I will be extremely grateful if any one can provide some insight in my case here sad
greatman2000:
Hello,

I got an admission for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manitoba. In addition to my admission, I have a GA/TA scholarship of $20,000 and another scholarship that is applied directly to my tuition of $7,500. After, I calculated my deficit, I needed around 15 million naira to be in my personal account as proof of fund. My dad would be transferring a sum of 20 million naira to my account as gift. However, the 20 million naira in my Dad's account also appear like a lump sum because they were deposited largely. Part of this deposit was two loans from a non-interest society (one 2m, and another 3m) that will also provide a letter of loan and repayment plan for the loan, which I will attach to my Letter of Explanation. The explanation for the other 15 million is that my dad sold cattles from his farm (to different people who sent the money to his account) and I will be attaching a picture of me and my dad with his cattles to show he has the cattles (this is the only way I can think of to proof this, please kindly guide me if there is some other way). Please note that I am married and I indicated in my LoE that my wife will be taken care of with the remaining 5 million from the 20 millions in my account and if otherwise, my family will be there for her (she is in her final year in school). Please note that, my Dad is originally a civil servant with a monthly salary a little bit above a million. Firstly, I wanted to know if my story is okay or what else I can do to position myself well to the visa officer.
Secondly, I am quite confused on how to go about the gift of deed. Is it just a letter? Does it require notarizing? Does it require the presence of a lawyer? Is it to be done at the high court?

I will be very grateful for any insight anyone can give me on my case.

Thank you.

Hmm. This might be complicated but good luck.

Another thing is, some programs may admit you into post diploma programs with just your 100-200lvl transcript if you have it.

Hello guys, it's been a long time on this page, I got my study visa in 2021, with the help of this platform and the seniors who still keep this place running. God bless you.

Please I have 2 Questions which I need help to clarify

1) Can someone on a work permit be a sponsor to a sibling

2) If yes, can the POF from just the sponsor be declared and nothing from the sibling

What i am trying to say in essence is that. The sponsor who is paying the school fees is the direct sister to the applicant, same surname. Can she just declare her account and everything needed from her without even bothering transferring the POF into the applicant's account ( money is in Cad, exchange rates will finish the money)
Note everything will be covered by the sponsor including housing.
Technically, yes, it is possible. A close relative in Canada—even if on a work permit (a sibling, in this case)—can act as a financial sponsor for a student visa application.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) does not restrict proof of funds to only the applicant’s account. They accept funds from parents, guardians, or close relatives who can genuinely support the applicant.

The key is that the relationship and financial commitment must be clearly demonstrated (e.g., sibling ties, letter of sponsorship, supporting documents).

Here is the reality:
The main issue is that you must show the full two years of tuition fees plus the $22,895 per year that the Canadian government requires international students to demonstrate. There are no exceptions, even if you live with your sibling.

So, on average, you are looking at annual tuition of about $19,252 (total $38,504 for two years) plus $22,895 in living expenses. That’s a minimum of $61,399 that must be shown as proof of funds.

https://www.studyincanada.com/Discover/Article/1/5468/International-Student-Tuition-Across-Canada

Ultimately, it’s about the money in your account, and your T4 tax return must align with the amount of savings you claim to have.

Read your story.
1. Your sponsor doesn't need to show their account if the money will be available in your account; you do a gift deed as indicated, notarize it, and show proof of source of income. You can do an invoice to back it up for his business; pictures in the farm are not just enough—that is cheap evidence. Also include your dad's employment documents.
2. Affidavit of sponsorship and notarize it. You don't need to state that the 2M and 3M were loans; it doesn't prove his business is strong. You can claim those funds as sales from castles.
3. Your wife will be left with your family, so they will look after her for you.

Hope you have considered living expenses before you conclude that what you need is 15M?

I am wondering how you got a GCMS note,i thought you can only get GCMS note when a decision has been made on your Application.
Because you stated that the reason why your application was delayed for months was because you didn’t submit your birth Certificate. They didn’t request for Additional Documents Required?

Send them a scratch card pin for them to check themselves. That’s how other schools do it.

Not all schools accept this. It can all be done from https://everify.neco.gov.ng/ costs N5000 per token. You will send it to the international admission email

You see, I like when people share their personal experiences about how their case went — but sometimes the full context is missing.

In your case, your sponsor transferred money for living expenses, but there’s no mention of how your school fees were paid. How much does your sponsor’s business generate each month?

Your spouse gave you a gift deed showing they were sending you the money as a gift for living expenses, which is legal and makes sense. This explains the lump sum, since it came from your sponsor’s account.

I’m sure your sponsor stated that the money sent to you was a gift, that they are not expecting it back, and that you will use it for your schooling and other expenses.

Your sponsor sent that lump sum to your account to show they had handed the funds over to you as the student. The lump sum itself is not the problem — the issue arises when the money comes from an unknown account.

I’m also sure your spouse provided their account statement to show the money was moved from their account to yours.

Yes, visa officer discretion plays a role, but they also consider the dependants you and your sponsor have.

There are many types of diploma programs offered by most colleges, and even within each program there are variations — so age is not really a factor.

People have come with a B.Sc. and still applied for a diploma program. If you have a low 2.1 or a 2.2 CGPA, it won’t necessarily raise a red flag when moving from a B.Sc. to a diploma program.

PR points with a diploma have limited chances right now, except in French, and I’m sure you want to give yourself the best possible chance for success after school.

That’s why, right now, Badadvisor is frustrated — because he’ll have to marry his 150 kg white girlfriend for PR.

Being married with a wife who is not currently employed and having children is not a red flag.

Children back in Nigeria are actually an advantage, as they give you a reason to return (home ties )— more of a green flag.

So, context is important. That’s why I said Proof of Funds (POF) can be tricky — always keep yourself in the best possible position.
There’s really no formula to this,
Just try and your best, then hope and pray, that’s al

My sister gifted me all the money for my POF
I gave zero explanation of how she makes money or even if she’s employed or her bank statement, nothing.
The money was in my account for only 1 week then i printed just 2 weeks bank statement.
The bank statement was 1 month old when i applied
I used the same money in that statement to pay tuition fees.
Had no wife (though i married after the visa was approved), just 3 siblings, parents are both dead, no landed property or even a car, just a business i registered 1 month prior to applying

From this you can spot at least 5 or 6 red flags, yet it was approved.
Another person may do this exact same thing and will likely be denied (or approved, who knows)

My wife applied for SOWP with only 3 million gift from her mom (This was when POF for main applicant was $10K, and she was a dependent)
My paychecks was only $600 at that time, money enough to pay for only 1 room ( not apartment) in my city.
No explanation how her mom made the money, no bank statement, printed only 1 week bank statement, still approved.

However, my first application was denied because i couldn’t fit all my files in the letter without compressing and my bank statement becoming blurry. So i uploaded the bank statement to google drive and put the link in the letter, i was denied because of that as per my gcms notes.
BUT
I got this link idea from a friend who did the exact same thing and was approved.

Try my school. It’s a two year program. But tuition is very cheap.
My course was 11kcad for a year.

Good day everyone, I saw NBCC courses are affordable, but I am interested in Cybersecurity course. I’m a lawyer transitioning into tech. I would like to study a year program to enable me to qualify for a three-year PGWP. I want to know the process and how to go about it please. Looking at May/June or September, 2026 admission. Thanks
