This can pass as a blockbuster movie script to show the endurance and tenacity of a man. |

gidgiddy:Not really Gowon but Britain. North wanted to secede after the counter coup of 1966, British government advised them not to secede that they would suffer. Gowon agreed with the Aburi Accord until he returned back to Lagos and Britain through their agents told Gowon not to accept the Aburi Accord. Britain is the problem. And God will definitely pay Britain back, just a matter of time. It's even happening gradually as Muslim extremists are gradually taking over Britain. They will definitely reap the fruits of their wickedness in Nigeria and other black African nations |

The man has 9 lives.. (typical of the Igbo spirit) kudos to him. The story further emphasizes what the Igbo man went through during the war... No wonder they came out blazing. I've been wondering where these ppl got their steel will from that others are always crying and wailing about ![]() |

I weep for this killing contraption after reading this. Ironically those who perptrated this evil are hoping to live in peace now, even while committing more. Nature is precise The earlier you people start cleansing the land, and desisting from evil, the better. |

And after reading this agonisingly heartbreaking post, somebody would expect me to be patriotic to this cursed nation Just imagine what human beings were made to go through by their supposed countrymen! May God Almighty never forgive Gowon and all those involved in carrying out the 3years onslaughts on armless and harmless people of Igboland.....Amen! Some ignorant or mischievously lying folks would come and tell us the c*CK and bull story about the civil war being a reaction to some Nigerian soldiers killing Ahmadu Bello and all other senseless talks, they'll forget to tell you what preceded the killing of Ahmadu Bello and other Nigerian leaders at the time by Nigerian soldiers! They'll not mention the unprovoked massacres of Igbos and other southerners living in the north at the time. Blaming Igbos for the killing of Ahmadu is just like blaming Pankshin people of Plateau State for the killing of Murtala Muhammed by Buka Suka Dimka. Or better still, why did northerners of Hausa and Fulani origin forgive Buhari when he carried out the coupe that dethroned Shehu Shagari and even made him their political hero? Yet, they blamed the whole Igbo tribe for the action of a few Nigerian soldiers many of whom were not even of Igbo tribe! Why did the Hausa and Fulanis look the other way when Igbos were being massacred in the north but suddenly found their voices when the soldiers struck ![]() A nation built on injustice and lies against one of the major tribes would forever remain cursed and never know peace! This post has just spoilt my Sunday! |

madridguy:If you want to be fair in analyzing issues like this, just try and take away tribal sentiments or hatred and research the issue deeply. Ojukwu did not start any civil war. Ojukwu was the Military Governor of Old Eastern Nigeria which comprised of today's Southeast and SouthSouth (minus part of Delta and Edo). After the counter coup that led to the killing of Nigeria's Head of State Gen. Aguiyi Isonsi, Northern soldiers saw it as a time to wipe off all Igbos, so they started a Pogrom (genocide) against Igbos living in The North. Ojukwu called on Gowon the new Head of State to please use his power as the Head of State to stop the killing of Igbos in the North, Gowon did nothing and watched as Northern soldiers and civilians killed civilian Igbos living peacefully in the North. Ojukwu told Gowon that if this continues that Eastern Nigeria will have no option but to secede from Nigeria. From there Ojukwu started telling Gowon that from the look of things that the only way for Nigeria to return back to peace is for every Region to be completely independent, controlling their resources, security, etc to protect their people. Ghana's Military Leader then invited Gowon and Ojukwu to Aburi Ghana for a peace negotiation. They both went. They both agreed on full regional system or confederation whereby every region controls their security, resources and remit a certain percentage to central government to be headed by Gowon. Gowon agreed and they signed it and had a toast that peace will be restored in Nigeria. Ghana's Military Leader personally drove Gowon and Ojukwu to the airport as both leaders held hands together with joy. On reaching Lagos, British government through their agents told Gowon not to accept the Aburi Accord that it favors Eastern Nigeria more than any other region since they have the newly discovered crude oil in Eastern Nigeria. So Gowon refused to announce the Aburi Accord agreement to Nigerians and to implement it. Ojukwu waited for him weeks, sent him Telegram he ignored it and after more weeks he claimed he had Malaria. Ojukwu still waited and Gowon after several weeks refused to announce the Aburi Accord agreement to Nigerians, Ojukwu told Gowon that if he refused to announce it that he would have no other option but to announce it, Gowon ignored him and continued to run Nigeria same way while the persecution of Igbos continued. Ojukwu then announced the Aburi Accord agreement and Gowon rejected it. Ojukwu summoned Old Eastern Nigeria elites, artisans, market women, men, students, traditional rulers, etc at Nsukka to ask for a way forward. They told Ojukwu that they are tired of being in the same country with people that despise them and killing them, that they want to be on their own. That was how Ojukwu declared Eastern Nigeria an independent nation called Biafra. Again Gowon wanted to let Biafra secede but Britain came again and told Gowon not to allow them go because British Petroleum with Shell were the ones mining the crude oil found in Oloibiri Bayelsa then which was being used to run Britain and Dutchland then because they were exploiting Nigeria's crude. They promised Gowon that they will fully back Nigeria if Biafra resist and use military force to force Biafra to surrender. That was how Gowon declared war against Biafra in what he called "Police Action" to forcefully return Eastern Nigeria back to Nigeria. And that was how Gowon mobilized Nigerian military to invade Biafra and Ojukwu quickly formed Biafra Resistant Soldiers to resist Nigeria's invasion. That was how the war broke out,and Ojukwu mobilized newly formed Biafra Elite soldiers to match to Lagos the then capital of Nigeria to force Gowon to flee to North and allow Biafra to secede. So Ojukwu did not start any war please, instead he saved Igbos from complete annihilation through Northern Pogrom and reason Igbos celebrate him cos his bravery saved Igbos a lot |

madridguy:I don't understand how you people reason. Ordinarily Gowon wouldn't have been the head state as he was a junior to ojukwu in ranks. Would you have allowed your junior to climb ahead of you? To make matter worse, the same Gowon came back from Ghana and broke the agreement. Ordinary agreement for him to keep he couldn't. Of course that warrant ojukwu to declare his region independent, having seen that Gowon has broken the agreement. Gowon is so greedy knowing fully well that he is a junior but wants to overthrown his seniors in the military |

helinues:Dude, even Gowon himself came out and admitted he was wrong and that his decisions led to the regrettable war and lost of property. Gowon pleaded and asked for forgiveness. So what are you saying? Gowon plugged the region into war and he said this himself by admitting he was wrong. The people in the se region tried to defend themselves knowing fully well that they lack weapons |

helinues:You're mischievous yourself. Your question should be "in the order of military rankings, was Gowon even supposed to be the head of state knowing fully well he was a junior? Why did Gowon broke the agreement and immediately declared war after ojukwu declared his region as independent, Gowon himself knowing fully well that he has broken the agreement? |

Focusmind:whether armed or no arms, planned or no plan, when the drums of war sets in, be prepared. After the fatal counter coup, killing of igbos in the north. That set the pace of war despite not been ready. So I respect their bravery on the decision they took. The nazi occupied some sections of soviet union even at the time Russia was not prepared. It was when the nazi came into Ukraine, that was the wake up call for stallin to mobilize his men and they started making artillery, tanks etc before they had the boost to face nazi in Ukraine. |

AFONJAPIG:So Benue and southern Kaduna are the only people that made up Nigeria a country with over 200 tribes ? conveniently too in the near future the children of Boko haram fighters will come online and claim only Igbo Christain soldiers in the Army that killed them during the Boko haram war and not Nigerian Soldiers, maybe you don't know the country have been in a war against Boko haram, stop peddling falsehood. |

A living story. Very horrendous. I was touched to my soul the agony people went through during the Biafra-Nigeria civil war. The Nigeria army soldiers were extremely brutal. They massacred lots of unarmed civilians. Murtala was one of those who perpetrated the worst massacres. After his deed, the people of the southwest named an airport for him. It is very unfortunate that we never ever learn from our history. May God deliver those who are evil-minded. |

Glad no one is insulting him and claiming that his story is rubbish simply because he is not from their tribe. Lots of things happened to a lot of people during the civil war, and on both sides. I agree that it's a good candidate for a good movie if well produced. Dronedude: |
