President Bola Tinubu on Saturday night personally reached out via video call to the Super Falcons to congratulate them on their thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) held in Rabat, News360 Nigeria reports.

News360 Nigeria had earlier reported that Nigeria’s women, after trailing 2-0 at halftime, bounced back in dramatic fashion to secure their record-extending 10th continental title.

Goals from Esther Okoronkwo (penalty), Folashade Ijamilusi, and a late strike by Jennifer Echegini sealed the win, underlining the Super Falcons’ dominance in African women’s football.

The Moroccan side had taken an early lead with first-half goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy, but Nigeria showed their trademark resilience and determination to turn the game around in the second half.

Moments after the match, President Tinubu, visibly elated, engaged the players via a live video call.

He praised their courage, discipline, and unity, describing them as true ambassadors of Nigeria.

In a social media post earlier, Tinubu also hailed their fighting spirit, saying: “They chose to accept this mission. They understood the assignment. Our Superior Super Falcons delivered in true Nigerian fashion. Never say Never. They went. They saw. They have conquered again! 10-time champions of Africa. #MissionX: COMPLETE!”

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also released a statement celebrating the Falcons’ success.

“I celebrate you, our beautiful and lovely Super Falcons, for the landmark victory of your 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations championship,” she said.

Describing the 3-2 victory as a reflection of the team’s hard work, consistency, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit, the First Lady added, “You have once again lifted the pride of our dear nation, Nigeria, and cemented your place as Queens of African football.”

She concluded by saying, “On behalf of Nigerian women and the entire nation, I thank you for making us proud. You have written your names in gold and inspired millions across the continent.”
