Going by the fake news being peddle by some bloggers, the new tax regime as it pertain PIT is as follows.

For personal income, the newly proposed tax rate is a progressive system, which means higher earners will pay more taxes while low income earners pay less or none as the case may be.

The rates are broken down below

- First N800,000: 0% tax rate, which means individuals earning below this threshold are exempted from paying personal income tax.
- Next N2.2 million: 15% tax rate
- Next N9 million: 18% tax rate
- Next N13 million: 21% tax rate
- Next N25 million: 23% tax rate
- Above N50 million: 25% tax rate.

The new tax system aims to reduce the tax burden on low-income earners and ensure fairness in wealth distribution.

For companies income tax, currently you start paying CIT as long as you have an annual turnover of N25million. However, the new tax bill has raised this to N50million to ensure that small businesses grow efficiently before they start paying tax.

As President Tinubu stated, there is no need to tax the seed anymore in Nigeria, the fruit which has reached maturity is the goal.

The overall goal of the new tax bill is to ensure that low income earners are appropriately protected while high income earners pay their dues accordingly thereby redistributing wealth proportionately to accelerate growth, reduce inequality and bring down inflation.

Also important to note that the era of multiple taxation will be coming to an end as tens of taxes which citizens pay across different levels of government have now been reduced drastically to a single unit thereby reducing the burden of unnecessary and excessive taxation.

The withholding tax on T-Bills remain. Gov't Bond remain tax exempt.

I greet you all.. It is no longer news that Tinubu's govt is working hard to broaden our tax network as from January 1st 2026 to all Nigerians, and ensure every Nigerian earning above 800k yearly pays personal income tax (PIT)

Are they also going to tax interest earned from treasury bills investments or dividends from bonds?

Someone with deep knowledge should please enlighten us all.

Thank you very much Sir, God bless you for the info... We like the idea of increasing our tax base in Naija, we pray govt will use the funds judiciously, build critical infrastructures and fight corruption to a standstill.

Massive corruption in our govt institutions and extravagant govt spendings are the major factors that would discourage most Nigerians from paying their taxes.

You’ve made a very valid point. The fight against corruption cannot be left to government institutions alone, it requires the active involvement of citizens at every level, be it Local, State or Federal. When people speak out, demand accountability, and challenge poor service delivery or mismanagement, it puts pressure on public officials to act responsibly.

Indeed, social media and other platforms have given us powerful tools to expose malpractice and draw attention to issues that may otherwise be ignored. Whether it’s raising concerns about substandard projects, inefficiency in public services, or misuse of resources, every voice counts.

Good governance thrives where citizens are vigilant, informed, and courageous enough to hold leaders accountable. By consistently engaging and demanding transparency, we can collectively push the nation toward true progress

You should be looking at long tenored FGN Bonds, different from Savings Bonds.

But that amount won't be enough. So you'd be checking brokers and banks for secondary market rates.

Whats your motive of investing? Some fd can provide interest upfront. We can talk better
Which other fixed deposit banks pay upfront and what's their interest rate ?
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Jane111: 10:41pm On Aug 19, 2025
It is a new product so I am not sure if it is on your app. You can simply walk into any branch of Access Bank and tell them you want to invest in their new Money Market and fixed instruments. It operates like fixed deposit.

Stop rate which is same as discounted rate. You get interest upfront.

The true yield is rate assume you are taking interest at maturity

Rates are going back up because FPI are slowly leaving the economy.

First, they were pulling money from the capital market and joined the Stocks rally, As at today, Nigeria stocks are showing signs of corrections.

It's FPIs dumping the stocks, CBN don't want their money to leave the economy yet, that's why Tbills is showing signs of upward trend, trying to woo them to stay in the capital market.
