Talk to him often, even if he doesn’t reply, use short, simple sentences. Give him choices (e.g., “Juice or water?”) to encourage speaking. Don’t pressure him, rather create a calm, loving space. Sing songs, read picture books daily, and use gestures. Repeat his words correctly without correcting harshly. Reduce screen time, face-to-face talk helps more. Celebrate small wins and be very patient. If possible, work with a speech therapist early. ConcernedDad: |

ConcernedDad:I think others have said it here, you are the best teacher. It's a privilege to have a dad and you sir should just give him all the confidence he needs in this world. Someone posted a Steve Harvey video there and if you watched it, you would've seen the stammerer only needed someone to trust in them for them not to stammer. Good luck in your parenting 🙏 |

ConcernedDad:Adaptive observation... Ur son knows how you to talk n he's trying to sound like you.... You shd tell him to speak well and he shouldn't be afraid of talking to u.. Let him know stammering isn't good... U should even tell him how it hindered, maybe he will adjust |

ConcernedDad:I don't think it a problem as long as he is able to communicate orally effectively. Just keep encouraging him to excell academically and the sky is his spring board |

I was the best actor and newscaster in primary school but suddenly started stammering in high school. I have more or less outgrown it now. Moses was a stammerer, MKO Abiola was a stammerer |

ConcernedDad:First off, it’s not unusual for kids around 3 to 5 years old to go through phases of stammering, especially when they're excited, nervous, or trying to express more than they can clearly say. The fact that he doesn’t stammer with other kids might suggest it’s more about pressure or emotions than a permanent speech issue. It’s possible that he feels more nervous or eager to impress when speaking with you or his mom, especially if he senses high expectations. Try to keep conversations with him calm and slow paced give him time to finish his thoughts without jumping in or correcting him mid-sentence. Also, avoid showing any visible worry when he stammers, because kids can pick up on that energy fast. As for heredity, stammering can run in families, but environment and emotional dynamics also play a huge role. The good news is that early intervention works. I’d recommend seeing a speech therapist many specialize in childhood speech patterns and can help guide both your son and the family in the right direction. With patience, support, and maybe a little professional help, your son can grow out of it and gain strong communication skills. You're doing the right thing by acting early. 💯 |
