"Can the Poor Truly Contest?"
They told us democracy means everyone has a right to lead.
But when you look deeper, the truth becomes shameful: not everyone can afford to lead.

In reality, leadership starts with money, not ideas.

Before you even reach the ballot:

You need millions to buy forms.

You need millions more to campaign.

You must ‘settle’ party executives to even be considered.

And after spending all that, you still might lose — not because you're not good enough, but because someone richer can buy more crowds.

So, how does the poor man contest?
Where does a passionate young mind get that kind of money?

He doesn’t.

Because the system is designed to filter him out without saying it directly.

They’ll say, “Anyone can contest,” but they’ve placed invisible chains called “money”, “connections”, and “influence.”

That’s not democracy. That’s injustice in disguise.

Until election participation is made accessible,
Until credibility matters more than capital,
Until the ballot is a place for ideas, not bank alerts,
Then we’re not really choosing our leaders —
We’re just selecting from the options money allows.

And that’s why things don’t change.

A poor man in Nigeria cannot be trusted, He will bring all his family members to come and chop, a typical example is Jonathan and Buhari.

GEJ ...said he doesn't have a shoe but before leaving office his wife was allegedly accused of owning a multi million naira hotel in Abuja

Buhari came with fake integrity... under him Emefiele built over 700 duplexes .

Poor men cannot be trusted including you

If you are not corrupt one way or the other, you can't win election in Nigeria, only few exceptions. Nigeria election is expensive. Winning some states gubernatorial election, you will be needing anything from N10bn. Whose legit business men would risk such amount on 50/50 results?

In Nigeria, I strongly doubt it. You need enough money in your bank to run and win an election in this country.

At the end of the day it all boils down to the "poor man" not knowing his right from his left.
"Someone richer can buy more crowds" who are the crowd? "Poor man".
So technically, the "poor man" is willing to sell his vote not use his vote for a fellow "poor man" to better the society, at the end of the day, the average Nigerian is wired to look for who to bIame for his faiIures, Nigerians bIame "system", meanwhile the fuel that's keeping the so called system running is the average Nigerian.
Leadership don't start with money, leadership is your ability to make positive changes, do what is right, walk your talk etc etc etc.
You don't need millions to buy tickets in all parties, the "poor man" don't need millions to start a political party where they can all cast their votes for a "poor man" that's ready to make a change.
The truth is that the average Nigerian is always looking for the next convenient thing then look for what and who to bIame.
There's no system designed to keep anyone out that was not designed and run by the "poor man", the "poor man" is his own probIem but always looking for who and what to bIame.
