dre11:The government’s “genius” idea is to wipe out trillions in debt, scrap subsidies, and then dump electricity bills on Nigerians that look like house rent while pretending it’s all for our benefit. These are the same people who can’t even keep refineries working, yet expect us to trust their “pay-as-you-go power” scheme. At this rate, even poverty itself is about to go prepaid. |

All these payments won't make power available in people's household. E.g AEDC don't have a single account where electricity consumption payments are being deposited into. Where department, division, Unit, and section the manager ha multipled account number for his division, and he'll decide which of the account he wants the money to be paid into. And when he's been transferred the next guy will supplies you with his multiple account numbers, and follow the same suit. What DISCO needs is Single Account Number (SAN) , if not they will keeping siphoning the money and company debt profile will keep on soaring higher DISCO needs overhauling of the entire system before FG can make any payments/ clear debt. |

What the government should do is upgrade Band A customers to a new category called Band A+. Customers in Band A+ would be guaranteed 24 hours of uninterrupted power supply and would pay an additional fixed charge—for example, ₦10 per 24-hour cycle—on top of their normal tariff. This fixed charge would only apply if the distribution company actually delivers 24 hours of uninterrupted supply. If they fail to do so, the charge should not apply and should instead roll over. Furthermore, if Band A+ customers experience an outage longer than one hour (excluding faults from the National Grid or TCN), the government should impose penalties on the distribution company—for example, fines of ₦10 million for every hour of outage. Band B customers should be upgraded to Band A, while only Bands C and D should continue to enjoy subsidy temporarily. This will cut the amount of subsidy significantly and cushion the effect of all these economic reforms on the very poor. |

Well, they may remove the subsidy ONLY if electricity consumers can control their consumption. That means, metering EVERY single consumer. Infact let it be made a crime for a power consumer to still be unmeterred. To remove electricity subsidy in this era where we are still majorly operating estimated billing is tantamount to man's inhumanity to man.. |

Nigeria! Lol! In as much as I don't trust any politician, and I know this government is very ruthless, but I must confess that it's the language over 98% of Nigerians understand. If you allow Nigerians, they don't mind connecting illegal lines so they avoid paying bills, and they want electricity 24/7. Most Nigerians would steal groceries if they had the opportunity...their motto are: "na where person dey work, person dey chop", and "everyone na business men, na the one dem catch be thief". Lol. If they don't remove subsidy, we will keep accumulating debts for who? For our children. This is the way out fathers and grand fathers accumulated it for us na. They enjoyed all and rhen destroyed it...they looted it all. So, the debts keep growing, and we want to keep passing them to who exactly? Lol. Whoever is gonna pay will do so in pain. Anyway, it's another story to clear some, and then, reloot them. Lol. Nigerians want to kill Nigeria by force. It's so hard to kill Nigeria, but Nigerians are so desperate to kill Nigeria. If not, why don't we make credible elections work? This is the only tool we have. They will point fingers at APC and the oga who told his thugs to "snatch it, grab it, and run away with it". But they won't say anything about oga who won the would of SE clean but videos surfaced where they were rigging it big time. And yesterday, we could see it too. Lol. And then, another oga dey use dollars win all primaries he has contested in. We know, but refuse to do anything. Mehn! Nigeria's head strong oooo. If not, the country suppose to don pafuka a long time na. Loll. |

MoneyMan5:Everyone will adjust, whether voluntarily or not, just like some of us already on Band A have. Total subsidy removal means everyone, not just Band A, will pay between ₦209 and ₦225 per kilowatt hour. People will rush and even lobby to get the so-called prepaid meters they have long despised once estimated billings where they live become Band A rates. |

Ur own is to make all money for government officials to squander and keep subjecting masses to hardship. Removing electric subsidy? Oga keep on removing every advantages that citizens can enjoy on his father's land and be claiming you are doing reform. |

Ensure every house has a prepaid meter before increasing the cost of electricity. For any house that the DISCOs fail to give prepaid metre, the bills for that house should be pegged to a maximum of N5,000 per month. Furthermore, the prepaid metres should be given out without any upfront payments or a maximum of 10% downpayment for urban areas and 5% for rural areas. The repayment should be made through deductions from credit purchases. |

ceejayluv:Prepaid meters seem to be in short supply... Interestingly, some Discos have it in abundance for some of their affluent location while it's very limited in areas that they consider fall short of revenue performance and the few that can afford to sort officials in such locations wrestle to lay their hands on the few available. |

Economies can't function without subsidies of some sort. The largest economies in the world are some of the most subsidized. China and the US pay huge subsidies to ease burdens of their population. Nigeria with its widespread adoption of IMF/Worldbank economic policies is making life unduly difficult for people. SpaceX and Apple are some of the biggest companies on earth and yet they pay no taxes. SpaceX particularly is heavily subsidized to stay competitive. Economic growth without subsidies of some sort is nearly impossible. |

epainos:How should the ruthlessness of the government be the language of the government to the people? Is there provision for that in the constitution or you think the government is doing the people of Nigeria a favour? You are saying “Nigerians”. Are you a Zimbabwean or Afghanistan? Who are the “we” that will keep accumulating debt? Who are the “us” that debt was left for? Do you have the same father and grandfather with every other person that you are saying “us”? Speak for yourself. How much is the debt your father and grandfather left for you? Can you give me a figure? What are government’s constitutional responsibility to the people of Nigeria? How well has the government been carrying out these responsibilities? If government is doing its job, will people circumvent processes? Tinubu, shettima, members of the national assembly, ministers, heads of the security agencies, governors, their commissioners even to as low as local government chairmen and their families all enjoy free feeding, free clothing, free accommodation, free transportation, free electricity, free security, free healthcare, free phone calls, free newspapers, free data, free fuel both at home and abroad. How come it is now subsidy that is being enjoyed by the citizens of Nigeria that is what will destroy Nigeria? If ogas at the top are not making sacrifices and are enjoying freebies, why then do you think that the citizens do not deserve subsidy? zicoraads |
