Is Food Price More Higher In Nigeria Than In Western Countries ? by Lostchild(m): 8:57am On Sep 01, 2021
I was watching BETH food and I saw meat a British guy bought for £2 in the UK. I was surprised because a meat like that is being sold here for N2000 (£4)

In Nigeria, meat and fish has become more than expensive and some people can no longer afford them.

My question: Apart from accommodation, is food price more higher in Nigeria than in western countries?

Absolutely I saw this when I first went to Italy. I couldn't believe it. We pay more for food than this people and earn really less. It's not just food sef other goods and services. We pay more for internet here in Nigeria for really shit quality compared to our western counterparts. Even rent is more expensive depending on where you live. An office rent space in Nigeria in places on the island is more expensive than equivalent places in the west.

I am tired.

Nigeria is now a land for only the rich and super rich

A Nigerian american man once said, it is 10 times harder to survive in Nigeria than the US.

Western countries like USA has the best product with cheaper price.

South Korea has more food more than they can eat. They even throw away so much food

Nigeria don tired me
I am tired of Nigeria.

Food in Nigeria is expensive, infact, the country has one of the highest food prices in the world according to multiple sources. More heartreaking is the fact many Nigerians earn below the minimum wage thus they can't afford to eat good food. Ironically, the country is the largest producer of yam in the world yet many can't afford it, pathetic!

Rent largely depends on location. A one bedroom apartment that cost $2000 in San francisco may be around $700 in Dayton Ohio. These analogy also applies to Nigeria where a one-bedroom apartment in Eko Atlantic city is around 7.5m naira, same apartment is a mere 200k in Ikorodu. Besides, the housing quality in the US is far superior. What we could houses in Nigeria are merely doghouses.

Commercial real estate in Nigeria is more expensive than the west. I know this for a fact. I wanted my company to expand in Nigeria and open a location here and the prices for offices were more than what they were in my company's host country. My boss found it absolutely ridiculous and shelved the thoughts it's really terrible later this abroad people will come and lie to us about bills.

Yes, no tax on food in western world, that's why it is cheaper in the western world than in naija

We pay taxes on food over here in the south though. Some states don't charge tax on food and others do.

Food is very expensive here oh! If you buy chicken of $6 in the USA it's enough to cook two pots of soup and even stew join.

This one costs around $6 in wallmart and they are 16 inside! That's less than 3,200. Can you buy a single healthy chicken for 4k in Nigeria today? Food is supposed to be the cheapest commodity in any country! But in Nigeria it's the most expensive.

The 3 basic things of life(food, clothing & shelter) is really expensive here, not only food, but one can't do without food & shelter(a house built some 10 to 15years ago will be competing in rent with houses built within the last 2 years , landlord using cost of building materials as an excuse)
Food is really expensive here, our locally produced foods are also expensive. A framer who produces Garri from his/her farm will tell you pam oil is expensive or that herdsmen doesn't allow them to go to farm.
Look at 390naira(39ruppee) tomatoes in Mauritius as shared by petyprincess . See how fresh and cheap it is, in my local market, a neatly packed tomato like this will be around 600naira

My own is Nigerians that live abroad that will still be lying to Nigerians about bills. Those people are satanic. I work with westerners and they save so much money they pay much less for everything. Electricity nko. Prepaid Meter gulps at least 50k every month with no light and I have to top it up with gen which I buy fuel 1500 daily. 100k on just electricity every month. My German colleague was shocked when I told him I spend 200 USD equivalent on electricity and it's still not constant for me.

Bro, invest in a solar source of electricity. It will save you a lot of cash in the long run.

Same here bro.

Even if you cannot go to Europe there are better African countries you can relocate to especially if you are a programmer, web designer, affiliate marketer, blogger etc.

Countries like Ghana, Gabon, Senegal, Kenya, SA etc all have constant electricity, affordable high speed internet and limited inflation.

If you earn in dollars and convert to their local currency you will really get value for your money and it is easier to get to non African countries from there.

Naija is only getting worse mehn

Ghana, Gabon and Senegal are like 4 times more expensive than Nigeria. You need a very high income to survive in Ghana or na starvation levels you dey look likewise Gabon and Senegal. The only cheap place on that list seems to be Kenya at least from my research online but Ghana and Gabon I don personally go I wouldnt advise anyone to try it.

I don't know about Benin but in Ghana you really don't get any value for your money. Internet is as expensive as Nigeria too and shitty or even more expensive sef. Food is very very costly. Rent too is very costly especially in Accra. You can relocate to other towns but they are more of villages than towns

Jump and pass Ghana then grin

I've stayed briefly in Cotonou sha and I can say it is way better than Nigeria.

Good roads, cheap food, cheap housing, constant electricity, stable economy, cheap beer and cigarettes
