Nigeria Police Force @PoliceNG

PRESS RELEASE

POLICE WELFARE: IGP TO DECORATE PROMOTED NATIONAL AWARD RECIPIENTS

– As Police Service Commission Conveys Approval

The Nigeria Police Force is set to take a bold and historic step in the direction of motivation, meritocracy, and morale-boosting as the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, prepares to decorate select officers recently approved for promotion by the Police Service Commission (PSC) – officers whose conduct, courage, and character have stood out in service to the nation.

These are not just promotions. They are public endorsements of excellence. A national salute to officers who, despite the odds, chose the path of integrity, went the extra mile, and reminded us all what true service looks like.

Recall that in Press Release No. CZ:5300/FPRD/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.6/472 dated 25th July 2025, the Force publicly committed to recommending for accelerated promotion, any officer who had been named Police Officer of the Year or won in any of the Police award categories twice in two consecutive award years or received IGP recognition award twice in two consecutive years.

That commitment made transparently and intentionally was driven by the IGP’s deep belief that rewarding excellence is the cornerstone of institutional reform.

In line with that resolution from the Force Management Team meeting of 23rd June 2025, the names of qualifying officers were forwarded to the Police Service Commission and the Commission has now conveyed its approval.

Accordingly, the Inspector-General of Police will, on Tuesday, 5th August 2025 by 12 noon, at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Abuja, decorates the following officers:
•CSP Shaba Aliyu, Police Officer of the Year 2023, promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police with effect from 31st December 2023.
•SP Sentome Obi, Police Officer of the Year 2024, promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police with effect from 31st December 2024.

These officers are not alone. Also benefiting from this wave of accelerated promotions are those who have won awards twice within the last two award circles and several Staff Officers at the IGP Secretariat, who have received multiple commendation letters in the past two years for distinguished service.

To underscore the importance of this moment, the Inspector-General has directed the deployment of the police jet to convey ACP Aliyu Shaba, Police man of the year 2023 and CSP Sentome Obi, police man of the year 2024 to Abuja for their formal decoration by the IGP. In addition, the photographs of ACP Shaba and CSP Sentome Obi, who embody the highest ideals of courage and honesty, have been proudly displayed at the main entrance of Force Headquarters, as earlier directed by the IGP. Also directives have earlier been given to the effect that their pictures be displayed at the entrances of Zonal and States Command Headquarters

This is what institutional pride looks like. This is how trust is built, from within.

We stand firm in our mission: to build a force where honour is celebrated, service is valued, and excellence is not an exception but the expectation.

To our officers across the country: this is your reminder that the job is not thankless. Your sacrifices are seen. Your integrity will not go unnoticed. The Nigeria Police Force, under the current leadership, is committed to ensuring that professionalism is not just praised - but promoted.

The last reasonable IGP Nigeria had was Tafa Balogun, since then it has been politicized and police used to enable crime than fight it.
An IGP that flies PJ around the country while the NPF retirees are subjected to abject poverty and some are even having to take up abandoned uniform to extort motorists and form fake cops.
A country that a constable earns less than 150k but knows he can make over 500k from extortion and split it between him and the DPO, while the DPO also remits some up the ladder till it gets to the IGP.
Nigeria is the best place to be a criminal, steal and pay the police to guard you. Infact, they will negotiate and even arrest the owner of the money you stole.

Congratulations to the promoted and decorated officers. However, I hope the process for the selection of the awardees is not based on nepotism.
I no trust NPF.

Let's us see the full list of these "deserving" national heroes. They are heroes, they should be celebrated not hidden in obscurity. There are already allegations of tribalism and cronyism flying all around. Make the list public.

is it like this is the first time in the history of the Nigerian Police that police officers will be promoted and then decorated by a serving IGP?

even if it is, how should this be an achievement?

They are officers promoted by merit and not by ethnicity. Unlike recruitment that must pass the federal character test, Promotion in the federal public service is governed strictly by vacancy and merit. There is no federal character in promotion. If you can’t make it by merit this year, put in more effort and try again next year instead of trying to ethnicize the effort and gallantry of competent officers.

Same Tafa Balogun that was charged for 13Billion Naira corruption case?

🤣 This thread is comedy gold!

All kinds of funny questions!

One person asked if this is the first time that police officers are promoted and decorated by the IGP. Someone should ask him if this is the first time that a thread has been created about police officers being decorated by the IGP (I have personally created many in the past 14 years).

The way that people contort and try to twist everything because of politics is extremely funny.

Who is this illegal IGP trying to motivate in the NPF. Most officers are already low in morale due to their poor working conditions.

Only Ugborough and Hausa, no SS, No SW , No NC.

This is a clear marginalisation of other regions.

I call on the IGP to suspend this decoration and promotion.

Federal character must be applied.

I condemn this, I condemn it I condemn it, I condemn it I condemn.

This is sad and unacceptable by the masses.

We say enough is enough with this marginalisation.

It is not totally based on merits. It is also based on federal character. For example, in the NPF, there are 6 DIGs representing the six zones of the country, NW, NE, NC, SW, SE and SS. For example, if a DIG that represents SS is retiring or kpai and in the whole of SS, the most senior police officer is an Assistant Commissioner of police, he or she will be jumped promoted to a DIG to represent his/her SS zone despite the fact that other zones may have AIG, CP and DCP etc. The same thing applied in appointment of Perm Secretary in the federal civil service. An assistant director can be promoted to a perm sec if there is vacancy from his state for perm sec and there is no director in his state despite the fact that other states may have directors.

Trash.
These two that were mentioned are the only none Yoruba in the recent promotion that took place. Majority of those promoted are actually Yoruba. (As reported by Sagarareporter)

That's another source of entertainment. Some people on this thread say that all the people that are being promoted are Yoruba and that other ethnic groups are being discriminated against, while other people on this same thread say that only two of the people that are being promoted and that Yorubas are being discriminated against.

Isn't this entertaining?
