Drhay:well, whether you pay for first year or not, there are a lot of scholarships up for grabs within the university system. Tuition is calculated on a yearly basis for most cases. Best of luck in your endeavours |

1. There are some PhD's that have funding, you will need to check the website or mail the school. 2. Range of tuition fees for PhD differs from school to school, you will need to confirm the tuition on the schools website. 3. If there is funding, you will still need to show proof of funds for the duration of the program - except it is a total scholarship that covers everything, there are always terms and conditions. 1. I always say check the New Zealand immigration website, I have never seen a comprehensive website like theirs, it has the official information you are looking for, not personal opinions like mine that might no longer be valid at the current time. 2. Contact PhD supervisor/supervisors especially in your preferred PhD field, research on their work and see how it aligns with your proposed PhD thesis and to include that information in your email when contacting them. When they have accepted your proposal, contact the school for their admission processes, each school has their tuition fees and scholarships, if you qualify. 3. Work with a PAID LICENSED immigration adviser in New Zealand especially as you are a Nigerian (I am assuming), agents like IDP work only with the principal applicant. Cheers! kinkyhead: |

Good day everyone. Please how do I move to New Zealand with my family as a teacher. I have a BSc, PGDE, TRCN and many years experience teaching in a government school. Your assistance and direction will be highly appreciated. Thanks and God bless. |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 4:35pm On Jul 15, 2025 |
1. A job offer from a NZ Company (hard but not impossible). 2. As a masters student whose spouse has a partner of a student work visa and whose kids have a dependent of a worker visa. 3. Based on your profile, you can’t qualify for PhD as you don’t have a masters, so I will skip that one. 4. The teaching profession is hot cake in NZ, I highly recommend you get in touch and use a PAID LICENSED immigration adviser, it will be worth it. Giftyy: |

If I may add, the poster will need accreditation from the NZ teaching certification body as the profession is regulated. CalabarSamurai: |

ab4m:This publication requirement, must it be in the domain of where you want to pursue studies. Like you want to pursue a phd in construction (masters in construction) but a publication in AI application in another industry...does this typically work? |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Peaceful123(m): 7:48pm On Jul 16, 2025 |
FrostyButter:Having a publication in your area of expertise is a plus but having a publication in general count. Besides, some candidates don’t have publication and they still got admission. |

Good day all, I have a PhD offer from University of Auckland with December start date and would like to submit my visa application by next month, August. I intend going with my dependents (spouse and 3 children - family of 5). Please I need assistance with knowing how to start. (I was recently refused a Canadian study visa for an MSc) Please assist 🙏 |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Winnyluv(f): 10:24am On Jul 22, 2025 |
CalabarSamurai:I already have a PhD offer from University of Auckland with December start date. Please I need guidance on how to apply for visa for myself and my family. I was denied Canadian study visa this month. |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Peaceful123(m): 10:41am On Jul 22, 2025 |
Winnyluv:Congratulations on your admission. Try to explore the NZ immigration website, it is very detailed. I will advice you digest the content on the website and ask questions base on aspect that is not clear to you. The website is very detailed |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Winnyluv(f): 11:15am On Jul 22, 2025 |
Peaceful123:Do you suggest I apply alone first before bringing my dependents? (We applied as a family for Canada and was denied) |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 12:22pm On Jul 22, 2025 |
1. Please don't hide the Canadian visa refusal when filling the online form, just state it and state why you were refused as mentioned in the letter. Also mention all visa refusals and the reasons given. 2. If December is your start date, then you should submit an application in September, to give them enough time to work on your APPLICATION. 3. Your Proof of Funds must be six months in one bank account i.e. March to September or minimum of 3 months i.e. June to September, September being when you should submit your application. 4. Leave your family in Nigeria. - home tie 5. Get a study leave letter and/or a letter of introduction from your place of work - home tie 6. Go through this section, there are successful phd students, follow their list of documents they submitted etc. 7. Your Cover letter/ SoP will make or mar you, demonstrate your knowledge of your proposed PhD, your financial plans, travel history, current work and work experience and how the PhD will help you IN NIGERIA. 8. Ask your school if they have agents or their own paid licensed adviser especially since Nigeria's approval rate is 30%, it would really help, if they don't, then work with IDP (free but they only focus on the primary applicant) or get a Paid Licensed Adviser based in New Zealand. ALL THE BEST !!!! Winnyluv: |

Winnyluv:You can apply together. I can’t talk from the place of experience (Still sourcing for supervisor and admission), I can only talk from the perspective of what I learned here. You can follow this process below CalabarSamurai: |

Good morning everyone. Please i will want to know if I stand a chance for a PhD program in New Zealand with a Bachelor’s CGPA of 3.06/5 and Masters 4.55/5 (Distinction). I have 3 coauthored publication as well. |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Peaceful123(m): 7:08am On Jul 30, 2025 |
adebayoolatunji:If your masters has a research component in it, yes. |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 8:44am On Jul 30, 2025 |
I see no reason why you don't stand a chance, the masters is quite strong, please apply. adebayoolatunji: |

Winnyluv:Its best you use a paid licensed lawyer in New Zealand. Someone I know had 3 visa refusals from Australia and 1 from NZ (when they did a self application). They got it on the 5th trial using an immigration lawyer. Also, apply for yourself first and after getting the visa, you can then apply for your family. |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by Peaceful123(m): 9:20pm On Aug 01, 2025 |
AussieJoan:Is it the cost of visa fee for family that make you suggest she should apply for herself first before her family ? Or is there any other reason for that? |
| Re: General New Zealand Student Enquires by CalabarSamurai(m): 9:51pm On Aug 01, 2025 |
Honestly speaking if i knew from the beginning, i would have started with a PAID LICENSED immigration adviser, because this thing is pay to play - they would look at your profile and tell you straight-up the real deal, but that's after paying the initial fees. But IDP is still good though I.M.H.O. I ended working with the school's LIA because of our low approval rate in Naija. ![]() |
