Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has welcomed a large number of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into his party in Kano State, News360 Nigeria reports.

Kwankwaso, who leads the influential Kwankwasiyya Movement, made this known on Friday through a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

He revealed that the mass defection took place on Thursday and involved thousands of residents from across Kano State who pledged allegiance to the NNPP.

“Yesterday was a momentous occasion, as I received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP)”, he wrote.

The former Kano State Governor, also revealed that during the event, he promised the defectors “equitable treatment and cooperation” in NNPP.

According to him, the leadership style in Kano State has continued to attract opposition party members into the NNPP.

“Speaking during the event at my residence in Kano, I welcomed the new members into our party and I promised them equitable treatment and cooperation.

“The distinguished leadership style in Kano and our political leadership keep attracting more people into our fold, and I encourage those considering joining to do so without any hesitation”, he wrote.

Tilumbu with his greediness can not savour an ordinary tie between him and Kwankwaso perhaps because he always wants to use people for his greediness, even at old age

Kwank my man. Of all the Northern politicians, he's the one I admire the most.

Till now, he takes care of widows, orphans and still assists to finance the education of a lot of needy students.

Now, I can unequivocally say that Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso's Aso Rock visit few days ago was a meeting on how to split northern votes. Moreso, this is the man Tinubu is handing over to IF he wins the 2027 elections.

The federal government will sponsor all campaigns by NNPP come 2027.

With Buhari’s passing, Kwankwaso now has probably over 2 million supporters, more than Tinubu’s supporters.

Kwankwaso is now 3rd place, Tinubu is 4th place. El Rufai was right, Tinubu will be lucky to get 3rd place

The South needs to unite and stand against the mentality of Northern dominance. Tinubu has two more years to win over the Eastern Region if he hopes to restore pride in the South. The core alliance between the North and Southwest has ended with Buhari's passing.

He knows APC will be booted out of power 2027 that's why he did not accept whatever they promised him in Aso Rock. They sacrificed Ganduje for him but still he knows Tinubu will be heading to Iragbiji soon. Pride no wan gree this one to join ADC because he doesnt want to be running mate but i know he will finally bring this crowd to the table of ADC for negotiations. Na only kano he can win. I said it that Tinubu would have never made Kwankwaso vice. Most president don’t want a vice with a presidential ambition, it’s fresh in memory what Atiku did to Obj. Even Atiku would not make Obi vice, and if he does Obi won’t last two years.

Even governors start having issues once their deputies start eyeing the governors office. The best scenario for him if he joins APC would be that Tinubu stays neutral in 2031 and the northerners can slug it out to emerge presidential candidate. If he wins, his chances of emerging president increases.
