ADC State Chairmen Reject David Mark, Atiku, Other Coalition Chiefs by amoreobansu(op): 9:18am On Aug 05, 2025
The Concerned State Chairmen of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, an umbrella body of state chairmen of the party, has rejected the new national leadership of the party led by a former Senate President, David Mark.

In a statement titled ‘Rejecting the Political Junta by Defending ADC and Nigeria’s Democracy Against Subversion’, signed by the Chairman, Amb. Elias Adokwu and the Publicity Secretary, Godwin Alaku, the chairmen described the recent takeover of the party by the opposition coalition as an “orchestrated political coup”.

DAILY POST reports that Mark was named the Interim National Chairman of the ADC after the opposition coalition adopted the party as its platform. A former governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola was named Interim National Secretary.

The development is aimed at positioning the ADC to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 election.

The opposition coalition wants to deny President Bola Tinubu a second term in office.

But the ADC state chairmen have condemned what they described as the hijack of the party by the coalition, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has already resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to join the ADC.

In the statement released on Tuesday, the chairmen said the emergence of Mark and others as the leaders of the ADC is a “blatant and reckless subversion” of the party’s constitution and Nigeria’s democratic norms.

They accused the coalition of attempting an unconstitutional hijack of the ADC through manipulation and backdoor dealings.

“We unequivocally condemn in the strongest terms this desperate power grab, which represents not only an aberration of democratic norms but also a grave assault on our collective political values as a nation,” the statement said.

The chairmen further noted that the move is not a realignment of political ideology – as stated by the coalition – but a “civilian junta” seeking control outside legal and democratic processes.

Rejecting the Mark-led leadership, they made reference to a warning – “If peaceful change is not possible, violent change is inevitable” – reportedly issued by one of the coalition’s leaders during the 2011 election, as evidence of the resurfacing of a dangerous mindset in the polity.

“It is only by the grace of God that our democracy survived then, and we must not allow such reckless adventurism to thrive now,” the statement warned.

According to the ADC state chairmen, the takeover is an “insult to all those who believe in and have labored for democratic governance in Nigeria”.

They said the coalition is planning to fracture the democratic process using “selfish ambition and extra-party inducements”.

They equally emphasised the ADC’s commitment to “democratic principles, the rule of law, ideological clarity, and peaceful political engagement”, rejecting any notion that the party is a platform for “political mercenaries or ideological impostors”.

The chairmen advised the coalition to “create their own party or look elsewhere”, declaring, “The ADC is not for sale, not for hijack, and certainly not a dumping ground for discredited power brokers.”

The statement challenged leaders of the coalition to disclose their contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, questioning their “electoral value or ideological clarity”.

The Concerned State Chairmen called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to resist recognising any illegal change of leadership in the party. They also urged Nigerians and members of the civil society to monitor and resist this “creeping authoritarianism” and demand that law enforcement agencies investigate unlawful attempts to disrupt political order.

We, the legitimate custodians of the ADC structure across all states of the federation, reject this illegitimate junta.

“We consider it our patriotic duty to defend the soul of the ADC and protect the sanctity of democratic structures in Nigeria,” the statement added.

The chairmen in the same vein dismissed what they described as baseless allegations by former ADC National Chairman Ralph Nwosu. According to them, Nwosu’s claims are a “desperate attempt to salvage his own political reputation”.

Even INEC Doesn't recognise the David Mark leadership.

Why are people confortable with moving into a party and kicking everyone to the side while they take charge. So those that have been there ensuring its survival are mad people or just pieces of furniture? David Mark and his co-travellers need to sit down with the chairmen and find a mid-point else the party went even field any candidate, coalition or otherwise

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

As much as you love Tinubu so much and don't want change of leadership...Please allow ADC to be. As a mod here you're not expected to meddle into politics. People will see you as the one pushing against anyone that wants this country to be better by removing APC. Oya ban me.

Mynd44, it's quite hilarious how you’re crying over the ADC coalition like it’s some abomination yet you're comfortably ignoring the chaos in APC, Tinubu's party that’s had four national chairmen in just two years. If that’s your definition of internal democracy, then we clearly don’t share the same standards.

You’re upset about new people coming into a party and taking charge? Welcome to Nigerian politics. But don’t pretend APC hasn’t done worse from imposed candidates to overnight leadership changes without consultation. Spare us the selective outrage.

And since you didn’t bring up the courts, let’s not forget that even the Supreme Court has made it clear: it has no jurisdiction over internal party affairs. Parties must resolve their issues internally. So yes, the ADC leadership including David Mark and all stakeholders must find common ground, but don’t act like this is some unique crisis when APC is the poster child for disorder.

If you’re going to critique ADC, apply the same energy to the mess Tinubu and the APC have bestowed upon this country

If you expect politicians to settle themselves, what do you expect from them in terms of governance huh

Do you expect them to simply steal your taxes like ebilokan must be stealing the $84 billion subsidy savings that has made petrol so expensive instead of the crash in price he promised 27 months ago?

Petrol should never cost more than N70 per litre, says APC

January 19, 2015

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described as mere tokenism the reduction of petrol price from N97 to N87 per litre, saying the petroleum product ordinarily should sell for N70.

On Sunday, the federal government announced the reduction of petrol price, citing the fall of global crude oil price.

But the APC through Lai Mohammed, its spokesman, on Monday accused the government of making a show out of deceit, saying “a 10.3 per cent slash in the price of petrol was a mere tokenism at a time the price of crude oil has crashed by about 60 per cent”.

It argued that the pump price of a litre of petrol should not be more than 70 Naira, alleging that at N87 per litre, the government was forcing Nigerians to subsidise the massive corruption in the oil sector by N17 for every litre of fuel.

Their time to hammer!!!

The same way the former LP state chairmen hammered in 2023 when Obi came on board.

The legacy chairmen of the ADC must be settled or else they would be used to cause problem and embarrassment to Atiku and Mark

INEC has already listed Nwosu as the authentic chairman of ADC.

Nigeria's politics can make you turn mad if you are not strong, mentally grin

This internal wrangling may continue till 2027 and INEC would come up with an authentic ADC leadership and candidates.

Keep on writing English to express your nonsense.
Democracy sweets where there are strong oppositions, and this usually forcing govt in power to deliver, wen they deliver, that's wen you, as citizen would enjoy the govt u are following blindly, though, if truly you like urself and ur unborn children.

I guess those who have wherewithal to face govt in power should be the onlookers in the hitherto, unknown party, while the light weighted members should be deciding for them.

Did you know, if ADC is existing 2 months ago?
