Let’s hold our government accountable and let’s leave the church and promises of pastors.

Most men of God are profiting from the side effects of poverty and the mentality of prosperity in the country
How are churches and pastors helping the people to hold their local, state and federal government officials responsible, whether they are in the legislative or executive branch?

Do pastors, imams and other religious leaders have a responsibility for shaping the moral code of the society ??

In most of the posts and comments I saw above, unfortunately all I could see is frustrations, jealousy, ignorance, pride and deliberate mischief.
If the church is poor like to the popular saying, as poor as church rat, I know the many people speaking here would have balamed their God and accused them of laziness.
If it is easy to become billionaires by just starting a church, what stop many jobless wailers here crying more than the bereaved form a starting their own church, after all God does not belong to anyone in particular.
Stop and think, somebody who can legitimately support God's work with a billion naira , may not be a fool as a delusional mind of some people are deceiving them. They know something you don't know.
As long as some church leaders are not angels, there is room for little errors, but generalizing that for all pastors or criminalizing the entire church for it , is deliberate wickedness.
Despite, all the antics, falsehood and widespread online condemnation against the church and her leadership, is it not amazing that God is blessing and promoting the church?

Look, it is the right of everyone to live their lives the way they want. Judgement belongs to God only. It is the choice of people not to attend the churches, if they feel oppressed. I wonder all the time why they choose to talk of Pastors, leaving aside Imams and Alfas who live in complete opulence. Why should Pastors always be their examples? All those Sultans in the Middle East are among the wealthiest persons on earth. They never talk about them, but the Pope and Pastors.

It is jealous Pastors like this man, who never gave peace, seeing the success of the ministries of others.
As expected

Yes they do but holding government accountable will give us better yield

We are by law to pay task and country resources are allocated to them on a monthly basis for the development and security of the state

You’re aware your local government are the ones responsible for some road and infrastructure in your area?. Are you aware some hospitals, schools, market and bridges in local communities are simply the responsibility of your local government?

Now most of them are never in good condition, who is following up? Who is asking? Why are the people of the community not holding them accountable and asking how their local government allocation and task are spent?

How do we do that huh

Why not talk about the massive mosques built all over the country? What happens to then after their builders die? Why not talk about the Imams and Alfas there? Why are they not building institutions too? Or is Almajirism supposed to be the good life to live? Or are foreign Islamic missions not suppose to build good institutions in this country too?
So Christianity is now in competition with the world?

The salt and the light of the world?

Hmmm!

It has really gotten so bad.

Was this statement made out of emprical research? While the rich pastors may be true, the wealth of the chuches may be deeply investigated before conclusion is reached.

To me, one the richest churches in the world is the Living Faith Church in Nigeria.

The exchange rate of the Naira regardless.
there is no universally accepted concept of wealth. It varies.

I see misinterpretation of basic facts from the OP. The question should be "by churches scaling up their involvement in transport or travel, will it drive down average cost of travel for that church"?
Thats the main question to be answered and not why a catholic that's bigger in finances has no jets or poorer pastors. If those pastors are not wise and visionary like solomon plus rich, most folks around forming church supporter club will not fund them ooo.

Nigerian pastors are the richest in the world!

But none of their congregation is the richest like Dangote!
You people are just deceiving the gullible,
Many of the assets claimed to be owned by the pastor are owned by the church.
For example, pastor adeboye doesn't even own anything, the only one private he uses belongs to the church and the next general overseer will continue to use it.

Not really. Our law is to blame. In some countries, you can't setup church to collects funds and all becomes yours. It has to go into charity. Here government don't even bother to audit churches.

The rich wont fix the law. Those who profit from the system would do everything to ensure the system remain porous, it remain and breeds inequality and allows corruption.

The churches from day one were never tax to fix this. It was the government, they are with the money. They are with the power. If improvement need to happen. The people must take their government serious

There is no where I ever said it’s a one man. Quote me where I did say that.

By simply understanding who is responsible for what. How many people in their area even know what their local government is responsible for?

How many people even know the office of their local government?

Oh but we all know our worship centers….hmmm

In simply words ***the people*** has to take its government serious.

The people is not same as one man

Ok so beyond awareness and knowing the local government officials what next? We know them and they live amongst us. They ply the same bad roads that we complain about every rainy season. The people you are asking to hold them accountable will collect indomie and Omo during election and vote for them again.

So how do we hold them accountable beyond knowing them?

You said “we”.

If the same people collecting indomie are among the “we” then the ones who aren’t collecting are the ones left to decide what to do.

If they don’t then nothing can be done.

Like I said it’s not a one man job, if the affected don’t have the will power then nothing can be done.

If the affected wants to do something then I already gave a blueprint of the starting point

Hmmm 🤔. So why are the property used by only a selected few?

That argument does not hold. My verdict is men of God should imitate daily Christain living. Some live exceedingly luxurious lifestyle. If indeed they truely believe in “rewards is in heaven”, most won’t be leaving this greedily.

I rest my case

See the way you reason,
Do you expect all redeemed members to be using only one private jet that can't maybe hold more than 20 people at time.
Pastor Adeboye needs the jet to promptly visit parishes of redeemed church worldwide as the redeemed church is located in more than 190 countries.
Such privileges is reserved for the leaders and people working closely with him.
That's how it works every where, Nigeria presidential jets are solely meant for the president and those working with him and not for all the citizens of Nigeria.
Bank and head of companies that have private jet also don't use the private jet to carry all their staffs but only the top management
Another thing you don't know is that many prayers have good jobs before God calls them to resign and do his work.
For example, pastor Adeboye got PhD before he reached 30 years of age, he was already lecturing in prestigious university of Lagos before he resigned to take over the church after the demised of the church founder.
He resigned his job to become a pastor in 1970s when most pastors were living in abject poverty.
God blessed pastor for the sacrifice of obedience.
People like you don't know that to criticize,
If you think it's easy to gather people together and to become a pastor, go and start one

All the churches are not the same and they don't operate the same way.
Redeemed church was not established by pastor Adeboye So the church can't be given to his biological child.
If the founder didn't give the church to his child, pastor Adeboye too will not do otherwise

You’re talking of church yet you compare it with a typical businesshuh?? And you don’t see something off about that?

Well I never used pastor Adeboye I don’t know what you’re about defending him in particular. He has a phD and resigned and went to start church is his agreement with God and has nothing to do with the topic. Paul left everything he was doing and followed Christ. He wasn’t luxurious in anyway.
Luxury or no luxury isn’t even the consensus here.

The original topic was curious about why pastors are very rich yet poor congregation. The truth here is church cannot make people prosperous, can we all gather and agree?, even if that is spiritually possible that wasn’t what pastors and church is supposed to be about. It was suppose to be a by-product of hardwork, decisions and healthy living.

Can we Atleast agree that church is for the gathering of the brethren and the pastors are those as our leaders? Pastors aren’t our government, doctors, economists nor even accountant. Can we agree?

Or are you also part of those thinking the pastors can bless you in an economic with low GDP? And even if he does but not your neighbors? So you’re the only bless one in a lawless neighborhood?

Are you part of those thinking that a town with less than enough jobs and many jobless youth. That you will be miraculously within those few? While those who don’t know the same God go hungry?

Are you part of those who want to be prosperous and silently enjoy your wealth in a system sitting on gun powder of kidnapping and corruption?

Are you?
