In some cases, some job seekers have been kidnapped, raped or used for ritual purposes. May God continue to expose these criminals! |

It's really alarming. A cousin just got scammed a few days ago. And the thing was that she was warned that don't pay for any recruitment nonsense, but will I say it's out of desperation she fell for it. |

winqs:Nigeria’s rising unemployment has created fertile ground for scammers who exploit the hopes of job seekers. With over 33% youth unemployment, many young Nigerians are desperate for a breakthrough — and fake recruiters know this. They disguise themselves as legitimate HR officers, use company logos, and craft convincing job offers on platforms like WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and even trusted job sites. Victims like Samuel, a 25-year-old graduate from Benue State, are drawn in by promises of employment. After paying ₦18,000 for “training,” he traveled to Lagos only to discover it was a scam — a crowded apartment filled with others who had been duped just like him. In another heartbreaking case, Blessing, a single mother from Abuja, paid ₦5,000 to secure a front desk job that never existed. The scammers had cloned a real company’s identity, then disappeared once they had her money. These aren’t isolated stories — they reflect a growing crisis. Job scams are among the top cybercrimes in Nigeria, costing the country billions annually. Worse still, they prey on the vulnerable: young graduates, women, and those struggling to rebuild their lives. The deception is getting more sophisticated — fake offer letters, official-looking emails, and convincing job ads. But the goal remains the same: to exploit hope for profit. Fighting this requires both awareness and action. Job seekers must be vigilant — no real employer should ask for money. Verification must become a habit. At the same time, tech platforms and regulatory agencies must step up enforcement and public education to protect citizens. Because in a country where one job can change everything, exploiting that hope is more than a scam — it’s a form of violence. |

I am worried about how these individuals are able to acquire your WhatsApp number. They will be asking you questions as if you previously applied for a job and inquiring if you can work from home. This behavior is completely unacceptable. ![]() |

Belleful:all these is not a matter of shine your eyes. It's preying on desperation. Imagine being a graduate for 5 or even 6 years no job. At that point you're completely desperate, humiliated and possibly the gossiping topics among people in your zones. So, such people will almost always fall for this type of scheme. And let's not talk about poor homes. It's a pity really. |

Hard to blame the scammers. Job seekers also must stop being desperate in applying for job vacancies. Most times, there are red flags that are ignored. This doesn't justify their silly acts, however, government should find away to deal with culprits. |

No amount of desperation should push anyone to give a dime to any faceless online employer in the name of securing a job slot. Once you fill any online form, and you are required to either (1) "send to 10 people to receive" an account of money, or, (2) pay any amount of money for anything whatsoever; beware it is a SCAM. |
