So you can choose to stop buying or deflate the price to her whenever you bought and she asks you the price. She will still complain by the way.

Goodluck bro.
Na to deflate the price ooo

I noticed each time I tell my wife the actual price of the items I bought, she always complain I was cheated by the seller.

These are items you hardly can get within the city center.

The issue now is that, I'm now scared of telling her the true worth of the items I recently got while returning from South South. It was a road trip so I bought plenty cheap food stuff.

Madam say I no Sabi price. I just tire.
These are stuff I considered very very cheap.

Who the experience the same thing abeg ?
How about we ignore all the bad advice dished out here and try and communicate like adults, hmmm?

Tell her "babe/madam, I know you are the Ogbongbe Gbana of pricing, after you na you! I like doing these things to please you but when you complain about the price, it's like you don't appreciate my effort. So why not ignore my pocket and praise your baby for thinking of how to please his woman?"

If she complains after that statement, come and report her to me and I give you permission to chase NL girls wink

(No, I won't give you permission sha, everyone on this site is crazy, myself included).

Your wife thinks she's helping you, she doesn't realize it is hurting your feelings and making you feel unappreciated. So tell her, use your words, you went to school, you can speak smiley

PS: my mum and dad had that same issue almost 40 years ago, over cooking pots. After their talk, she stated going "you paid N20,000 for this meat (which I know is actually N8,000 but I won't mention it)?!! Woooowwww kiss!!!"

Ignore her or just tell her you bought it at a higher price.

She can buy the items 1 Naira or probably get them free of charge when she gets to the market herself. Some people thinks living in Nigeria today is the same as 1955
She takes her time to search for a particular item so I don't go to market with, she has her own car.

Your wife's concern is borne out of love and nothing more.

And even the Op knows this but just decided to troll his wife.

Single men advicing married men only on NL.
it's not. It has nothing to do with love. It's normal manipulation tactics to esnare the man into always consulting her before doing anything.

So much sense in all that you've said.

Well appreciated

Learn not to tell her price. Whenever she asks, tell hear babe with a smile I've forgotten the price. A Smile inbetween mischief and innocence of a child. Be stoic about like 3 times in a role. She would eventually excuse your folly.

Is there a school where women learn these behaviors?
Women can be quite difficult to understand.
Please continue buying those items; just don’t disclose the total cost.
There seems to be an informal school where they learn it

Me, when am asked the price, I do simply reply " last price" and walk away, no more discussion on the matter, or change topic.

It's all your decision. You can decide to ask how much she believes it's worth and get better at haggling prices or you can keep throwing away money (especially if you really do have more than enough), afterall, rich people don't think much about pricing goods.

Is she the bread winner that you have to give an item-by-item account of whatever was purchased? I don't understand the need to give account to your wife of every purchases with your darn money.

It’s normal with all women, me inclusive, just threaten to stop buying things for her should she try it again
Re: I Tell Her The Real Price, Now This Is Happening. by Nazgul: 3:48pm On Aug 14, 2025
Most women do this a lot. And when you tell them to buy it themselves, they'll end up inflating the price so they can collect more money from you and pocket the change.

Whenever she asks you such question next time, ask her if she wants to refund you back the money, if she doesn't, there's no need telling her.

I've never come across a woman who returned change back to her husband after shopping.

Bro, stop wasting saliva. Women are the same in so many ways. You can't please them. Just do your best and face front.

Baba, keep buying. Anytime she queries you, ask her to grateful that you can afford to buy them. As long as its convenient and affordable to you.

Why not come out and say it as its is?

When you go out and you buy a rare perfume for her....does she seek the price tag?
When you order fish and chips for her does she ask for the price?
You surprise her with a car on her birthday is the first question that props up the price tag?

Varying reasons could account for this very prevalent primordial question;

1. The wife is insecure. She doesnt want her territory encroached upon. You must remain in the dark as regards the cost of homekeeping.
2. She has been programmed to think that you and indeed all other men are terrible bargainers.
3. She thinks that you have too much leverage to deal with the opposite gender.

Please let her understand clearly that whatever you buy from a trip is a gift and should be treated as a gift. Let her not worry that her monthly allowance for housekeeping will be affected in any way.

Of course women have a better negotiation skill than men and that's why they are even better placed when it comes to jobs that needs lobbying

A woman can practically start acting nice towards a seller just to get a good deal

While men act nice to a seller most especially female and he pays more than the actual price

So she might be right though

Just let her know that you just want to always do things to make the family grow better.

You are taking food from her mouth. Buying foodstuffs is the one of the many avenues she can collect money from you. If you buy, she won't be able to use that method again

I don't disclose the price of my choices to them. If they ask, I say you do not need that information! And it works.

That's how a lot of women do.
But you don't have to bother yourself about it.
As long as you don't feel cheated then don't let it trouble your peace. I do know that buying food stuffs along the road on a road trip is usually cheaper within our resident city centres and market.
I'll only advice, probably create time and visit any of the markets within your place of residence and do a market survey price check on those food stuffs bought. Also ensure the quality matches same or even better given the price. But whatever your findings, just keep it to yourself.
Good luck.
