Nigerian In France Handed Over To US Over Cybercrimes, $2.5 Million Tax Fraud by BlackViper(op): 7:58am On Aug 06, 2025
A Nigerian man based in France, Chukwuemeka Amachukwu, has been handed over to the United States to face multiple charges, including computer hacking, fraud, and identity theft.

The 39-year-old was arrested in France and transferred to New York on Monday after a formal request by US authorities.

According to a press release from the US Department of Justice on Tuesday, Amachukwu and several co-conspirators based in Nigeria were involved in hacking US tax preparation firms.

They allegedly stole customers’ personal information and used it to file fake tax returns.

The scheme reportedly led to the theft of at least $2.5 million in refunds from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

“Amachukwu also allegedly took part in a separate fraud scheme that promised his victims valuable investments that did not in fact exist,” said US Attorney Jay Clayton for the Southern District of New York.

He is also accused of using stolen identities to file fake claims with the Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program, which allegedly earned him another $819,000 in illegal payouts.

If convicted, Amachukwu could face several decades in prison. His charges include conspiracy to commit computer intrusions, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, and identity theft.

Very shameful. You do not need to steal, rob, kill, make human or animal rituals to get wealthy. You call some people “poor farmers” not knowing that your so called “poor farmer” is wealthy from his farm. This harvest season, yam farmers will smile seriously to the bank. Some yams will go for between 6-8K farm gate price. Imagine harvesting five thousand tubers. What about potato farmers, ginger and garlic farmers? Is it not better to be a street cleaner than to spend the remaining days of your life in prison? The man or woman that you call a street cleaner will be better than you, with freedom and contentment. What about livestock farmers?

Now his peace has been taken away. That surely would include his friends and family members that were benefiting from him.

Any one that destroys the image of this country abroad, when that person finishes serving their sentence, there should be a special sentence waiting for them in Nigeria.

This is one aspect of Nigerian culture that can only continue to be exported overseas unless it is abolished locally. As long politicians make no laws against nepotism, favouritism, incompetence, contract inflation, tribalism and these vices continue to fester, Nigerians will never understand the value of competence, skill, hardwork and integrity.

France is now on the list of these unpatriotic elements.

I hope the South-East states Governors, in particular, with the families, do more to stop the recruitment of their youth into these crimes.
