Let Tinubu try it small I wan check something. They will abuse the hell out him. Instead of him banning it, let him tax the hell out of the betting app and company. Let the betters feel the heat. grin

Well, betting is a matter of choice, not as if you’re being forced to play it. It is people that will take money from their banks then walk into a sport bet center to play bet..

Me for example, I don’t play sport bet. I don’t even play anything gambling games at all..
I guess they should also allow hard drugs well, since it's a matter of choice like gambling.

Nigeria should do the same. Gambling is destroying our youths. Giving them fake hope and dumping them.
??
And you forgot the millions of job it has created.
In Nigeria, we have at least over 100k betting shops out least with at least three cashiers. That's roughly above 300k cashiers plus the owners and betting staff. What about the thermal paper dealers? What about data service providers? What about the network engineers and maintenance staff. You guys don't know thar betting has created more jobs than any other business except may be POS business.
Before you ban betting in Nigeria, create an alternative or your type will cry more when those mentioned above go into banditry, kidnapping, stealing, cultism and drugs.
The rule is to gamble responsibly

Gambling is addictive and destructive.

I will not be against banning it.

The detrimental resultant effect of creating an environment for such an option, gambling to be a choice is what the Indian government wants to take out.

One of Austin Jay-Jay Okocha's legacy to our Nigerian Youth is gambling.

It's not a matter of choice

It's forced on people, especially young people through their aggressive marketing and promotions

For a start

Government should ban all form of betting adverts and promotion on all forms of mainstream media and outdoor advert

Even FM stations now engage in one form of gambling project

This is bad

This is reverse thinking

Does the end effect of betting justify the job creation means

Betting as destroyed lives, physically, morally and spiritually

What value does betting adds to the society except addiction
Re: India Passes Law To Ban Online Gambling After Billions Lost To Betting Platforms by nightsaint(m): 1:30pm On Aug 24, 2025
Yes betting is a matter of personal choice but then so is drug use. If the government makes laws against use of hard drugs then the government can also make laws to protect citizens from these betting facilities.

How do you ensure responsible gambling without enabling legal framework? For instance, we as asked to drink responsibly, right? But then there are legal mechanisms of ensuring that we do so. If you drink and drive you can be arrested. So how does the law ensure that we bet responsively in Nigeria?

Drugs is a matter of choice but the addictive nature and consequences makes its use illegal. Gambling has destroyed Nigerian youths even more than drugs. The companies are all out to exploit the people and they are taking advantage of the poverty and desperation of the people. Laws like these are what our lawmakers ought to be pushing and fighting for and not seating arrangements.

A country with rational law makers.

An adult deserves the freedom for betting. But when betting undoubtedly becomes an exploitative platform, the government is supposed to do something to save the citizens.

But in Nigeria, the government will rather quickly ban social media than ban betting. This is because, betting does not affect politicians but social media can work against politicians.
.
..
Be fast to listen, but slow in response & typing...
..
Your Indian 'rational' lawmakers didn't ban gambling in India, they only banned it on Online platforms..... Thereby reducing its negative effect to some extent..

..
Did it occur to you that your 'irrational' lawmakers here may have put in the laws & monitoring system to guide against what happened in India??...... Or as black, you people & your lawmakers don't ever do anything right?? Huh

The writeup referred to Fantasy Betting which you can't find their agents on ground not Sports Betting that's usually regulated in most countries Nigeria inclusive.

These your assumptions makes Nigeria where we are . You are right but not all human and men have matured mind to choose rightly as you said . Everyone is free for their choices but no one is free from the consequences of their choice which may not end negatively only on the person but other poeple . This Is the reason I welcome it for the government to intervene on how we do things .
an adult that cant manage his urge is a child same person can molest a minor, the government should not think for you we not running communism here, before the advent of present day gambling it was in existence and was done in a brutally crude way eg eleba that is dice, table tennis, cards, pool etc i was born and grew up in getto lives were lost when they feel short changed.

my point is you cant end all vices committed by an adult you can only reduce, regulate and manage it.

If we don't act now in our country, the next generation will suffer badly. Gambling ruins lives and should be completely banned in Nigeria. If Tinubu's government can do this, future generations will be sing his praises. This is my little piece of advice.

Remember that millions of jobs would also be lost.

Make sure you are creating jobs before banning that, else, crime rate would increase.

If bet was banned in Nigeria tomorrow, expect loss of jobs, crime rate would increase, cultism, kidnapping, obtainers and fraudsters.

The same people saying it should bet banned would also cry when the negative effects happen.
Your stance is why society degenerates and is soon irreparable. 'Crime rate will go up', that's what we hear whenever moral laws are about to be enforced. But what we cannot deny that moral laws stabilize and preserve the conscience and ethics of a nation.

China with its huge population manages to retain sanity only because of its firm moral codes. India has a staggering population. Financial ruins, resulting from this same betting, will in fact worsen the crime rate you are advocating against.

Every turn you make in Nigeria presently leads you unintentionally to a bet shop, kiosk or stand. You think it's okay? No ill wish intended, but when it touches home you will have a different opinion. Many parents and wives wish the government shut down these financial sinkholes littering every nook and cranny.
