Gabon is officially part of Central Africa.

Cameroon too is often mistakenly classified by some uninformed people as a West African country but it's NOT part of West Africa's ECOWAS.

A country not being in the ECOWAS does not mean it's not geographically situated in West Africa. Cameroon is situated in west Africa, of which a part was originally in the former Eastern region of Nigeria.

The country made a political decision not to join ECOWAS on its formation. Not because of geography. She found it politically beneficial to be identified as a West central African nation.
