Within a period of 10 years, APC completely destroyed this country and the little bragging right she had

A once the biggest economy in Africa, one of the fastest growing is now drowning in debts, economic downturn, hardship, hunger and starvation, insecurity etc.

And the presidency dare say that Nigerians were living fake life then?
10 years down the drain.

Worse is the minions and soulless ones egging him on

Everything about Lagos port is rent seeking. They focus more on generating revenue than the multiplier effect of having a busy port. A lot of renew is actually lost in the chain as businesses route their shipments to other neighboring countries.

The major reason the impoter prefer Benin and Togo is more of their less tariffs and this could be a deliberate policy by the government of the two countries to generate revenue because it remains the only source of revenue generation for them because they don't have any other major source of revenue like Nigeria.

believe everything on the media space at your own peril, the volume of cargo at the lekki deep seaport surpassed projections, other ports in the country has also witnessed increase in the volume of cargo in the last quarter.

To clear Camry 2013 from Lagos port is #3m but from Togo port it will cost about #500k. If you were a car dealership, which would you use?

The problem with you people is trying to politicized every issue and we may not get idea of what is happening,if you want to toe this line then PDP should be blamed for all what you mentioned here. Nigeria experience highest oil boom during 16 years of PDP rule what did they do with it, they misappropriated and looted the gains. Diziane and Dasuki just to mention few comes to mind. At the end of the day Jonathan government have to resulted to borrowing money to pay workers salary at the twilight of his regime

We are saying the same thing they can't afford to charge high tariffs because first they have small market, secondly those tariffs remains their major revenue generation they couldn't compete with Nigeria but if you look at Nigeria market it is far bigger than both countries put together so we have more bagganing power than them just like America through Trump is doing right now adjusting upward tariffs on all products coming to America because they have one of the largest market in the world right now.

When APC came to power any alarm that was reported will be debunked as fake news and nothing will be done. The consequences is what we are paying for

This is a great opportunity for Nigeria to boost her trade with China , Japan etc without the US or Russian interference. It's just a pity that any goods coming through the land boarders will be off the necks of the importer. Debts will crawl in . So Nigeria only needs to increase the land boarders tariffs and manage the routes well.

It’s all rent seeking. Just less than 2 years ago, import duty in Nigeria was not these high and the economy was better. What then changed to warrant the cut throat charges we now have with not much to show for it in terms of economic growth.

All Togolese I knew in my village are no more in the country.
Nigeria is doomed!!!!
They say; their country is fairing better than Nigeria now, no job, the only people that have money now to employ their services are politicians.
They can't even cope with the competition because opportunities are few.
Where are we headed to, Nigeria!

Practicality, not theory this is business in the real world, if you dont get your act right you will loose relevance.
Money follows value not hype.

Its high time the FG decentralize the port in Lagos, allow Ports in other regions to develop, improve processes eliminate bottlenecks and corruption.

Our customs are too corrupt and live in a pipe dream, see tiny Togo that enjoys light from us overtaking us.

Goods cleared in their ports end up in Nigeria but not the revenues, this is what happens when you have kleptocrats who see loans as easy money and refuse to do anything to help the economy grow.

Cotonou has been doing that not Togo, the excise duties and other clearing fees charged in Nigeria are too high for any meaningful business person to cope with, only those who get govt waivers import through Apapa.

As long as the federal government keeps on monopolizing the ports in Calabar, Warri, Port Harcourt, Nigeria will not grow.

Lagos has enjoyed port monopoly for decades and it's time it is stopped.

Lagos is not the only city sitting by the Atlantic in Nigeria.

Re: U.S, Russia Ditch Nigerian Ports, Seek Access To Togo Port by 2mch(m): 8:12pm On Jul 29, 2025
The market target is Nigeria. Either Nigeria match Togo charges, or imports from Togo get extra charges at Nigeria border or Togo matches Nigeria port charges. All charges need to be streamlined. I think FG already did that, it needs to be enforced and people who have no business being in the ports, escorted out. Only verified employees and officials.
