Kwam1’s Apology: AGF, IG Will Decide, Says NCAA by adenigga(op): 9:48am On Aug 09, 2025
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, on Friday, reiterated that the fate of fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 de Ultimate or KWAM 1, will have to be decided by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, to whom petitions against the musicians have been submitted.

The NCAA spokesman, Michael Achimugu, stated this in an interview with Saturday Beats in response to KWAM1’s public apology following his controversial face-off with officials of the ValueJet Airline at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

In a personally signed statement shared with Saturday Beats on Friday, KWAM1 described the incident as “unfortunate”, adding that it was not his intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols in any way.

The airport altercation was captured in a video that went viral on Wednesday, with KWAM1 seen in a seeming attempt to obstruct the plane’s take-off.

The incident drew widespread public backlash, with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority slamming a six-month flying ban on the singer.

The pilots involved in the incident were also suspended and placed under investigation.

The NCAA also, on Thursday, said it had written a petition to the Attorney General of the Federation and the Inspector General of Police, demanding KWAM1’s probe and prosecution.

The singer, however, in a video circulated online on Friday afternoon, apologised for his actions.

When asked for the NCAA’s next line of action following KWAM1’s apology, the spokesman said he had not seen the apology.

He, however, stressed that the NCAA lacks the authority to prosecute the matter, adding that, “We have referred the case to the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, who are better positioned to determine and communicate the next steps.”

On his part, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Keyamo, in a response to Saturday Beats, said though he had seen KWAM1’s apology on social media, the matter would have to be deliberated upon.

“We have just seen this (apology) on social media like everyone else. We have not had the opportunity to deliberate on it,” Keyamo wrote in a WhatsApp message to our correspondent.

Meanwhile, when asked if the police had received the petition written by the NCAA against KWAM1, the Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said he needed to check the police records.

He promised to get back, but he had yet to do so at the time of filing this report, and subsequent calls placed to his mobile line rang out.

Similarly, efforts to get the reaction of the AGF proved abortive.

In his public apology on Friday, the singer said, “The incident that occurred at the local wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on August 5, 2025, involving my humble self and ValueJet Airline, was, to say the least, unfortunate.

“Unknown to many, I suffer from chronic dehydration, and my doctor strongly advised that I remain constantly hydrated. This is why I always carry a water flask with me. And contrary to the negative narrative being circulated in some quarters, the flask I carried on that particular day contained only water, not alcohol, as wrongly alleged.”

The renowned singer also noted that he passed through two security screenings with the empty flask. According to him, the flask was only filled with water at the lounge, just before he headed to the tarmac; a fact which he said can be verified by the CCTV footage at the airport lounge.

Reaffirming his “unwavering patriotism and unshaken loyalty” to the country, the ‘Ade Ori Okin’ singer said, “Over the years, I have consistently used my God-given talent and platform to promote the Nigerian brand across the globe. I would never do anything to tarnish the image I’ve built over the past five decades, nor would I knowingly act in a way that could diminish the reputation of the country I love so dearly.

“That said, the incident is sincerely regretted. I remain committed to upholding the values and responsibilities that come with being a global ambassador of Nigerian music and culture.

“To the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, FAAN, NCAA, ValueJet, fellow Nigerians, and my teeming fans across the world who have shown great concern since the incident happened, I tender my unreserved and heartfelt apology.”

Recall that footage of the musician involved in an altercation with officials of the airline went viral on the Internet during the week. In one of the videos, K1 could be seen standing in front of the jet, before the aircraft suddenly started moving in preparation for takeoff, and its wing nearly hit the singer, who had to duck as the aerial vehicle nearly crushed his head.

Let go of the matter. After saying sorry, what else?

Modified: I think this clarification is necessary

Before the incident, I had issue with Kwam1 not something personal but based on what people have been saying about it. When I first read the thread, I also condemned him questioning who is he taking himself for and never bother to respond to any other related threads.

When I saw his video yesterday apologizing even admitting he's not supposed to be the one that should be involved in such situation, I was like so he can be apologetic upon how arrogant people have been saying he is

So after apologizing, what else? The herdsmen, bandits that have been killing people, which of them have apologized to Nigerians?

K1 even admitted that he's not supposed to be the one doing such hence apologizing.

So after saying sorry, what else?

The law is not emotional ..saying sorry is not enough cos another person can do same and say i am sorry and it goes on and on without making anyone a scape goat...

The law must take its full course on the matter ...

Even making the apology makes him guilty before the law and should be ready for the consequence

So, lets assume someone murders your son. When caught he says "sorry". I hope you will just pat his back and "let go". I am just asking ooo.

IGP, AGF are not ICAO members, so if Nigeria sweeps it under the carpet as usual, someone may have already escalated it since the pilot's license was officially suspended.

When we say that university education changes people's thinking, this is what we mean. It gives you opportunity to think and to research. One way to do that is 'Scenario Building ". Just asking, did you attend any university?
Bro, I asked you a simple question. Instead of answering, you activated a ban on me ... please can you just answer?

Stop sounding incoherently and respond to the question I asked

Or are you saying you are using your own education to be sounding incoherently to the topic of discussion?

There is evidently no case against Kwam 1.. he asked the relevant authorities to review the CCTV footage of his activities at the airport to see things for themselves.. relying on hearsay to persecute the music legend is unfair.

Once again, the law, the judiciary, and the security apparatus stand compromised. Nigeria’s statutes bend under the weight of nepotism and ethnocentrism, applied not with justice, but with bias. And one cannot help but wonder, had it been someone else, by now the airwaves would be flooded with sensational tales of IPOB plotting to blow up an aircraft.

May anything APC be cursed and destroyed by fire for introduction of bigotry in the high places , even in churches, we have not have bigotry and bigots preaching the word of God. Not even the anti Christ can truly try this on the world. But anything goes in Nigeria. Satan can be elected as as the president provided he comes from a certain part ofvthe country and contests in a particular political party.

Should every wrongful act go with an apology and be forgiven?

So the people in prisons that committed minor offences, if they apologize, should they be let go?

No society runs well where different laws are applied based on tribes

Whoever is the commander in chief is responsible for the whole country until when a serious president comes and creates state police then governors can be held responsible.

There is no sit at home in my state nonetheless

It is well. As much as to err is human, leadership comes with the heavy demand of ensuring that laws are respected by the high and low. I do hope this isn't swept under the carpet as it would become a huge cankerworm tomorrow.
Let them keep "sitting" on it.

After apologizing, he should be prosecuted! Stop saying stupid things! So if people died and he apologized, we should just accept it? He has shown the whole criminal world that it is possible to get contrabands very close to airplanes, and this is a MAJOR security issue! These and many more are justifications the international aviation authorities will rely on to downgrade Nigerian airlines, and block them from flying certain routes, but how would you know when your brain is only filled with stupid things.

To the mods, I didn’t insult him ooo! Make una no hide my comment oo!!
Re: Kwam1’s Apology: AGF, IG Will Decide, Says NCAA by appleous: 1:39pm On Aug 09, 2025
If this offence was committed by an average Nigerian, the NCAA would have flexed on the person, because the NCAA is empowered to take action on issues like this.

However, since its a compadre of this president, they are suddenly powerless and are kicking the ball to the incompetent AGF, who is known to stall on issues related to PEPs or associates of the current president.

Nigerians, do not expect justice to be done. KWAM 1's name will not be added to no gaddem no-fly list; he will be in Texas next month, after flying out from MMIA.
