My friend rented a mini-flat and all she put was mattress on the floor. She had those small clothe wardrobe we used in secondary school and plastic baskets for her clothes. Then a tiny ceiling fan. It was my first time seeing a ceiling fan that tiny. Her sitting room was empty and filled with nonsense load. I entered her flat and I was disappointed. I asked why she is living like this and she said "Here na camp. When I marry I go enjoy".

How do you convince a man you are good for enjoyment when you have suffered all your life? Love yourself and let the man know how you love to be loved. Funny she was always giving her fake suitors gift and money, but found it hard to spend on herself.

Na me carry her to Thermocool office at Dopemu to buy fridge and AC. Introduced her to my furniture maker. Paid for her driving school. Taught her parallel parking. Introduced her to the late Gazz to overhaul her car. We even bought a big gen from him and she uses it till date. I told her "eat your money. Put on AC make e dey cool your head, see as your house hottttt. When husband come, una go discuss the way forward". Everything isn't about man and what they care about. You are not on earth for that.

Same way one of our contractors bought a SUV from a contract she won, she went and packed the car in her elders brother compound saying she would drive it when has gotten married to avoid loosing her fiancee because people will discourage the guy if they see her driving such a car, the same people that knows she a bad hustler in our field.

The day she told me I just shake my head and said no female in my family lineage can be an idiot like her.

Funny enough 2 two years later they still broke up lol.

Certainly not in southern Nigeria and definitely not a tier-two city in that state.

Why are we always at the sacrificing end when it comes to prioritizing men over our growth but the men wouldn't think twice when choosing us over their growth.

Wot really makes me sad in that story is childlessness in their union.I feel so sad as if I knew them in person.

Then concerning if it's abomination for a single lady to acquire those luxury for herself and live very comfortably.The answer is no, it's not abomination.
But just that our African society is wired very differently from what it's obtainable in some other climes.
Though it looks and sounds so abnormal even to me,but what the woman was saying is the reality in our society and I don't think it's gonna change anytime soon no matter the level of educational attachments by both men and women in society.
Such weird way of thinking about a well-to-do single lady will still persist and it's almost becoming cultural.

The reality of the Afican society which isn't progressive shouldn't be accepted and then become a culture.

It's our duty to shift the culture to an acceptable one that helps the women dream big and not have limitations.

As regards my cousin whom you said it's fine for her to be a teacher bla, bla.....She graduated from a private university with a science degree and her brothers were working in an IOC, Union Bank, Zenith Bank and the immediate elder a manufacturing coy and the mum retired from an IOC....please tell me as a parent if you'll be fulfilled......she stopped receiving visitors, family.....the story get as e be.

Well, to me all your assertion doesn't matter at all, we just all need to be prayerful in all situation. I had a small sport car, lived in a flat, earn good salary form my place of work and still got married to my prince charming who was and is still proud of the woman he married. Let's pray for grace.

She conveniently ignores the many men who want strong, independent women; men who encourage their partners to grow. Instead, she centers her argument around the kind of men who feel threatened by a woman's success.

Grasses are for goats. No matter how hungry a lion is, you'll never find him eating grass. And have you ever seen a lioness settle for a goat just because there's no lion around?

Not all women are willing to downgrade just to get married. Let's even be honest; how many responsible men are out there looking to marry someone that looks like a burden?

A truly responsible man isn't intimidated by a successful woman.
And no reasonable woman is out there looking to marry an insecure man.

What's the point of marriage if all it brings is heartbreak, setbacks, and shattered dreams?

If that's what marriage is supposed to be, then honestly... I'll pass because I'd rather be single and at peace.

Because the truth is; a miserable marriage doesn't just drain your joy.
It erodes your entire sense of self.
Even your children may suffer the ripple effects of that dysfunction.

While some couples are out here building empires together,
Some man; lost in his own insecurity; is too busy playing power games at home.
To him, his wife is his only competition.
Every step she takes forward rattles his ego, suffocates his peace, and sparks his need to control.

With the mindset she's promoting, I just hope she doesn't end up with a man who becomes a hindrance to her peace and progress.

Women who value peace and progress don't follow such ridiculous advice.
Relationships where one partner has to shrink to fit the other's delusion always end in pain, resentment, and wasted potential.

Let's not forget; there are families where the woman is the main financial provider, and you'd never know it.
Why? Because it's built on mutual understand ing.
She doesn't use it to belittle him.
He doesn't see it as a threat.
They both understand each other. That's what healthy relationship really looks like.
