My opinion on this matter from the get go has been that such unusual rewards, (oversized parcels.... ) should have been channeled through the private sector. Through sponsors and industry partners and not directly from the government which has a hard time squaring the circle of austerity. National awards, houses perhaps (I don't know where this tradition came from) and a bit of cash (the value of which represents a universally acceptable and sustainable amount). |

CoreWaveMedia:if I tell u my mind now this bot will take a swipe on me .....let me pretend to be civil here.....see baba no one is against the president unsterilized phila trophism but when it comes at the expense of physical/ national concerns and pressing needs then the gestures become a gaze of worthless self serving ego pleasing and recklessness.... Rewarding the girls is good if done moderately after all a worker is entitled to his wage ..but when gifting comes at the sidetracks of basic priorities and pressing national desires where lump sum are thrown around then it becomes obviously tht the subhuman in the helm of affairs in this country in at par with basic economics concepts such as choice, opportunity cost ,scale of preference.......A nation battling with economic redundancy and spiral and galloping inflation owing to a fall in norminal wage should not be in the party where cash are thrown around for self gratification......Do I blame him? |

The Tinubu family knows nobody would love them without their money, and so they regularly bribe their way into the hearts of an impoverished populace. |

adamkkk:Somebody is scheming to become a president and you don't want the populace to talk about him? Did people not talk about Tinubu before he became president? Tinubu is a politician just like Obi, so it's ok if he plays politics to solidify his position as the GCFR 😆 |

SmartyPants:Great, now reflect that argument on the plight of the veterans and civil servants. Coming up with some utterly pathetic half-baked flimsy defence of this gross mismanagement of public funds is just laughable |

Racoon: Zackattack:Actually there is nothing bad in that. Politicians will use something. Obi is using religion and tribal sentiments to get followers, Tinubu is using money, all na politics. 😂 |

madridguy:Whilst we are at it, let’s also celebrate soldiers in the bush, sacrificing their lives for our safety. I mean, these girls won the cup for the 10th time in 14 outings. There are soldiers who have lost their lives in combating terrorists and insurgence. |

Tflex01:are you saying that your post below which necessitated my questions is stupid? Tflex01:were the athletes not paid for the matches they played and won? did they play for free through out the competitions? ENgland won the women's Euros. did you see ENgland giving them $100,000 and flats in england? |

madridguy:I wonder ooo... Complaining left and right as if the beneficiaries aren't Nigerians. These are common Nigerians being empowered financially, not politicians but some have an issue against it. If they decide not to give them would that solve all the issues in the country? 😕 |
| Re: $100,000 Prizes: When Too Much Is Inadequate by SmartyPants(m): 11:14am On Aug 07, 2025 |
Mrchippychappy:So it's the one-off $3m these girls are getting, not the billions being siphoned daily, that is preventing veterans and civil servants from getting their due? You ought to be ashamed of yourself but if you had shame you would never have made such comments to begin with. |

Dysfunctional system producing dysfunctional mentality. Some of the comments here shows how poor the mentality of many Nigerians is. Many cannot even read and understand what the author is saying. All they can see is that he is condemning the money lavished on the players, but the write-up is more than that. It is saying if there is proper structure on ground, those in power won't have to lavish sport men and women humongous cash gifts whenever they win trophies and that is very correct. |
