5 Common Lies Nigerians Told Themselves After Voting In 2023 by eyesoflagos(op): 8:59am On Jul 30, 2025
It’s 2025, and Nigeria is still facing skyrocketing food prices, fuel headaches, and unending electricity wahala. But let’s rewind to 2023 — remember the election promises? The midnight rants? The bold claims of “renewed hope”?

Now, reality has slapped many voters like NEPA bringing estimated bill with no light. Here are 5 hilarious but painful lies Nigerians told themselves after voting in 2023 — if you told yourself even one, don’t worry, we’re not judging (maybe just a little). Eyes Of Lagos reports,

🧠 1. “This One No Be Like The Others, He Go Shock Everybody!”

After decades of recycled politicians, many believed the 2023 president would finally “change the game.” Some even said he was “the Jagaban of reform.

” But fast-forward to 2025 and the only thing shocking is the price of rice (₦87,000 per bag? Omo!)

🤑 2. “Dollar Go Drop, Fuel Go Balance

This lie deserves its own national anthem. Nigerians expected the dollar to miraculously fall to ₦400 and fuel to return to ₦180 per litre. Instead, fuel subsidy was removed, and Nigeria entered Hardship 2.0. Black market dollar rate? Let’s not even go there.

🍚 3. “Food Go Cheap Once Him Enter

They said: “Once he’s sworn in, local farmers go smile. Tomatoes go flood market. Everything go cheap!”

Reality: ₦3,500 for a small basket of pepper. Bread now starts from ₦800. Even pure water is trying to apply for luxury status.

📱 4. “Him Go Fix Internet, Power, Roads Sharp Sharp”

Every campaign included promises to fix light, network, and roads. Two years later? PHCN still doing hide and seek, 5G data burning faster than suya, and roads? Lagos potholes now have Instagram pages.

💔 5. “E Better Make We Vote Our Own”

Ethnic bias ran wild in 2023. “Vote Yoruba! Vote Igbo! Vote Hausa!” — but suffering no dey check tribe. Now everyone is collecting national shege together, united in pain and prayer.
💬 X Reactions:

@BigJollof: “If lies were naira, Nigerians would be billionaires by now 😭”

@SabiTruth247: “We voted suffering with our full chest. No cap.”

@LagosLandlord: “Me wey say I go start business under new government, na me dey owe POS girl now.”

Africans can't go forward if they keep playing the game of tribalism and religion while choosing their leaders.

Sane Nigerians rejected the mandate grabber at the polls.
We all knew he had nothing to offer.

I say this again, we should pass a legislation banning illiterates from voting during elections.

We can't have people who cannot see beyond their noses enthroning daft leaders for us every four years.

Some people who voted Tinubu based on tribal sentiments are still telling themselves more lies either because of envy/hate for Igbos or they don’t like to admit being wrong

One thing we should all know is that BAT is only good at playing politics. Infact He ought to write a book for all to read and study on how to play politics in Nigeria. Apart from that, he does not know much about governance.

So I am surprised how he can fix the nation. Everything to him is politics. lolz

Only the lazy & the propagandists complain more of hardship in this Tinubu regime. If you work, you would get your pay & you go chop. There are many people who couldn't afford those things when the prices were cheaper, but would do now without sweat. There's that ease, maybe little, that most homes now feel regardless of the prices of goods - thanks to Tinubu & his cabinet. Unlike before, I hardly see beggars-in-suit now.

Take it or leave it or you feed it to those who are interested in politics. But you can't deceive yourself.

Based on his Agbado ewa garri statement during APC congress and he had no economic policy from beginning shows you the size of brain of the people that supported him

shocked

After building Ragos,
cement, sand, reinforcement and other building materials come finish.

We shouldn't blame the jagaban, the architect and builder of Ragos.

Let's give him like 13 more years to get building materials, so as to start building Nigeria.

grin grin grin

We didn’t tell ourselves any lies.

We believed the propaganda lies that ebilokan told us then, just as we believed the lies that he told us in 2015 when he used an incompetent and expired northerner Buhari to replace his fellow southerner Jonathan as a one term president.

World Bank offers Nigeria forex rate advice, as Tinubu eyes N200/Dollar rate

April 23, 2023

The President-elect said he would work with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to *bring down the exchange rate to N200 in his first term.*

“My administration will collaborate with the Central Bank to harmonize the fiscal and monetary policy to achieve immediate stabilization of the value of the naira against the US dollars and other currencies and in the short term, strengthen the naira by boosting the supply of foreign currency and moderating demand.

“The short-term goal is to achieve a naira/dollar rate of 300 naira/US$ and gradually achieve a less than 200 naira rate over the next four years, Tinubu stated.
