He Paid My School Fees, Now My Parents Want Me To Marry Someone Else by dilliond89(op): 11:11pm On Aug 14, 2025
I met James during my 200 level in the university. Back then, things were tough for my family — my dad had just lost his job, and my mum’s petty trading could barely feed us.

It all started when I was on the verge of dropping out because I couldn’t pay my school fees. James, who was just a casual friend at that time, noticed my mood one day and asked what was wrong. I told him everything, thinking he would just encourage me.

Two days later, he sent me the exact amount I needed to pay my fees — without even asking for anything in return. That single act of kindness changed my view of him completely. We grew closer, and before I knew it, we started dating.

Fast forward three years — I’ve graduated, done my NYSC, and James has been nothing but supportive all through. He’s always talked about marrying me, and honestly, I had no reason to say no.

But here’s the problem… my parents recently introduced me to a wealthy family friend’s son who just returned from the UK. They are pressuring me to marry him because, according to them, “he can give you a better life.”

I feel torn apart. This is the same James who stood by me when I had nothing. The same man who sacrificed so much for me. But now my family is threatening to disown me if I refuse the other man’s proposal.

Please… what should I do? Follow my heart and choose James, or obey my parents and marry the man they want?

Run far away to the moon to clear your head. Then, return back after clearing your head to tell your parents that they will not live your life for you.

Na WA for some parents oh...

TBH,I don't think you're at fault, and I wouldn't bash you nor your parents cuz I've regards and respect for elders as an urhobo man angry BUT,

Imagine forgetting all the sacrifices James made for their daughter just in a jiffy simply because a wealthy man's son just returned from the U.K simply shows the reason why these genz marriages of nowadays doesn't last longer than a 2 seconds manangry

Well,if James had known before now, that the future would be blurry just like it is now, perhaps he would have invested the money he spent on you on something else, even if it was Keke or Keke apart parts angry. By now,James would have been bigger than how he was....

Madam, you're not in love with any of them.
Just go for better offer (that rich guy your parent support), and then refund all the money the first guy has spent on you to have peace of mind.

Whatever happens to you afterwards blame your parent. Divinity always judge fairly before passing judgment, whosoever is found guilty always bear the consequences no matter their age.

James was way better positioned in your life than your parents.
He did what your parents could not do. Offered you a life your parents could not give you.

If you leave James, his goodness will forever hunt you.

Please marry for love and not to repay a debt. Also if you end up marrying for riches and not love, the same end is likely to befall you, i.e. regret.

Leave James and marry the rich guy, and also return the money James spent on you.

Talk to James first, he might just be trying to help you genuinely but na you attach yourself. If he agrees reach a settlement, if not go explain to your parents, if your parents says no , pray to God.

The honest truth is that nothing would happen to neither her nor her parents. Like someone wrote earlier "Simps would learn the hard way". That is a fact

James is the tragic hero here.

I felt for James.

He is more of your father....

I mean, he came through for you when even your biological father or mother could pull through...

James is Gold.

. Marry for love is the most useless reason for marriage. Most people only marryu because of love? what happens to compatbility, growth, sense, vision amongst others. I hate it when i c people say marry for love. Na only love dey
