Of the 23 active domestic airlines in Nigeria, only five of them control 75 per cent of domestic traffic in the country. Yet, state governors are racing to build more unproductive airports that will eventually become a burden on the viable ones because they want to show achievements and massage the ego of their people (our state get airport). |

It is an expensive business to enter And also the market size is small. There aren't much travellers from Nigeria, you can actually check the daily traffic online and compare with some countries with almost similar population size like ours. Go to any major airport in Nigeria and you won't see much people in the hall. I have been to airport in Nigeria where only 100 people were in the waiting hall. Another stuff is that if 5 airlines control 75 percent of traffic that means jobs in that industry will be very competitive and it means, it is near impossible to progress in your career |

Reduce the cost of flying to increase patronage and thus maximise profits. |

SmartPolician:Most of the built airports are Cargo Airports, Again; more airport means more access of the domestic airline to the potential customer & more jobs to the state in which they were created. Take Anambra for example . . . |

No wonder the tickets are ridiculously expensive. |

Na true Onyema talk be this — as Yoruba go say, omi lo ma n gba ki agba ma wo (na water dey support boat make e no sink). If government fit open that special forex window for airlines, e go save dem from early “RIP” wey don carry plenty local operators before. Air Peace don show say integrity fit still dey fly for Nigerian sky, but without cheaper rates and better infrastructure, even the best pilot go dey struggle like keke for express. Government support plus operator discipline? Na that combo fit make our airlines no just survive, but dey cruise steady. |

Damn! Do they expect poor masses to enter plane before? reduce the god-damn price to a minimum state of affordability |

Efuaye:Why should they reduce price of ticket when cost of running the flight operations has increased? |
| Re: Only Five Airlines Control 75% Of Air Traffic In Nigeria – Rewane by SmartPolician: 1:53pm On Aug 09, 2025 |
motymop:Nigerians are extremely poor people and air travels are exclusively reserved for the privileged minority. In those countries you are comparing with Nigeria like the UK, their government is massively subsidizing their air travels. That's why they can afford it and their airports have more traffic than Nigerian airports. If you really want to know if Nigerians travel, visit motor parks. |

Not one mention of ValuJet. I am sure they already got some publicity to leverage on. Good or bad, I don't know how it will pan out for them. |

SmartPolician:There is no connection between the two? Whether 1 airline or 250 What does that have to do with state governor building unproductive airports What is the logic? |

Most of our so called international airports are nonsense. These are the only four dominant airports: Lagos airports (muritala Mohammed) Abuja airports (nnamdi azikwe) Kano airports(Aminu kano) Port Harcourt airports The rest 16 are manageable (economically viable) Kaduna Ibadon Enugu Sokoto Maiduguri Anambra Ogun Ebonyi Etc The rest are a huge mess and waste of money eg -Yobe -Ekiti -All the remaining south-east airports (too close to each other without any traffic) |

motymop:It's not unexpected. Imagine having to pay over N100k for a one way ticket. And that's for AbJ-Los route which from my observation is usually the cheapest. Other routes are more expensive - some almost 200k (economy class oo!) 😮 How many Nigerians can afford that |

SmartPolician:I disagree with you. Every state deserves to have an airport. The fact that the economy is a bit slow does not mean that aviation transportation should not be considered |

Nigerians are too poor to travel. No approval should be given for additional airports in the country. Just a money laundering scheme |

Lazy9jaYouth:From experience, we can see that these airports are basically useless. How much cargo comes into any state in Nigeria apart from Lagos by air? |
| Re: Only Five Airlines Control 75% Of Air Traffic In Nigeria – Rewane by koning: 2:53pm On Aug 09, 2025 |
Lazy9jaYouth:Where is the Cargo?!!. They were simply avenues to loot. |

And still most childish governors are still bent on building more airports? When you see news like this you will surely know that majority of our problems comes from wrong priorities of our state governors who like building projects they will never be able to manage. 😭😭😭😭 |

What I hate is hearing any Nigerian requesting for cheaper fx either for business or pilgrimage. What it means is requesting for the dark days of wide gap between parallel and official rates which preludes fx roundtripping. |

aribisala0:The logic is that governors should be investing billions of naira in projects that should be able to generate revenue for the state, not become a burden on the country. If a state invests the same amount used to building airports in buying luxury buses for moving people within and outside the states, the investment will generate huge revenue for the state. You govern a state the way you run a business. There must be a profit/loss account. |
