The whole point of the visa is to search for a job in germany and the german government really doesnt care if you get a job or not as long as youre giving the country your money its a win for them.

Its then up to you the person whos applying to do all the research before you go there.
1. Is the job market for my profession good? Eg is it in ( Tech, medicine) which are good or is it in ( law, business, psychology etc) which are generally bad

2. How big of a deal is knowing german in my profession? Is there alot of international companies that dont prioritize german? For example medicine, nursing, etc require high german knowledge.

3. What city is the best for me? Based on my budget and job market there? What city makes the perfect correlation for that? I see most people picking berlin, which in reality theres too much competition there.

4. How long can i survive in the country with my own money without completely draining my bank account? So ideally you would want to stay minimum 6months to have a chance of getting a job. Can you do that? Would it be better to stay in nigeria for awhile while searching for a job then go to germany if i am getting interviews? Maybe?

5. For the part time 20hrs per week that youre eligible for with the opportunity card. What type of job are you willing to do? This is where i know nigerians have big ego even though theyre struggling lol, are you willing to wash plates? Work in a farm? Clean houses? Etc

These are just some examples i am giving you guys, theres much more that i cant list all of them, i have been to germany for internship and i have been in europe for 6 years, its not easy you have to work hard and plan ahead, germany is also known to be hard to find housing there unless youre willing to pay alot. Anyways guys goodluck, try to think and plan ahead very well because how well you plan on this could be the decider if its a trap or not.
Thank you guys(digilexsolution, Diceman8 and Hannaiah) for your candid view points on this platform. It's very crucial to understand both side of the coin, plan and then take a personal decision.

Please, Based on your experience on ground:

1. While outside Germany, What are the most feasible job platforms that stand better chances for Job applicants(e.g IT) from this part of the word?

2. Are there dedicated provisions/agencies/platforms that support opportunity card holders(like they use to have in portugal)?

1. Linkedin and indeed are pretty much the best places you can search from outside germany, but getting a job from outside the country is extremely hard because you either have to stand out with like 10+ years experience and are still young or you have some connection there that can help you. The opportunity card in theory should make it easier to find a job as long as youre in a good job market and have some experience under your belt as it does not require "sponsorship" to start working.

2. Theres a website called chancenkarte jobs thats supposed to be released like months ago but its still not up. https://chancenkarte.com/en/candidates/ you can pre register its at the bottom of this page. "Remember chancenkarte.com is not linked to the german government" so its nothing official

Hello all, @Hannania and the others, thanks for all you do. Please I’d like to know the duration for preliminary review. It says one week on the website, but I suspect it may be more. I uploaded for preliminary review on the 12th, got a comment on the 14th saying they don’t see a reason on the declaration of commitment, I responded referring them to where it was written on the same day. But I haven’t gotten any response yet (today is 21st). Please advise if you know someone with a similar duration. Thank you.

please I’m asked for phone number when searching for work from here, and most times I’m asked for German address and phone number. What do I do
If the requirement is to be present in Germany, don't waste your time, because German recruiters are funny. You can use the phone no. Of your friend who is in Germany and his/her address, then the person can pick the call on your behalf

They're trying to verify it. It's possibly a delay from the ausländerbehörde of your city. So juts chill. As long as it's real and not fake, you're good to go. It's still one week because you got an initial a reply in 2 days. Which city is that ?

Thanks Diceman8 for the insight. Could really be tough. Imagine 10+ years exp but still young(maybe no growth): like the case of a pound of flesh , but no blood. LoL. You are also right with chancenkarte jobs. pre-registered for almost a year now, nothing is happening there.

Go through the thread, all these things are answered. You need 26, 000 euros(36m) to open two block accounts for you and your wife, or get a sponsorship letter. Public health is not on anabin, so she needs to do ZAB. Your computer science is recognised
Like I said I don't have a tech skill yet irrespective of my qualifications (BSc Computer Science (UNIZIK) and MSc Information Technology). Between me and my wife that is into Health related field (Diploma Community health, Bachelor Public health a d master of public health Epidemiology) also currently working with an NGO with over tears experience. Who has the chance more to be the primary applicant for the German opportunity card?

Thanks for all you do
God bless you

Also since my wife is using masters, should I access other documents with a fee too?

Also we are not so sure of this date they are asking. End of studies and date of graduation

The opportunity card has no primary applicant, you both have to apply individually. If you’re using the point system ( you don’t have a recognized degree or so) one of you would receive a point applying as married partner(spouse).

Please what do you mean if we dont have a recognised degree? Her Degree and University is not listed in Anabin. My degree is listed but my university (UNIZIK) is listed. What do I do please ?

Also can you emphasize what you mean by we both have to apply Individually? No option of a primary applicant and accompanying family, like myself we are family of 4. My wife and I plus 2 children. Can I be guided please on how best I will go about this.

May possibly apply for a PhD in Germany then if that will be easier for all of us to relocate.

Will appreciate any guide pls

You have to apply for the opportunity card individually, meaning submit and get your documents access as a person not as a family with primary applicant and dependents. Meaning you have to have a blocked account or sponsorship letter for each of you, I think minor children can accompany parents tho, someone can help clarify this.

You need to get your wife’s degree recognized by Zab if it’s not on Anabin, Same with you. Read through the thread to get details on the application.

Good day everyone, I’m so grateful to everyone that has given the time to help people with information here, God bless you all🙏🏽.
I’ve followed the thread from the beginning, but just to be safe and for clarity, if I don’t have most of my documents available yet because they are being processed (degree cert, birth cert, transcripts, SL etc), would it be safe for me to just upload my passport in all the fields first in order to enter the waiting list? Would I be allowed to delete it and upload the right documents before the final preliminary review? I’d appreciate your guidance, thank you 🙏🏽

There's no higher preference. As long as you meet the requirements as a skilled worker, all you need is proof of funds via SL or BA and you're good to go

You gave a perfect analysis to this. I love the fact that you stated it exactly how it is so people would be guided and know what to expect as opposed to those that sell dreams that don't exist because they either wants traffic on their pages or do business.

I'm also in Germany and see a lot of people stranded on an opportunity card because they can't get a job and most companies like Amazon, Tesla and co, won't allow them take up menial jobs because they feel the visa is not meant for that purpose (Even if it was stated clearly that people on opportunity card can do Menial part-time jobs)

Worse part it's just one year but I heard renewable with another block account. *DISCLAIMER* Please this is not to discourage anyone from coming but just make you guys know what to expect when you enter Germany.
Goodluck to everyone!!
You've done really well my bro.

Is it enough to use the jobs-in-demand list to have an idea of the demands of the job one intended to go and do? I think they call it bottleneck occupations or something.

It would also be nice if we have those who have entered through this route enlighten us about life there using their own experience. It will enable people learn from the different experiences shared.

Kudos to all of you helping us here.

Hi Everyone,

Please has anyone who started application in May been called, My waiting period changed from 2-6 months to 2-8 weeks around early July and I still haven't gotten my preliminary review invite and my SL expires by October because it was done in April (I understand it's only valid for 6 months).

Not sure what next to do or if to reach out to the embassy

Last update we had was from someone named "victory" about a week ago he said theyre currently in april 18th with the preliminary review. So theyre 100% not done with april yet. May 1st is probably about 2-4weeks away minimum.

Hello please I got this information under my birth certificate after my preliminary review
„ Kindly include on this page a declaration of age sworn by one of your parents at the High Court. Upload a picture ID with signature for the declarant.“

Please what does this mean if anyone has seen a similar issue and what can be done

Because I’m doing an affidavit and I will upload a picture of my mum’s id alongside the affidavit
Re: Migrating To Germany For Free : The Chancekarte Discussions by victorygiven: 8:39am On Aug 25, 2025
It means tell your mom or dad to go to court and do a declaration of age on your behalf then include an ID of the person , like international passport, driver license or work ID showing the person signature, it must tally with the one in the declaration certificate, pls When did you submit for preliminary review and how long did you hear from them for the correction?
