I am compel to write this post because of some certain post i saw last week "things you regret not doing in early in life" "things ur 30 year old self will tell ur 20 year old self" in my opinion they are all bulsh** cos we are meant to make mistake abi Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards. My only pain which i cant call my regret... is my parent not having the fore sight to groom or build me for what i am to face, example my mother enrolled me in a computer school in my early 20s after my dad demise, which wasn't bad (respect to her fore sight) learnt a skill in my late 20s. but this post isn't about me, it about my son. I intend to prepare him for what lies ahead, there are only 3 things i want him to learn...(i stand to be corrected). No 1. He must learn a skill, at his early teen age No 2. He must understand financial literacy....i don"t know how to do this but i believe my igbo brothers can help me with this, if na to do boy boy for 3yrs i dont mind, (mind you i be yoruba i no send tribal bigot) No 3. he must know how to cook cos i no carry last for that one he is only 4 let him enjoy his childhood feel free to correct me |

Also teach him what NOT to do - like mostly keep him away from Social Media Meanwhile this your statement below doesn't make any sense. Can you please explain how exactly your parents did wrong so others can learn: "My only pain which i cant call my regret... is my parent not having the fore sight to groom or build me for what i am to face, example my mother enrolled me in a computer school in my early 20s after my dad demise, which wasn't bad" |

shegs2009:Add a #5 & #6 there. #5. Teach your son to do chores the same as your daughters—no human is above doing household chores — and to expect to do them even after he eventually gets married #6. Teach your son to respect all humans—women, and children included —the same way he would like to be respected by them. ![]() You, as their father, can start by teaching them through your example right there in the home, to make it easier for them to continue on when they leave home. ![]() The world as we live in is fast-moving away from the old entitlement mentality of our grandparents and fathers. The world is becoming more human rights-driven— those with higher social and emotional intelligence will decide and rule over the others. Your children need to be ready to fit in well with the world outside of your home. ![]() |

shegs2009:Oh ok, you were overly protected. I notice people usually fault their parents for this. Quite ironic |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by DoctorStanley: 1:33am On Aug 21, 2025 |
Kobojunkie:Quite good. But what exactly do you mean by "emotional intelligence"? Do you mean spirituality or religion? |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by DoctorStanley: 1:36am On Aug 21, 2025 |
shegs2009:But really, no matter what you teach him... I mean what do you think they thought Bola Tinubu. Yet today he is president! |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by Kobojunkie: 1:48am On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:Emotional intelligence has to do with one's ability to clearly identify, understand, and adequately manage one's emotions as well as those of others. ![]() 2. Absolutely not! ![]() |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by DoctorStanley: 2:53am On Aug 21, 2025 |
Kobojunkie:Oh ok. Why "absolutely not" about religion?😅 Oh I just opened my first thread ever on Nairaland in health section (my field). Go and be first to comment ![]() |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by Kobojunkie: 3:08am On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:Tradition/Religion is typically not associated with high emotional intelligence. Most of those who subscribe to these schools either believe in denying their emotions or suppressing them, leading to low emotional intelligence overall. So, when talking of emotional intelligence, it is quite removed from religious gobbledegook. ![]() |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by DoctorStanley: 3:17am On Aug 21, 2025 |
Kobojunkie:So you don't believe in spiritual intelligence? Don't you think there is something higher than emotional intelligence? |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by Kobojunkie: 3:21am On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:1. Well, start by explaining to me how you define spiritual intelligence. There are so many takes on the subject that it ain't easy at all to keep up. ![]() 2. There are over 4000 deities out there; which is the source of your particular spiritual intelligence? ![]() The vast majority of those who pretend spiritual intelligence are individuals who don't understand their own mental and emotional self, and are typically also lacking in the social department. If they do not understand their very own being and existence, how can they be believed to have this spiritual intelligence you speak of? ![]() |

Kobojunkie:From the Bible. They may not know by themselves but biblical explanations make it clear |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by Kobojunkie: 3:26am On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:The same book where the God described proclaimed that His one and only people are those descended from the bloodline of Jacob, the man whom He named Israel, right as He declared Himself YHWH, God of Israel? ![]() Come on naw... are you sheeting me? ![]() |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by DoctorStanley: 3:37am On Aug 21, 2025 |
Kobojunkie:But he also said there's no other god |

It's also very important you enrol him in self-defense classes ala boxing or any other martial art. E get why. |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by Kobojunkie: 3:42am On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:YHWH instead said, to His Israelite people, that there is no other God besides Him, implying that He alone is the God of Israel— God over Israel. ![]() YHWH also made other statements comparing Himself to the gods of the other people —non-Israelites. This is found throughout the Old Testament texts written by Israelites. So, If YHWH acknowledged the existed of gods in other lands, why do you deny this aspect of His sayings? ![]() |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by shegs2009(op): 6:52am On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:, yes made me reserve, and someone once told me if we are sent to new place with no resources he will excel faster than me, i cant help but agree |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by DoctorStanley: 10:19am On Aug 21, 2025 |
Kobojunkie:He said what they worshipped were false gods, sometimes made with their own hands. That HE ALONE was the only one true God and their was no other God anywhere besides him, wether amongst Jews or amongst gentiles |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by Kobojunkie: 2:05pm On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:He said they were false gods even as he acknowledged them. So, what? 🥱🥱 2. Yet He is referred to as God of gods? 🥱🥱🥱 And by the way, why are you, a Nigerian, pretending this YHWH, God of Israel, has something to do with you, when He didn't even have anything to do with the Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Greeks and the Romans of that time? ![]() |

| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by DoctorStanley: 4:25pm On Aug 21, 2025 |
Kobojunkie:We are all gods - the Bible says as much He is my God because he is the creator - the ONLY one true God |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by Kobojunkie: 4:38pm On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:1. When did you become a god? Where in the Bible are you told that you are a god? ![]() 2. How can He be your God when He said He is God only of Israel — according to YHWH, Israel is His only inheritance in the land of men? ![]() |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by DoctorStanley: 4:47pm On Aug 21, 2025 |
Kobojunkie:Check out Psalm 82:6 and John 10:34. He never said ONLY of Israel |
| Re: Grooming My Son To A Man by Kobojunkie: 5:01pm On Aug 21, 2025 |
DoctorStanley:1. The second verse makes reference to the first verse. And the first of the verses you referenced is as so. 5 “The ‘gods’ know nothing, they understand nothing. They walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.Am I to conclude from this that you are just like the false gods described by YHWH then meaning they are also gods only they are considerred false by YHWH since they too are described as knowing nothing and walking in darkness by Him? 2. He did actually in Deuteronomy 32. 7. Remember the days of old; consider the generations long past. Ask your father and he will tell you, your elders, and they will explain to you.According to His messenger, He alloted Himself Jacob as His inheritance; Edom/Esau is not His inheritance, nor are all others. His inheritance is what the above statement implies. ![]() |
