Hello everyone, kindly advise me on how to deffer my 2 years study permit with the immigration as I have gotten my visa but due to some unforseen family issues, I won't be able to travel now. Although I haven't deffered the admission with the school yet, but I know there won't be a problem with them as I have downloaded the form. I'm only concerned about the immigration and how to defer my visa while I hope to travel to Canada next year. Thank you |

For those in Canada already. How is the economy and living as an international student over there like? After paying my one year full tuition (one year program), and having the required living expenses of 21k CAD, will the part-time job of 20hrs be enough during my studies? Please I'm very curious and bothered to know this. Is it tough living in Canada as an international student and after wards? Are there nice paying jobs? |
| Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 23 by destinychildolu(m): 12:36pm On Aug 02, 2025 |
Amycanada:Congratulations for paying your full tuition and also for having 21k. If you live within budget, you might not spend more than 13k while you keep the remaining for part payment of your second programme. You should be able to get a job under 6 months |

Hello everyone, good evening! I'm looking to connect with fellow students currently studying at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Whether you're an undergrad or grad student, I'd love to network, share experiences, and maybe even collaborate on academic or campus-related opportunities. Feel free to reach out or drop a comment if you're at Concordia — let’s connect! |

Good day, I have a quick question regarding the visa process. If a student is awarded full funding by the school (covering tuition and living expenses), would they still be required to show personal bank statements or proof of funds when applying for a Canadian study permit? Is the list of currently eligible CIP codes applicable to master programs ? |

It will be good if you can also submit copies of documents signed in respect of the land sale transaction (deed of assignment, receipt) and a certificate of value that states the market value of the land prior to the sale. Itiswell2334: |

Hi everyone, I am applying for a 2-year college course at Nova Scotia Community College for Heavy Duty Maintenance and Repair. I have the first year's full school fee of about $18,000 CAD, $3,000 for other expenses, and $23,000 CAD for living expenses. Do I also need to have my second year's school fee or proof of it? If I get a job, will I be able to cover the remaining $16,000 for the second year? |

Yes, you can use it if they have Flywire. You need to confirm with your bank if the USD card will work ifeanyija: |

Hi, you can't defer your study permit; you can only defer your program. Some schools allow for just 1 deferment and your study permit is still valid.

|

It is advisable you have your complete year duration fee available; however, you can give a comprehensive explanation how you plan to fund your second year, and please don't tell them when you start working in Canada. Diyke4rich: |

I am grateful for your attention. My financial plan involves using $13,000 CAD for living expenses and saving $10,000 CAD for a partial tuition payment in my second year. Upon arrival, I aim to secure a job within six months, working 23 hours per week and full-time during holidays to save and settle the remaining balance. JMG12: |

Diyke4rich:You don't need to have your full second-year tuition fees upfront, but IRCC requires proof that you or your sponsor or you will be able to cover the second-year costs without relying on working in Canada. That’s why it's always advisable to show both your full tuition fees and at least $23,000 CAD in living expenses. As of 2025, the job market is quite tough—Nova Scotia currently has the 7th highest unemployment rate in Canada, and as a newcomer, it's even more challenging. https://ycharts.com/indicators/nova_scotia_unemployment_rate https://lmi.novascotia.ca/unemployment So please do not plan on working in Canada to pay your school fees. You might manage your living expenses (like rent, food, and bills), but school fees are a different story—and I don’t want you to struggle. Let’s look at the numbers: The minimum wage in Nova Scotia will be $16.50/hour starting October 1, 2025. During holidays (when you’re allowed to work full-time), the maximum you can earn is: $16.50 × 40 hours/week × 4 weeks = $2,640/month before tax After tax, that's about $2,400month But your monthly rent, food, and bills could easily reach $1,500 (and that’s being conservative). Keep in mind, this level of work is only possible during school breaks—usually a maximum of 4 months per year for international students. So you can’t rely on working in Canada to pay for tuition. The math just doesn’t support It's better to plan ahead financially and avoid unnecessary stress.
