No country or nation rises by taxation. Countries grow as a result of purposeful, well-directed expenditure marked by accountability.

Both are missing in the Nigerian context
You mean there can be expenditure without revenue?

Where did you learn that from.

Too much good news these days are o make people happy.
But some people will still be sad.
No Be Juju Be Dat?
Depends on what you call good news....

Take for instance, you are an employer, and you tax your employees $50 from their salaries in 2020, and by 2024, you now tax them $350...
Is it an achievement to now tell us you are making gains from it??

What we should be seeing is the achievements made, how you have used the money reliased to better the life of your workers....

You can say that through the tax , you were able to reduce fuel pump price for them..

Through the tax, you channelled the money to transportation, there is now a new bus for them , that they should pay less now...

These are the dividends of the increased tax figures and not telling us the amount the tax has given you....

Wish you can be learned to now know what a good news can be seen as...

Is taxation the only means to generate Revenuehuh??......

Even taxation is the least means to generate Revenue, except for a dying decaying economy, that will be the only option left...

Becos Matthew the tax collector is on the throne.

An average Nigeria is finding it very difficult to afford one square meal on daily basis due to inflation, etc.

Amidst sufferings and hardship.

This is not a mark or sign of economic growth when more ppl are entering into multidimensional poverty!

The system is flawed. Despite the Federal Government's growing revenue, it's failing to deliver on its core responsibilities. These include:
1. Creating jobs and promoting entrepreneurship
2. Providing access to affordable credit
3. Investing in agriculture and food security
4. Implementing targeted social welfare programs (e.g., cash transfers)
5. Developing critical infrastructure (e.g., roads, electricity, schools, hospitals)
6. Ensuring transparent and accountable governance

These are essential measures to alleviate poverty, promote economic growth, and improve citizens' well-being. It's time for the government to prioritize the needs of its people and ensure that revenue is used effectively to drive development and prosperity.

The news was backed up with facts, you are still here frothing propaganda in the mouth.....govs across party lines have been singing for all to here how their states finances have improved under tinubu than was obtainable in previous admins, you close your ears to that and refuse to acknowledge.....even lgs are now raking in huge allocations some running into billions monthly,u are too blind to see that.....that's the problem with most of the people criticising tinubu, they are only subjective, hate filled wailers who are only in pain the man disgraced them in 23.
Hâte filled you say. Were you in Lagos when tinubu was governor. Was it not the say old bullshit of increased revenue and nonsensical igr that has little impact on the people but enough money for his cronies and himself to loot he keeps yapping about?

Do not blame me for not believing all these because the man tinubu has made trusting him hard.

They are many matrix to measure good governance other than increase igr.

Why isn't his government presenting those.

Headline Figures vs. Real Value: The VAT Illusion

Nigeria’s 84.6% jump in VAT revenue in 2024 isn’t necessarily a sign of economic progress — it’s largely a side effect of inflation and currency devaluation. When prices rise sharply due to a weaker naira, the same 10% VAT( using 10% for simple analysis) yields more naira in tax, even if no extra goods or services are produced.

It’s like an item going from ₦100 to ₦1000 overnight — the VAT triples in naira terms, but nothing new has been “added” to the economy. In real terms, the value of what government collects may actually be less.

True economic growth should be measured in real purchasing power and increased output, not just bigger nominal tax numbers. Without this context, celebrating higher VAT collections risks mistaking inflation-induced illusions for real fiscal strength.
