So I calculated my cost of living in UK and converted to naira and put it against my Nigerian cost of living. Annually. My UK cost of living is 37 times more. Like for example if I spend 1000 naira annually in naija in UK the figure will be 37000 naira
Interesting insights right there. Are you using Manchester or London as a reference for your cost of living here? The cost of living has indeed risen globally with the rise in global inflation so adjustments have to be made by folks everywhere. A significant number of folks in the UK are also surviving on credit which has to be paid back to the financial institutions.

The current POTUS only worsened things with his relentless trade tariffs war in addition to the global inflationary fallouts of the Russian-Ukraine War.

That's crazy. Seems like everywhere is failing. Still america is still the best place to make money. Every other country done cast. You can't make money anywhere again
Absolutely! Still the best country in the world

Just a quick one. If you read his post properly, the OP was speaking based off of his own reality (i.e., his cost of living in the U.K) and those within his inner circle of influence. You indeed made some valid points about the UK's minimum wage vs the one in Nigeria. I can see from your last paragraph that you don't fully know the OP and assumed he's a younger person here which he's not.

The gentleman, [@Heaven4444] who you quoted right above is a veteran member of this discussion forum right from 2005 (just like me) and he's a well-educated British citizen (or British-Nigerian) who lived for many years in the UK, a couple of major U.S. cities, and got educated in a prestigious Uni in the United States as well, so he CLEARLY emphasized on his "cost of living in the UK" based off of his own experience as an internationally well-traveled man.

He's NOT one of these young or random people creating thread topics in order to troll or whatever.
My brother, it doesn't matter whether he is well traveled or schooled in Harvard. In fact, that makes it worse as that education is a waste.

Who calculates cost of living for a location without factoring in the wages in that location?

When has cost of living calculation become a personal thing? Since we have 200 million people in Nigeria that means we will have around 200 million different calculations of cost of living since everyone has their own cost of living calculation.

If he had said his expenses in London is 37 times higher than Nigeria that would at least made some sense cos expenses differs. However, expenses is not necessarily the same as cost of living. Cost of living is a metric to determine how affordable a place is for people living there not for outsiders.

Cost of living calculation is general and based on location and wages. For example, if a bag of rice cost 80k in Lagos, that is the cost for everybody whether you earn 70k or 10 million a month in Lagos.
If that same bag of rice cost 70k in Benue, then that is the cost for everyone in Benue irrespective of how much they earn. It is not a personal cost.

If we are to calculate the cost of living in Benue and Lagos based on a bag of rice alone, we can't simply say Benue is cheaper cos rice is 10k cheaper unless we factor in the wages in both Lagos and Benue.
There are lots of people here that are either pushing narratives or sincerely ignorant of what they are talking about. In order to do that they end up bringing examples that makes no sense. Otherwise why will someone calculate an important metric like Cost of living which a lot of people rely on to make decisions in such a simplistic way?

I appreciate your EXTRA layers of insights and examples here as more folks reading this thread would learn the differences between the "cost of living" as a standard metric and "personal expenses."

The CLARITY of verbal or written communication is key based on the semantics or words used.

All the best.

hey bro greetings to you. Can I please make one request first ? Please help me delete the post about what is supposed to be my personal life that you wrote ? Then I will get to these questions. 😄. Yeah please delete that post. All that information is false. I am an ifa priest. Orunmila. I travel the world to battle demons and conquer evil forces hehe .

But to your question I am using Manchester. I believe London would be even worse, maybe like 50 times more. And yes Donald Trump is a chump 😂😂

The average monthly cost of living for a Londoner is like 2800 pounds a month. This is about 6 million naira a month. The average in naija is about 250k. So this is 24 times . And I am being generous with the 250k it's actually 100k in which it would be 60 times more for the UK
