UCHE EKWUNIFE’S “PhD” IS FAKE!

The Deputy Governorship candidate of the APC, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife’s claim to a PhD degree has come under intense scrutiny with every available fact leaving more questions than answers.

From the documents she submitted to INEC under oath, the following are evident:


1. The purported Doctorate Degree certificate submitted to INEC is fake. Asides being undated, the certificate itself is blurred lending credence to an apparent lack of genuineness. More disturbing is what a quick Wikipedia/Google search showed about the so-called Atlantic International University;

“Atlantic International University is an unaccredited private for-profit distance learning university based in Honolulu, Hawaii that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees. It is considered a ‘degree mill’ as its degrees are NOT recognized or are illegal to use in several US states and other countries”.

A check with the National Universities Commission (NUC) further shows that the same University is NOT recognized in Nigeria.

3. The fact that the awarding institution (Atlantic International University) is neither accredited in the United States of America nor recognized by the NUC in Nigeria shows that it is one of those FAKE online institutions that collect money from people and issue them bogus certificates.

4. ⁠Mrs Ekwunife, who by her own submission to INEC, did not show evidence of a first degree, and Masters degree, yet goes about attaching a fake PhD to her list of acquired qualifications points to a more existential problem that every serious minded Society must address. If Ekwunife has a first degree or diploma why did she not submit same to INEC?

5. ⁠If anyone desires a PhD, they should seek same from a university RECOGNIZED by the NUC. If not, the PhD is INVALID in Nigeria and thus useless — FAKE! Since no institution in Nigeria can recognize it. It follows therefore that such a certificate can’t be presented for anything serious, and it cannot be submitted in Nigeria for official use!

5. ⁠If Mrs Ekwunife claims she has a PhD, what courses did she take and the exams? What’s the title of her PhD thesis? Is there a copy of the thesis available? Who’s the supervisor and his/her qualifications? Etc

6. ⁠Apart from the First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) and the SSCE, there is no evidence of any other certificate obtained from any accredited higher institution either for First Degree or Masters, yet she attached an NYSC Discharge certificate to the affidavit she submitted to INEC. This riases more questions that Mrs Ekwunife may NOT also have a genuine degree or diploma certificate from any recognized higher institution anywhere in Nigeria or the world.

7. ⁠INEC as an institution established by Law should not be seen to be accepting certificates from FAKE and unaccredited institutions — foreign or local. Else, they can be seen as supporting academic fraud. Also, anyone who presents certificates, either forged or from FAKE institutions should not be recognized by any legal entity.


This trend by some persons who should be role models to younger generations is quite derailing. All who engage in this should be called to question if the aim is to build a decent Society.

Regardless of the authenticity of this report, one fact remains undisputed: Uche Ekwunife was Branch Manager of Standard Trust Bank, Awka branch. It's worth noting that she couldn't have held this position without being a graduate, which lends credibility to her educational background.

If the woman can submit her WAEC certificate, I believe she would be good for the position.

The present crop of politicians running our country are a total disaster. If a graduate needs a job in any organization in Nigeria today, he would be asked for a minimum of 2:1. When it comes to governance, we decide to bring in low IQ individuals.

Nigeria can never move forward until the minimum requirements for the presidential position is a 2:1 in addition to other requirements.

To those waiting to criticize my position, I put it to you that it is the height of criminality to allow an individual with only O-level or fake certificates to run our nation...

These craze for 'Doctoral' certificates among Nigerian politicians is both annoying and shocking.

Must you answer 'Doctor'? Is 'Honorable', 'Senator' no longer enough?

The ministry of education and NUC must do something about this.

Place an embargo on the award of 'Honorary Doctorates' to politicians and politically exposed people. They are commonizing and bastardizing that enviable title.

If they want the Doctorate, let them go to back to school, read, do thorough and rigorous medical and scientific research work, and then earn the title like some of us did. We don't have two heads.

The title should not be for sale. It should be painstakingly earned.

Then let her present her NCE, OND, B.Sc or HND which are more than enough qualification for vying for elections. WAEC, and NECO still remains the benchmark.
