Despite the suspension of the controversial 4 per cent Free-on-Board (FOB) import charge, Nigerian importers continue to face skyrocketing costs at the nation’s ports, driven not by formal tariffs but by what many now describe as systemic overvaluation of goods by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).https://westafricaweekly.com/tinubus-revenue-push-is-driving-up-import-prices-through-inflated-customs-valuations/

Buhari started this to promote local manufacturing. I believe this is what Obi meant when he said he will take Nigeria from consumption to production. But since it's Tinubu una hatred. |

Importers will bring in goods and under invoice it in order to cheat the system. Now when caught, this report suggests that customs will now over charge them. Solution: Do not under invoice. Shikena |

The man knows nothing about value production. He's only interested in revenue, revenue, and more revenue. Customs should not primarily be for profit! How will customs make trillions of naira? That's minus the other illegal illegal bribes that you give them to facilitate your request on time. O ga |

Anybody saying this Government of Tinubu is ok for him is either part of the Government or a rejected man in patriotism but accepted in tribalism ... |

FreeStuffsNG:Must you people support every nonsense because of tribalism? Back to the topic: I tried explaining this thing on the other thread where someone was complaining about importers and vehicle prices, and I told them they should blame Tinubu's government majorly for that and they kept on arguing |

Why should it not be for profit? Many countries even use ordinary visa application to make profit, why should custom also not be for profit? Why are Nigerians always talk import import import, do we forbide also exporting our product, skills and services? PlasmaTV: |

JASONjnr:Maybe you should stop putting mouth in topic way above your IQ grade,. how is reckless taxing of businesses and manufacturers suppose to promote local production Are local manufacturers exempted from the tax madness undertaken by custom ... did you consider the fact that majority of raw materials/supplies are imported ... so how is tax helping, do we have raw materials to produce car in Nigeria A govt that want to promote local production but remains nonchalant about farmers insecurity A govt that want to promote local production wont shoot Interest rate out of the SMEs' reach ... check int rate nd viability is blinking When Peter obi was talking of promoting Production he meant in the context of policies to creat enabling enviromment not extortion in the name of Tax |

We told you Tinubu is a tax collector, they called us name. Custom is full of corruption, you can clear a 2017 Toyota in the morning, by evening same amount will not clear. Need for transparency, irony is more than half of those money end up in private accounts, Custom people are rich men. ![]() |

It has always been obvious that the so-called increase in revenue is a case of robbing Peter (masses) to pay Paul (politicians) It makes no sense that in an era of constricted demand, govt revenue is rising |

![]() BAT is the archetypal 'tax and spend', 5th world politician - where the phrase is used in the most pejorative sense. Those who mean well for this country have yelled themselves hoarse, constantly advising this government: build our institutions...or watch your government fail hard. But BAT has ignored their advice. Like his predecessors, the excuses and disclaimers will flow freely once he is no longer in power. But nobody will pay him any attention then. ![]() |

If this is true, then it is bad. The ports should be a place to facilitate trade and not a revenue generating machine. |

FreeStuffsNG:And how is Custom in position to value the real cost .. if importers can underprice what stops Customs from over evaluating considering they have annual targeted revenue In market price varies .. what someone bought on ebay $100, another can go on Alibaba and buy for $70 .. how do custom consolidate price value in this context Some of you just talk, without deep reasoning ..., do you know their is auction where prices are usually low compared to markat value ... that one tew naa underprice/lie smh |

Customs will be the death of this country. Until they destroy Nigeria patapata they will not rest. A recent experience I had with them convinced me that they have an agenda to subtly bring down this administration. Customs is the primary driver of inflation in present day Nigeria. |

APC just dey squeeze us, dey bleed us. Them go increase tariff for imported goods, since we don't produce. Imagine paying almost 4 million to import 2003 Camry big for nothing as tariffs, 22 yrs old motor, and then sell for 8 million to suffering masses. So na we the people the governments dey suck our blood |

JASONjnr:If you think this is what Peter Obi meant moving from consumption to production then you are sorely and pathetically mistaken. Obviously both you and Tinubu are so ignorant of how to revive an economy. Even SMES are not spared from the harsh, wicked and terrible economic policies of this maladministration. The band A fraud of PHCN has crippled a lot of SMES. Tinubu is just an arrogant failure. |
