FG Unveils ₦10m 5-Year Loan Scheme For Tertiary Institutions Staff by TimeManager(op): 8:09pm On Aug 14, 2025
The federal government, Thursday, officially unveiled the Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF) for staff of tertiary institutions, including federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education and selected state-owned tertiary institutions.

Speaking at the lunch, Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the Fund will ensure a N10m interest-free loan for successful applicants, which will be repaid in five years, with a 12-month moratorium.

It offers loans of up to N10 million, capped at 33.3% of a beneficiary’s gross annual salary, for purposes such as transportation, medical expenses, and small business ventures like poultry farming. The scheme is being implemented in partnership with the Bank of Industry to ensure transparency and accountability.

He said through the TISSF, beneficiaries will have access to financing for medical support, transportation, vehicle purchase, small-scale enterprise and agriculture and academic advancement, including professional certifications, degrees and capacity-building programmes.

Beneficiaries are expected to use the loan to meet needs such as transportation, small-scale agro-business initiatives, medical expenses, family support, accommodation, and academic advancement.

“The TISSF is open to confirmed full-time academic and non-academic staff of any federal university, polytechnic or college of education, one state university, polytechnic and college of education in each state, applicants who must have at least five years to retirement, membership of relevant staff associations such as ASUU, NASU, COEASU and SSANIP is required.

Thanking the President for his approval of the scheme and other education-related interventions, Dr. Alausa said,

“The TISSF is another evidence of Renewed Hope in action. A demonstration of President Tinubu’s commitment to Education and support for its component parts, ” he said.

He likened the programme to the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a timely and much-needed support intervention for university, polytechnic, and colleges of education staff, academic and non-academic.

The Minister noted that the TISSF is a key component of the National Education Sector Renewal Implementation (NESRI) framework, which he is spearheading to revitalise the sector.

He noted that guard rails and a robust monitoring template have been established to ensure transparency and smooth implementation.

Somebody say Jagaban, in two years, Baba is fulfilling the Renewed Hope Agenda gradually. Madam Okonjo Iweala attested to it. Like the President always say, ignore detractors and naysayers and stay the course. God bless Nigeria.

This is absolute BS! Nigeria needs sweeping reforms like making legislative services to be a part-time role, shutting down of the useless legislative houses (preferably the senate) to cut the cost of governance and fortifying the EFCC to punish politicians for not keeping to their campaign promises.

Until then, Tinubu is just a jester and another time waster like the man before him. Nigeria cannot keep taking 2 steps forward and 6 steps backwards: we have been doing that since 1960.

Nice

Collect loan then then japa through land border grin

It would be much better if the loan is made only available to those government employees with less than 10 years before retirement

So if they want to go AWOL and forfeit their gratuities and contributed pension, that's their problem grin

It offers loans of up to N10 million, capped at 33.3% of a beneficiary’s gross annual salary.

For a lecturer earning 400,000 monthly

400,000 X 12 = N4,800,000

33.33% of N4,800,000 = N1,599,840.00

A lecturer earning 400k monthly is eligible for N1,599,840 ONLY

Can someone help me verify this calculation?

****** N400,000 divide by 3 = 133,333.33
133,333.33 multiple by 12(1 year) = 1,600,000.

1,600,000 x 5years (duration of the loan) = 8,000,000.

Someone earning 400,000 is eligible to 8 million naira.

So it means the person will be earning 266,680.00 every month after deduction of the loan. It has a one year moratorium. This means there is a one year grace period or loan holiday.

The smart ones will take the loan and do business or build house.

The western strategy of modern colonization is through DEBT.

It will get to a time u will be denied promotion because u are owing federal government.

You will be asked to repay ur student loan before u are recruited for NYSC or entitled to collect institution results or NYSC certificate.

And you think a democratically elected President can do that? I guess since it's not an Obi initiatives it cannot make sense.
