The recent case of a teenage girl found raped and abandoned in Anambra State, claiming she lives in Lagos but with no family or friend searching for her, is a loud warning. It tells us that many children are slipping through the cracks—unnoticed, unguided, and unprotected.

The Cost of Parental Negligence

Too many parents have traded presence for provision. They believe paying school fees, providing food, and buying gadgets is enough. But while children may smile with a full stomach and clean clothes, many are starving emotionally—longing for love, attention, discipline, and guidance.

In this emotional void, peer pressure, social media, fake friendships, and dangerous influences begin to take root. Many girls, especially, fall victim to manipulation because no one ever taught them what self-worth looks like. No one warned them about the dangers of seeking love and validation from the wrong sources.

Why the Girl Child Needs a Father Figure

The role of a father in a girl’s life cannot be overemphasized. A loving, present, and protective father teaches his daughter how she deserves to be treated. He sets the standard for what healthy love and respect look like. He provides emotional security that helps her resist negative influences.

What Must Be Done

Nigeria is not becoming, it is a crime scene. A really big one. To reduce crime, you have to eliminate hunger. To reduce criminality, you have to eradicate hunger and lack mindset. You see that part, it will take atleast 50 years of consistency to do so. SINGAPORE did it. But i doubt nigeria has the political will to follow such suit
