missidy:Since the time slots for 2026 dates show, your calendar seems okay. Probably someone already picked the date when you clicked the 2025 dates, hence the no time slots. However, to completely book an appointment, you need to click on a date, choose a time slot and then book. To be on the safe side, you may want to try this out with a 2026 date if you have enough reschedule options to see if your calendar is fully functional. |

PrettyJossy:You’ll need to provide me with a bit more information so I can give you specific guidance, but I’ll try to answer based on what you’ve shared. First, are you registered with the MLSCN as an associate? If yes, I would strongly recommend that you write the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) exam. This certification is highly recognized and will significantly boost your chances of job hunting as an MLS in the U.S. To qualify for an H-1B work visa, you’ll also need to meet additional requirements such as IELTS and a VisaScreen certificate. While it may seem challenging, it is quite achievable with proper planning. Regarding the PhD route: When did you graduate? When last did you engage in any meaningful research? The field of Biomedical Sciences is very research-driven and funding is often tied to your ability to demonstrate research potential. I would advise you to: Volunteer or work as a research assistant. Get involved in projects that lead to publications. Attend scientific conferences and network. By doing this, you will build a competitive profile for securing a fully funded graduate or PhD offer. Note: 90% of Biomedical Sciences programs in the U.S. do not require the GRE anymore, so focus your energy on building strong research experience, getting a good letter of recommendation, and a good statement of purpose (SOP). |

Teniolasmart:So sorry about this. I feel you talked a bit too much. Offering a document you were not asked for would also make you look desperate. Your cousin was in the US and back in Nigeria. There was no need to mention him at all. You overshared information about your step dad. That also made you look desperate. Try again and work on the issues raised. Good luck! |

Good Day Nairalanders I recently received my updated i20 and did an update on the DS160. The feedback I got was that My Updated I20 should be in agreement with my DS160 form. Looking through my DS160 in comparison with the i20, I couldn't find any errors. Who can please suggest what I should do 2. I am suspecting my Answer to 'Who is Funding You':may be an issue. How best do I Answer this if I have a deficit of 30k....borne btw my mom (12k) and I (18k)? I couldn't see any place for Combination of fund sources in the form. I have tried to seek their help in pointing out the place of error, they didn't give answer to it |

Timshin:I believe some people get denied due to: Lack of confidence: VOs are adept at reading interpersonal cues and can sense when an applicant lacks confidence. A friend of mine who secured admission to Northern Arizona University in 2023 and had his visa approved emphasized the importance of confidence. He shared that even when he saw blue papers flying everywhere, which initially shook his CONFIDENCE, he managed to regain his composure and CONFIDENCE. Additionally, I think VOs can detect when an applicant is merely reciting memorized lines rather than speaking genuinely. Rote memorization can't replace authentic responses, and VOs are skilled at picking up on body language and inconsistencies. They can often discern whether a response is scripted or not. Poormanpikin:I have equally seen people fidget and stutter throughout the interview yet still get approved and some with all the confidence get denied.! Sincerely the US interview is just base on the mood and orientation of the VO and sometimes denial happens due to absolutely no fault of the applicant. They just wanna deny!!!! the country Nigeria failed us! |

To tell you the truth, I dont think the embassy is responding to emergency requests for now, so its best you just forget it. All you have to do now is to be on that portal as much as you can. I also submitted a request in the first week of july, and I havent gotten a message from them till now. However, out of frustration, I started my vigilante work on that portal on Monday and I was lucky to get an August date on Friday. Infact there were lots of available 2025 dates flashed back to back on Friday. So if you really need a date, start your vigilante work too. Trust me, they release 2025 dates, and they are still going to release more, but you will only get it if you keep your hands glued to that portal. aramide000: |

Administrative processing (AP) is more like trying to check whether or not you should be given the visa/visa approval. You don't have to do anything at this point rather you keep your fingers crossed. From my experience with about three of my clients, there is no timeframe for administrative processing as some stayed three weeks(minimum I am aware of/seen) while some two months. I know resumption is around the corner but just sit tight. However once a request is made for you to submit your passport, then know that you will get it visa stamped in a few days. Poormanpikin:■■ You and @SisterTope have given some fantastic visa interviews outlook, but let me seive out some stones out of the beans. ■●▪︎ In support of your view, yes, lack of confidence or bravery from a visa applicant might solidify visa officers (especially new or trainees) doubt about an applicant's eligibility for a visa because fidgeting on the part of a visa applicant in the presence of a VO denotes hiding secrets, and the hiding secrets can be lies, misrepresentation, memorized lines etc. ■●▪︎ However , according to @SisterTope, I am also supporting her notion that fidgeting, fear, or stutter on the part of an applicant does not mean automatic denial because I knew a lot of visa applicants with these characteristics who eventually got their visas. WHY ? They were interviewed by seasoned or well-experienced visa officers, and those officers overlooked their negative body languages because they (the visa applicants) were genuinely qualified based on the VO's psychological assessment of their visa applications. ■●▪︎ @Poormanpikin, you also are very right that all VOs are trained to detect when an applicant is merely reciting a scripted line rather than speaking genuinely, and this kind of practice will also affect the most qualified applicants when facing a trainee or inexperienced officer. ■●▪︎ Finally, I disagree with @SisterTope that the U.S. visa interview is based on the mood and orientation of the visa officers. I also disagree that visa denials sometimes happen absolutely without a fault from the visa applicants. Visa officers have superior officers who monitor , caution, and warn them of any obvious or deliberate judgement mistakes and may report such officer officially if the situation persist. U.S. embassy operates Equal (visa) Opportunity for All, and that is why they are still rolling out visa lottery. Note: The U.S. embassy in any location can not give out visas to all qualified visa applicants at the same time in any given day. That is why your tiny mistake or not following instructions might screen you out of a visa list. Anyone who thinks that all Nigerians should have a U.S. visa at the same time or at a go or at any wishing time is definitely having the illusion of Nigeria becoming the 51st State of America. 👍 |

mikytan2019:Good Day Nairalanders I recently received my updated i20 and did an update on the DS160. The feedback I got was that My Updated I20 should be in agreement with my DS160 form. Looking through my DS160 in comparison with the i20, I couldn't find any errors. ■ Go and reread the message. Perhaps you have misinterpreted or don't understand it. What they are telling you is that your new DS-160 confirmation number (AA00E...) must be aligned (reflected in) with your visa appointment letter. This can only be done when you have created a support ticket (from your AVITS profile ). I have tried to seek their help in pointing out the place of error, they didn't give answer to it ■ You should pick "Other ", in the option, and type mother and self . I personally dont advise applicants to go with a combination of funds if there are alternatives. When POF is complicated to verify or understand, a hasty or exhausted visa officer may deny your visa based on that purpose. A very lenient one might place you on 221g. ■●▪︎ Choosing mother , father, uncle, etc. as sponsors is not reasonable enough for mature, married, and professional applicants (except if those sponsors are very wealthy and well-known). Despite this, the embassy still thinks that there must be a reasonable attachment to the fundings you are getting aside of family relations. ■●▪︎ Most Americans usually desire early freedom even before their maturity age, and by age 22 (my personal observations not official), many of them are (kind of) financially independent regardless of their family wealth. Although African culture is totally different but 75% of visa officers will still "little smile" at you if you tell them that your mother is your sponsor (at age 35, married with kids and working with a reputable organization). 👍 |

Meel:Thanks so much for your response. Yes, am registered with MLSCN and have been practicing as a MLS. I have written IELTS with band 7(will be expiring this September), one of the reasons am bothered. I have also done WES evaluation for my first degree which is Biochemistry, even thinking of evaluating for the Medical laboratory science but everything na money. As the suggested Ascpi exam, have considered it but when I read of the likely amount involved with the visascreen and all that,I became discouraged again. However,I will get to it again and see how it goes. Nothing good comes easy. For the research works that may likely be published, can you pls suggest or direct me on how to go about it. I will also adhere to your advise of attending scientific conferences. Please am open to further directions and follow up. Thanks so much |

Hello people, please I need advice. I intend to apply for an Ivy League mba in the USA. It’s very expensive but I intend to take loan of day $100k which is very high. How do I defend this given that I would be expected to return to Nigeria after schooling. Which I obviously won’t as my aim is to stay back. Ivy League MBA guarantees a really good job at least 90% of the time in the USA. I see people go for these Ivy League programs, how do they scale through to get student visa. I will appreciate any help please. Thank you |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Efetobore1980(m): 8:31am On Jul 28, 2025 |
SimpleGuy001:■■ I like your honesty, but if your intention is to not repay the loan, then you are only asking people to teach you how to lie. Mind you, you can not survive with a huge loan in america (while living illegally) because no company or organization has promised you a desired job after graduation. ■●▪︎ However, you can defend a loan repayment with a soon to be riped Certificate of Deposit (CD). You can defend a loan repayment with an Employment (agreement) Bond. You can also defend a loan repayment with a property deed, etc. ■●▪︎ Regarding Ivy league. MIT, Havard, and Stanford Universities are in top-5, and securing admissions into any or all of them (even simultaneously) will only give you an educational accolade, but it can never guarantee your F1 visa. F1 VISA success is not automatic no matter how rated your school is, and it does not respect anything other than its rules and policies. ■●▪︎ Maintain your honesty on the day of your f1 visa interview by telling the visa officer your intention to stay back in america. Ironically, your truth and honesty might work for you, but you MUST satisfy all f1 visa requirements. 👍 |

Efetobore1980:I think you misconstrued what I meant. Anybody who knows about Ivy League MBA knows you are more like a hot cake after grad. Those schools have employed reports with as much as 90% getting jobs with Fortune 500 companies within 6 months after graduating. Now my question is, I want to stay in the USA and get a job and then repay the loan. That’s even the main reason why prodigy and mpower finance MBA grads cause of the high value jobs that comes with it. From Wht I understand, visa officers want you back to naija after your studies but I want to stay back. Since obviously, I can’t sell a story that I will come back to Nigeria with close to $60-100k in debt. There’s isn’t any plausible story to tell them how I am gonna repay that. I’m 25, earn only 500k monthly. No way I can repay that. This is why I am asking for advice. I hope I have provided more context now. I will appreciate those who have done this before Note: Do you mean they grant visas to people who tell them they intend to stay back? I don’t think so, there’s like a 99% chance you are not getting the visa with that. |

This has been going on for days. Also, it is not network problem being that I experience it early hours of the morning too. I dont know what could be wrong? Or If i am doing the right thing? Also, I have refreshed the page severally and it is still the same thing. Any help rendered on how best to handle this will be appreciated. Thank you. |

| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by dalobaba: 10:48am On Jul 28, 2025 |
Most likely your network! The booking calendar will likely show you July,2025 before it switches to the available dates depending on how fast your internet is. Most people often mistake that for availability. If it’s showing July 2025 and you can’t click, then your network is slow. And yes, July isn’t available on the portal. Ewachukwu: |
| Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 18 by Efetobore1980(m): 11:19am On Jul 28, 2025 |
SimpleGuy001:●●▪︎ No Nigerian or African will come out here to tell us that he or she repaid $100k loan with weekly or monthly salary in America without taking years Or without using another offsetting means eg selling properties, etc. ■● On the issue of visa. I know few people who have told the visa officers that they intend to pursue Msc and phd after Bsc graduation and secure residency in america and they got their visas. That is called honesty. I can bodly write it here that, that is the intention (staying back) of 45% of f1 and b1/b2 visa applicants. ●▪︎▪︎ A typical American boy will be at ease to tell a police man that he just stole a bottle of wine in a supermarket, but an African boy would need rigorous drilling to say the truth. Visa officers does not believe your coming back to work stories. So being honest will give you your visas , all they need from you is to be qualified for the visa in the first instance. ■■ If your intention is to relocate via F1 visa dont take the loan. There are other avenues. Most loans needs repayment while you are still studying in america. |

Efetobore1980:Thanks a lot sir. I appreciate the insight and engagement. Truly eye opening, however, I learnt these prodigy/mpower loans can give as much as 10 years to repay . Dunno if telling the visa officer I intend to do this might help. What’s your thought on this? Regardless, I think getting as much funding from the school will help my case. Hopefully I can get a full ride scholarship or at least full tuition so I only have to take $50k for living expenses… I guess the lower the amount, the higher the chance they may grant it if I say I’m gonna repay that over 10 years. Given my profile, what the other avenues do you suggest? In case you have any other comments that will be helpful, I will appreciate it. Thanks a lot |
