And so. Do Pastors not have the right to aspire to wealth? The Pope too is surely not a poor man. Aside from being the pope, he is the head of the Vatican. This Pastor should face his own ministry and calling. Are you supposed to be poor because you are a Pastor? Is the Pope a poor man? |

After listen to this man, I'm in opinion that EFCC should start inviting Nigerians pastors for questioning, how they get the money? What underground work they get involved to acquire the wealth? It seems it is not only Church, it get plus They should start from Oyedepo, Chris Oyakhilome, Adeboye ,Joshua Salmon and the likes |

Smartcitizen:Is Nigeria as a whole building institutions? You guys should check investments the foreign church the man mentioned. You can also check, the amount pope is collecting per month. In as much I blame Nigeria pastors, you guys should stop glorifying foreigners, as if they too are righteous or perfect. NB. IF CATHOLIC IS TO BE NIGERIA CHURCH AND THE G.O IS COLLECTING ₦45M PER MONTH, I IMAGINE HOW PEOPLE WOULD BE VILIFYING SUCH G.O.

VinnyBaba:Look, it is the right of everyone to live their lives the way they want. Judgement belongs to God only. It is the choice of people not to attend the churches, if they feel oppressed. I wonder all the time why they choose to talk of Pastors, leaving aside Imams and Alfas who live in complete opulence. Why should Pastors always be their examples? All those Sultans in the Middle East are among the wealthiest persons on earth. They never talk about them, but the Pope and Pastors. It is jealous Pastors like this man, who never gave peace, seeing the success of the ministries of others. |

Smartcitizen:Why not talk about the massive mosques built all over the country? What happens to then after their builders die? Why not talk about the Imams and Alfas there? Why are they not building institutions too? Or is Almajirism supposed to be the good life to live? Or are foreign Islamic missions not suppose to build good institutions in this country too? |

SmellingAnus:I think you are missing the point here...technically, the Catholic church is owned by the pope, because he oversees the activity of the Catholic church worldwide. However, unlike our Nigeria pastors who do not even think of succession. (Of which 90% are hypocritical), there is a succession plan in the event of the incapacition or demise of the pope. Just the other day, people were inquiring about the succession of a popular pastor of a very popular church in Nigeria. It been rumored that he is very ill and can no longer handle the pressure of the church. But he just pushed it aside.quite frankly, all these pastors are just exploiting their congregation. To crown it all, the Catholic church is universal... |

crusufixo:no, the Catholic church is not technically owned by the Pope, he is just the head of the Catholic Church... By the way that is not to say many of the Pastors in Nigeria have not taken advantage of their members... Many of the Pastors in Nigeria are guilty of manipulating members for their selfish interest and I am against it... As for the Catholic Church, they too have their own issues bothering on gay priests having gay sex/rape with minors but this is not the topic for discussion now... |

Stayingalive:Werey ni e. Some of you don'tthink. Every government is a reflection of the society it comes from. The same dysfunctional society that pastors were meant to help shape for the better. But no, they should be left alone—because, of course, ‘agenda must agend.’ |

BlessedGift:The common Nigerian is the most haunted breed on planet earth and might soon be an endangered specie. So many things are against the common man in this country. Pastors milking them, government taxing him, exposed to poor Medicare, insecurity bedeviling him etc. Money has a rule, the more it stays in the hands of few individuals the more poorer the ones without access to the main factors of production or "connection" gets poorer. NDIC recently said less than 6% of Nigerians have up to 500k and above in Bank deposits. That means tej rest of the money belongs to just 5% while 95% have just what to barely feed. That's the highest level of uneven distribution of wealth. Our poverty is artificial and designed to deliberately favour a few and enslave the rest to the whims and caprices of their so called masters. The billions these pastors makes comes from people's tithes, offerings , donations, fake contracts from government patronage, etc. All these takes from the poor to rich. This cycle of poverty cannot be broken cos it's cast in stone |

Roman catholic church has branches in Nigeria, you prefer music entertainment immorality to church and Christianity and don't mind seeing celebrities and players in luxury and wealth the only thing they add to your life is entertainment and probably bad influence like drug addictions and depression, societal moral breakdown and then you critise men of God who teach morality, faith in God ,Solution and cure for depression and libration from sickness and peace and salvation you term all miracles fake and amplify all mistakes Misinterpret all actions in other to justify yourself in wayward lifestyle. Or prove your faithlessness should a man of God whom God has called to heal or faith ministry live in poverty or can God not heal his people. Well eternity is laid in the heart of every man and only a foul will say in his heart there is no God although they are fake prophets and men of God have you even studied the word of God to Know them |

[do you really understand what it means for a church to be rich? author=Fiscus105 post=136484390]Nigeria church would definitely be, one of richest, the man is talking from angles of criticism. After Catholic, Anglican, African, and Seven day Adventist, which other churches that are richer than all these popular Nigeria churches?[/quote] |
| Re: Nigerian Pastors Among World Richest, But No Nigerian Church Listed - Omolehin by Iykenuwa(m): 12:22pm On Aug 17, 2025 |
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY Daniel Breakforth "Is it not scary that the World Council of Churches released papers about the state of the Nigerian church — that out of the 10 richest pastors in the world, five of them are Nigerians, but out of the 10 richest churches in the world, there’s no Nigerian church?” “It’s worrisome, it calls for concern.” “The Roman Catholic Church is the richest church in the world, the pope has no private jet.” Yesterday we addressed the issue of comparing the travels of the Pope by Alitalia with the travels of Nigerian pastors and we can now see that the cost of the Pope's trip annually can buy 4 private jets every year. Once the Pope returns after each trip the amount spent whether 55 million USD or more or less whether from the Vatican or host country is finished. However a private jet can last 20-30 years although some could last longer depending on make, model, usage and maintenance. Today we will be addressing the issue of 5 Nigerian pastors being among the richest. I must say that the points here will address only what we seek to clarify. The list of pastors mentioned in that address unfortunately is an old list which is both questionable and outdated. Here are the Nigerian names on the list: 1.Bishop Oyedepo 2. Pastor Enoch Adeboye 3. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome 4. Matthew Ashimolowo 5. T. B Joshua This list is questionable because it merged the wealth of the Churches it named with the wealth of the leaders in question and this is outrightly false. Anyone who mentions Faith Academy, Covenant University or even the aircraft owned by the Church as Bishop Oyedepo's properties is only trying to be smart while lying and being deceitful. This narrative is more faulty going by the implications. It is same as implying that Redemption City belongs to Pastor Adeboye, Love World Convocation Arena belongs to Pastor Chris or DLICC belongs to Pastor Kumuyi. The same list says Christ Embassy is worth 30 million dollars and automatically claims Pastor Chris is worth 30 million dollars Question Are we looking at the wealth of the Church or the individual? Why are the critics mixing both together? If we attach the wealth of much richer churches to the leaders, will this argument stand? Furthermore we have said it times without number that Winners' Chapel does not own 4 aircraft. We have given names of aircraft, registration markings and dates to this effect and showed that the claim by Forbes in 2011 was false but we will address this particular issue again at the end of this article. Secondly it is inaccurate to be quoting a list in 2025 which was written by a Nigerian in 2011 and includes a man who died in 2021 and hence the reason for our assertion that it is outdated. The list fails to realize that Nigeria is one of the fast growing areas of Christianity in the world and that the biggest churches in the world whose founders are alive are in Nigeria. If in doubt, point out how many churches in the world whose founders are still alive have churches with the growth and spread of Living Faith, Christ Embassy, MFM and Deeper Life. Finally, let's even address another salient point. Let's imagine that these 5 pastors are all alive and worth what was claimed by Forbes. The highest possible total amount owned by them as claimed by Forbes are as follows in USD: Bishop Oyedepo-150m Pastor Adeboye-65m Matthew Ashimolowo-10m TB Joshua-15m Chris Oyakhilome-50m Total -290 million dollars. So from the above list, the amount spent for the travel of the Pope for one year is almost same as this networth even though the Pope's name isn't mentioned to be as rich as any of them. Secondly and this might annoy many: There have been several cases of mismanagement in one of the richest churches in the world that one single deal by some officials of that Church is higher than the net worth of the richest pastors in Nigeria yet the names of the Church leaders names are kept secret by the Church. Recently leaders of this Church did a 350 million Euro deal and lost 170 million Euros. The Heavens did not fall. Read the story below as reported by the Church itself for context: Fund Mishandling and Reforms in the Vatican: The Vatican has had a history of money mismanagement ever since the Holy See’s inception. Many of these issues stem from the financial illiteracy of much of the Vatican leadership. In order to remedy this, leadership figures within the Vatican often give some of the Holy See’s revenue to funds and endowments with reputation, checks and balances, and other professional structures that guarantee the money is being invested in accordance with the Papal wishes. However, this remedy is something not always followed. The most recent and notable divergence from this strategy has been the 60 Sloane Avenue sale. Instead of giving money to a reputable fund or endowment, a group of Vatican officials gave 350 million euros ($390 million USD) to Italian broker Raffael Mincione in 2014 to buy a luxury apartment complex in central London. By 2018, the Vatican officials feared they were getting scammed by Mincione and turned to another Italian broker, Gianluigi Torzi, for help to get out of the first deal. However, the Vatican officials were allegedly deceived by Torzi into giving him voting shares for the property. As a response, the Vatican officials offered Torzi 15 million euros ($15.6 million) to retain the property and remove himself from the deal. In July 2022, ASPA sold the property to Bain Capital for 186 million pounds ($223.3 million), a $170 million loss. There is nothing wrong in being rich either as a Church or as an individual. Bible says and Abraham was very rich in cattle in silver and in gold. It also says and Abraham was rich and the Lord had blessed him in all things. Even if a Church buys 20 jets, it is bought for their assignment. The Church is answerable to God not you. #ChurchGist |
