, after confirmation and legal department advise, if no response from account officer, funds will be reversed plus/minus consent if its already on lien.

Also know that misrepresenting facts can lead to BVN going into black book and I've handled some. People don't know much and I'm not here to educate anybody on things. So many legal and fiducial knowledge are unknown.

what if said fund was proceed of crime / laundering? will beneficiary spend it and claim ignorance?? People escape because Nigeria too is lawless

Try to figure out how you can contact the person you sent money to. Try to remember what previous money sent was for and with that you might find way to get in touch may be you bought something at a shop or someone gave you the account number. This is the simplest way to retrieve your money as the recipient can't deny it All dis useless banks will frustrate your life.

search your mail also. The transaction may have happened years before.
Re: How Do I Solve This Erroneous Transaction Error? by fineboynl(m):
Opay should only save beneficiary account. Account that you manually save.

I don't get the point while they are saving all bank accounts that you transfer to. Saving account of people you don't know.

If you complete a transfer say transfer successful. There should be a button like save account for future use.

It happened to be and opay refuse to help. They said the account number I intend sending it to doesn't look alike with the account. And it was opay to opay.

I chatted the guy on Whatsapp and he deactivated the WhatsApp instantly. I was on my bed when I check the previous transaction I did with that account. The date and time and time it was when I remember it was where I use to play snooker. Unfortunately the boy doesn't work there again and couldn't be traced.

I later remember the guy

Write to nibss with evidence of the transaction put opay support in copy then nbiss will write to Gtbank or write to opay as regards the transaction this will work like speed of light than running up and down and spending money in court

The thing is, I won't be spending much on legal fees as I have many friends and family members who are lawyers and will do it either pro bono or for a little payment. I intend to go to Opay HQ at Alausa tomorrow, and hopefully, we can start from there.

I don't use Opay, and as such, I may not fully understand how it works. But from your narration, you mistakenly transferred that amount to an account domiciled with GTBank, right?

If that's the case, an unintended amount of money has been transferred from your Opay account to an account held at GTBank. You see, this is one of the reasons I don't like using these online banks — they are often not accountable!

Granted, you made a mistake, but this is something Opay should take upon itself to resolve on your behalf, as your bank. I can't blame GTBank because there has been no formal complaint from your bank (Opay, in this case) to trigger a review or initiate a refund process.

Opay is the problem here — they are the ones not helping you. It’s their responsibility to contact and liaise with GTBank on your behalf.

Solution: Get a competent lawyer with a strong financial background to help with the case, and ensure the police are informed. You never know — the account you accidentally credited might be under surveillance for criminal activity or something similar.

Good luck.

I am going to alausa tomorrow.

Many people don't realize how important a transaction narration is — it can prevent a lot of issues.

The number is switched off, I have been trying the number since, please if anyone knows Bashir Ayuba Nuhu with Opay account number 8062408823, please help me reach him as he's not available since.

Please note, I never say that he stole the money , I made mistake and I need him to help me get the money back as the money is meant for something important to the receiver

FirstCounsel:
1. Quickly get a court affidavit and write both banks and have the actual funds in the account restricted.
2. Instruct a lawyer to file an action to have the funds reversed to you.
3. It's the only way out. And do so quickly before the unintended recipient dissipates the funds.
Stop wasting time and do as suggested.

This has happened to me before for the sum of 150k....

That was when I realized that banks can't take complain from customers that are not thiers... But they listen to themselves...

If you re- think, u will realize opays excuse is invalid.. the full acct number should be registered on your bank statement.. which one is first four digit... Access also displays only first for digits on your transactions receipt but if u go ND mk statement, it become full...

Opay is at fault here... Well, a court order will resolve it but will cost u 50k...

But that is if the funds is still in the acct... There are two types of court order, the civil ND the criminal court order... Any lawyer can get u the civil at 40-50k

But that will only instruct the funds recurving bank to reverse the funds if still in the customers acct..

But that can't tag the receiver as one who did any wrong,.... But the criminal court order is initiated only by the police... It is same court order, but accompanied with a police letter head stating that it has been investigated ND the said recipient is now assume to b a criminal, hence the bank can then be instructed to block his bvn...

That way he will b caught

Go to opays office, they will help by furnishing you with the recipients call number.

A stranger sent funds to my paypoint account months back and called me from opay office too, I then traced the transaction history, verified and credited the person.
It happens sometimes, pray the recipient is sensible.
