amnotapervert:There's no formula for all these things. I will give an example of all the red flags in my own case. 1. Used a sponsor 2. After sponsor transferred "living expenses" to my account, he has less than a million in his business account and less than 5m in his personal account. 3. I already have a b.sc and applied for Diploma. 4. Age was way way above 30. 5. Married with children and wife wasn't working and no mention of how wife and children will feed. 6. POF was lump sum and it lasted just 2 weeks in the account before account was printed. Upon all the "red flags" it was approved. I think it's just based on V O discretion |

I would recommend you show a complete 2-year living expense. mcsugk: |

destinychildolu:You see, I like when people share their personal experiences about how their case went — but sometimes the full context is missing. In your case, your sponsor transferred money for living expenses, but there’s no mention of how your school fees were paid. How much does your sponsor’s business generate each month? Your spouse gave you a gift deed showing they were sending you the money as a gift for living expenses, which is legal and makes sense. This explains the lump sum, since it came from your sponsor’s account. I’m sure your sponsor stated that the money sent to you was a gift, that they are not expecting it back, and that you will use it for your schooling and other expenses. Your sponsor sent that lump sum to your account to show they had handed the funds over to you as the student. The lump sum itself is not the problem — the issue arises when the money comes from an unknown account. I’m also sure your spouse provided their account statement to show the money was moved from their account to yours. Yes, visa officer discretion plays a role, but they also consider the dependants you and your sponsor have. There are many types of diploma programs offered by most colleges, and even within each program there are variations — so age is not really a factor. People have come with a B.Sc. and still applied for a diploma program. If you have a low 2.1 or a 2.2 CGPA, it won’t necessarily raise a red flag when moving from a B.Sc. to a diploma program. PR points with a diploma have limited chances right now, except in French, and I’m sure you want to give yourself the best possible chance for success after school. That’s why, right now, Badadvisor is frustrated — because he’ll have to marry his 150 kg white girlfriend for PR. Being married with a wife who is not currently employed and having children is not a red flag. Children back in Nigeria are actually an advantage, as they give you a reason to return (home ties )— more of a green flag. So, context is important. That’s why I said Proof of Funds (POF) can be tricky — always keep yourself in the best possible position. |

He reapplied on the 28th of July, 2025. For larger context, his first application was on the 6th of June, 2025 and was refused on the 21st of June, 2025 (15 days after). He applied for the GCMS notes which took about 30 days, according to him, the gmcs notes posited that the only reason his application was refused was because the source of funds of his sponsor was poorly documented even though he did GIC of a year's living expenses and had paid one semester tuition fee. Upon seeing the notes, he contacted his sponsor who provided further documents with additional bank statements showing how the sponsor raised his funds. He said he reapplied because the GCMS notes centered on the source of funds and he was sure that with further explanation with documents and bearing in mind that his first refusal came within 15 days/ upfront medicals, that he could get it this time........... destinychildolu:Could you please provide more specific details? What was the total amount in your account for (POF)? How many years is your diploma course? How much did you pay as your initial deposit for your school fees? What was the total tuition fee, and how much is remaining? Please let me know. |

Benjifiz36:Thanks for providing more context. To be honest, using the webform and waiting is the only thing that can be done for now. IRCC can be slow sometimes, and it’s frustrating. The only time I’ve seen them respond quickly is when someone is applying for a visitor visa — for example, a citizen applying for a visitor visa for their parents. In such cases, if IRCC is taking too long, the applicant can notify their Member of Parliament (MP), and the MP will contact IRCC on their behalf. Aside from situations like that, there’s very little — if anything — that can speed things up. Since this is a student visa application, the only realistic options right now are to use the webform and wait. |

mcsugk:Also, destinychildolu, what year was this study permit approved? Was it after 2024, when Canada started capping growth and reducing the number of new international student permits issued to approximately 360,000? Context is important — in order to reduce the number of international students, IRCC has become more strict. It was much easier to get a study permit in 2021, 2022, or 2023 with just the minimum required funds because IRCC was focused on increasing numbers. Before 2024, they would often overlook certain issues to boost international student intake. That’s why I said context is important https://study-permit.ca/canada-study-permit-stats/ https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/news/2024/01/canada-to-stabilize-growth-and-decrease-number-of-new-international-student-permits-issued-to-approximately-360000-for-2024.html https://www.statista.com/statistics/555117/number-of-international-students-at-years-end-canada-2000-2014/#:~:text=Number%20of%20study%20permit%20holders%20with%20a%20valid%20permit%20in,Embed%20this%20statistic%20(FAQ)

Benjifiz36:Thank you for the further details. Each application is considered on the basis of its merit and not related to any previous application. This new application will be reviewed by another officer as a new application and it will follow all the normal processes like the first. |

Hello, I got an admission for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manitoba. In addition to my admission, I have a GA/TA scholarship of $20,000 and another scholarship that is applied directly to my tuition of $7,500. After, I calculated my deficit, I needed around 15 million naira to be in my personal account as proof of fund. My dad would be transferring a sum of 20 million naira to my account as gift. However, the 20 million naira in my Dad's account also appear like a lump sum because they were deposited largely. Part of this deposit was two loans from a non-interest society (one 2m, and another 3m) that will also provide a letter of loan and repayment plan for the loan, which I will attach to my Letter of Explanation. The explanation for the other 15 million is that my dad sold cattles from his farm (to different people who sent the money to his account) and I will be attaching a picture of me and my dad with his cattles to show he has the cattles (this is the only way I can think of to proof this, please kindly guide me if there is some other way). Please note that I am married and I indicated in my LoE that my wife will be taken care of with the remaining 5 million from the 20 millions in my account and if otherwise, my family will be there for her (she is in her final year in school). Please note that, my Dad is originally a civil servant with a monthly salary a little bit above a million. Firstly, I wanted to know if my story is okay or what else I can do to position myself well to the visa officer. Secondly, I am quite confused on how to go about the gift of deed. Is it just a letter? Does it require notarizing? Does it require the presence of a lawyer? Is it to be done at the high court? I will be very grateful for any insight anyone can give me on my case. Thank you. |

Hello Everyone, I would like to thank JMG for his assistance and support in getting my Canadian study permit. To think I almost withdrew my application but he encouraged me while IRCC took their sweet time. They literally delayed my application for months because I didn’t attached a birth certificate ( I saw this on the officer’s note when I received my gcms notes a few days go). I attached NPC birth attestation but I guess that wasn’t enough. I proceeded to submit the same birth attestation and a declaration of age affidavit along side a letter of explanation via web form and I got the approval message the next day. I’m grateful and indebted to JMG for taking time out of his busy schedule to attend to my numerous questions and for helping me submit a strong application.

Hi everyone, I’m filling out the imm1294e form, and I need help with the section: Tuition | Room and Board | Other My tuition fee for my 1-year MEng = CAD 35,750 I received a USD 50,000 scholarship (~CAD 70,000 at current rate) from one oil and gas coy in Nigeria I also received CAD 3,000 from the university The scholarship covers both tuition and living expenses Question: What amounts should I enter for [ Tuition| Room and Board | Other ] in this section? Thanks in advance.

Gloriousangel:Congratulations, this is one of the weirdest reasons an application will be delayed as birth certificate is not even a requirement for the application, unlike PR. Good thing you saw that in your GCMS notes. How long did your GCMS notes take to process? |
