Oboy, please stop all this bullshit it is already stale and boring. How can you be saying all this nonsense?
Jevica:
Oga, it is not the same day God created heaven and earth? which one Nigeria is 65 years and England is over 1,000 years. Did England existed several years before God created Nigeria? You are one of the people who believed that Mongo Park discovered River Niger even when Nigerian have been drinking from the River.
Forkthiefnubu:
Then remove your clothes and other stuff that comes with living in today’s world and go back to when England was 65 yrs , this crappy justification is annoying
Shattuck:
south Africa is diverse, so is Rwanda and most other nations of the world while every nation has its flaws only a few like Nigeria justifies it's backwardness and wants it's citizens to just settle for less and for whatever little it's leaders decide to give, those fighting for a better nigeria, those who refuse to settle for less are the true patriots.
You are each being unnecessarily simplistic. There are multiple complex factors for the state of development of each and every single nation on Earth today. These factors include geographic, climatic, commercial and migrational factors along with a slew of diverse historical factors too complex to detail here - and anyone should know this without even having to be told.

Now the mere fact that one is able to note the various factors at play by no means amounts to "making excuses" or "justifying" our state of backwardness - absolutely not. While there are historical factors that account for our condition, it is simultaneously true that in many ways we have made an absolute mess of things through scandalously unacceptable decisions along with factors such as corruption, laxity, indiscipline and many more. Two things can be true at the same time and we of course must push ourselves harder to accomplish that which we must as a nation.

However, if someone comes along and tells you that the fact that we have been lumped in artificial colonial borders which presents us with having one of the most diverse and complicated countries in the world as our own - has nothing to do with our condition - then that person is simply ignorant or lying. And the person who points it out as a factor in our condition is not necessarily just "making excuses." You have to see that those historic factors (e.g: the amalgamation - and many more) play a role, while it remains true that we need to work on our shortcomings.

In this same way, many people like to compare us to micro-homogenous states such as Qatar, the UAE, Singapore, etc. This comparison is extremely mis-footed. The challenges which unavoidably bedevil a complex heterogenous behemoth of over two hundred million people and over three hundred different tribes and languages cannot be compared to those which face those tiny homogenous states. And our complexity will always present challenges in terms of conflict-resolution and security which will take generations to overcome - there is no magic here and it is unavoidable no matter what.

And for you, those countries are picture perfect? Each has its challenges and all still cannot move at the same pace. Remember that Nigeria is a melting pot of over three hundred ethnicities and languages. This in itself creates a level of conflict and tension which slows development. It took Europe centuries to beat its conflicts and arrive where it is today - and Europe as a whole is not as diverse as Nigeria alone.

Tony Elumelu is from Delta State and not from the dot sadeast region.

I just needed to clarify that. The only sadeasterners billionaire we know of are the 4by4 fake drug and electronic merchants.

BigIyanga:
So Seplat, Elumelu’s companies about 4-5 of them no follow🤷🏿‍♂️

Yes a whole lot different. Capitalizationis talking about the value of the company in relation to the prize of its shares on the stock exchange market while earnings is talking about sales. If a company has 1 million shares and the price of its shares on the market is 200 Naira per share then the market capitalization for that company is 200 million Naira

Wow.

Thanks so much.

So they are not really talking about richest and biggest profit generation brands/company, but instead they are referring to the value of the company. Am i right?

The list is full of food, telcos and banks.... No single tech.
But people don't patronise tech like foods and others.

Yes this is correct like you were already told. But there is still a direct correlation between the earnings power and the market value.

Generally, the higher a company earns, it tends to reflect in a higher share price thereby increasing its market value.

It's therefore no coincidence that the highest non-oil revenue earners in Nigeria are MTN, Dangote & BUA all of whom also top the market cap list here.

Note: Globacom is a private company hence its absence on this list.

Thanks so much.

But what do you mean by Globacom is a private company?
Is dangote and BUA not private companies too?
I thought dangote and BUA are being owned by Nigerians!

I meant Glo is not publicly listed on the stock market like mtn, dangote & co.

In terms of value, it should be between number 2 to 4, if its shares were publicly traded.

200 years ago most English were living in slums and child labour was common. Today the country is effectively broke, with debt more than 100% of GDP.
Less than 2000 yrs ago the area known as Nigeria today and England were at per technological and otherwise, today you are more less at same place you were sans corruption eons ago
