I have bought some things safely from Nairalanders in the past. But just few days ago I wanted purple fleshed sweet potato vines from this lady [sefani(f)] here: https://www.nairaland.com/8387261/purple-fleshed-sweet-potato-vines.

Here is what happened. Another person contacted me via whatsapp, claiming to be the lady. It was a guy. I was too busy to noticed. I asked him few questions b4 paying. He did not deliver. He no longer pick my calls or reply my whatsapp. I lost N9k.

Please note, the lady, sefani(f), did not scam me. It was another person that impersonated her that scammed me.

To tackle scams, we're now introducing escrow service on agric section and here is how it works:

1. Before you buy, ask the seller to send you pictures or videos of the product. His face should appear and he should hold a paper with "Nairaland.com/agric" written on it.

2. Make sure it is what you want. Ask questions.

3. Payment: Instead of paying directly to the seller, you pay to agric moderator. Agric mod will now transfer the money to the seller after you receive the product satisfactorily.

4. Escrow charges: For now, this service attracts N1000 charge.

Man, that’s rough! 😣 Sorry you got scammed out of N9k by some impersonator pretending to be sefani(f). Good call clarifying she’s not the scammer, though. This new escrow service for the agric section is a game-changer! 🙌 Requiring pics or videos with the seller’s face and “Nairaland.com/agric” written out is smart, and paying through the mod for only N1k is a solid deal to avoid these scams. I’m definitely checking out that escrow thread next time I buy. Thanks for the heads-up, and hope you recover from this! Anyone else using the escrow yet? 🌱
