Why, why, why and why? In two weeks, I’ve received no less than ten of these calls.

It does happen often. I have experienced it countless time and unfortunately, I do not know how to speak Hausa language

The matter has tired me bro

They apparently think once they have someone in mind, they can just pick up a phone, dial any number of their choosing, and the network magically connects with that persons phone regardless whether they own the number or not.

I say the matter has completely tired me bro

One calls me for years every Salah, and 2020 he didn't call, so I called back only to hear he was sick, paid hospital bill but he died 💔 2021 from stroke. Rest on Ishaq. Funny enough am a free thinker.

Ahhhh! I thought I'm the only one that keeps getting their calls.

Is it network glitch or what is really wrong?

it has been like that for ages...when you call a random number you are likely to hear a yoruba or hausa speaking person.

I wonder what free thinking has to do with this story you wrote for us to read 🤔

Is it a new word you just learned? You really need to understand the context in which to use that word sad

You made an unintentional friend. Situations like that create more unity in the country than NYSC or any politician can dream up.

I’m here wishing that one of the many telecom staff who patronize this forum will respond to why this is the case. Sadly, when knowledge is needed in this forum, the thread goes bare.

My number ends with a zero. I once tried an experiment; I typed it with a one at the end and dialed down to nine. About eight of those numbers belonged to northerners.

He must mean liberal which shows that he’s open minded to new thoughts and external opinions.

Maybe, but even though . . . How does being liberal correlate with answering misplaced calls? 🤔

He will better explain. What I feel is he meant being a liberal person, he helped the northerner despite not knowing him from anywhere past frequent missed calls. Many other Nigerians wouldn’t care and would see his sickness as a disguised blessing.

I think the reason is more sinister than you think.

I bought a sim that feels like it was reassigned to me. Even Truecaller displays someone else's name. Every time I get a "wrong number" call, they always ask for the name Truecaller showed me. I think the previous owner left home to hustle and he just hasn't been home yet. My heart breaks a little when someone calls asking for the same person.
Re: Hausa People And Wrong Numbers. by Esthered: 5:28pm On Aug 11, 2025
It's always a northerner most times in my experience. Rarely yoruba for me.
Re: Hausa People And Wrong Numbers. by favour32(m): 6:36pm On Aug 11, 2025
I threw away an airtel sim card because of disturbances from wrong number people especially hausas..
Perhaps, it was a reassigned sim but they kept on making me uncomfortable especially at night.
A man called sometime ago,he was speaking the hausa language.
I replied instantly with English language and said wrong number.
I don't know, if he understood fully what I said but his response was funny.
He responded by saying, "wrong numba!"
He said with the intonation as if I was the one that called.
I hung up instantly rather than waste my time endlessly.
What accelerated my throwing away the sim was a persistent night caller.
What puzzled me was that as soon as I answered the call, there will be dead silence at the other end.
When I discovered that it was deliberate, I had to do the needful to get peace.
I bought another airtel sim.
Till date, nothing of such has happened.

It's common with reassigned sim.

Anytime network divert my call,it must be an Hausa person speaking from the other end.
Why he be like that?

Re: Hausa People And Wrong Numbers. by Javalist: 1:36am On Aug 12, 2025
For me as a Hausa man, it's always Yoruba people disturbing my line.

Just a few hours ago, one elderly woman who doesn't sound educated, called and she was like "bawo ni" and then some other words and couldn't comprehend. I told her wrong number then hang up but she kept calling back until I blocked her number.
Re: Hausa People And Wrong Numbers. by Suicideboy:

A lot of people willing give their numbers out to people who dox them to data brokers.

You think true caller is helping you detect scam callers or the likes of snapchat giving you delusioned privacy

Having worked for a telecomm, with someone phone i can query for some details including list of people you interact and sell your details or clone your sim for the higher bidders.

Exactly 💯 that's why I was confused as you wrote it out here for me to read but it's all good 😊👍

People who voice out their thoughts are very 'dynamic' in the way they behave wink

Nice at least you've made it clearer for us to understand cheesy

But still, one will be wondering what religion and someone's religious orientation has to do with receiving misplaced calls on their phones undecided
