Negotiations underway to get deal done as #WWFC want new striker asap.

Talks ongoing with player’s camp, as @LiamKeen_Star reports.

those players played against prime Ronaldo de Lima, Ronaldinho, Kaka, Denilson, Ze Roberto, Rivaldo, Robinho, Batistuta, Aimar, Shevchenko, Henry, Owen, Rooney, C. Ronaldo, Messi, Ribery, Romario, Ibrahimovic, Eto, Martins, Walcott e.t.c..

the strikers and wingers from 20 years ago were much more technical and deadly than today's wingers which means the defenders from 20 years ago were also better than today's defenders...
You guys keep repeating the same thing but avoid the basic point.

The reason why the players of the past looked more technical is because there was a huge gap in quality. They were playing against unfit players.

Today players are faster, fitter, more technical, and more tactical. Even goalkeepers are now skillful, technical and tactical.

Your prime Ronaldo, Kaka, Ronaldinho will not skip past players today as they did in the past. The quality of the game has changed.

I have given the yardstick.

Faster
Fitter
Tactical acumen.

Unless you are saying the players of the past are better in these indices, then you have no point to argue.

Maybe Uche has stamina because it is now the new oil for strikers. Most people want strikers that can press with high intensity.

If Uche can offer that, he can be pure gold.

Taribo will not know jack when it comes to tactics when you compare his understanding to Ekong for instance. As in nothing. You guys don't even understand the tactical advancement that has taken place in football. Do you think Taribo can try Calvin Bassey in tactical understanding, speed?

I used the term effective.

This ties to the speed, fitness and tactical acumen. When it comes to these, KDB rules.

Zidane was more skillful, gracious and his one on one play was just out of this planet. KDB can't come close.

However, for today's football, I won't hesitate to pick KDB over Zidane because of the current demands for intensity and fast decision making.

There is a context.try to understand it.

Instead of you to read the room, you go ahead to score a cheap post with an IG post which rebounds on your face after the world's most popular journalist misconstrues it.

You now have to go even cheaper by posting DMs of your chat with the said journalist to prove a point, indirectly blacklisting yourself from further reporting by that journalist. All cos of a lack of professionalism

In other words, proving that the world was right about your unprofessionalism.

Lies!!! Big fat lies that today's players are fitter, faster, more technical and more tactical than players of the previous generation.

There's a story I read about Zidane talking about Serie A that they'd train till players get retched up and feel like vomiting. Continue in your delusion.

Football tactics have changed a lot since Taribo West's time. The role of a central defender has evolved from being just a physical, no-nonsense tackler to a player who is also a key part of the team's offense.

Taribo West's Era (Old-School Defending):

Focus: Taribo West was a classic "stopper." His main job was to aggressively man-mark a specific opposing striker, winning duels, and clearing the ball away from danger.
Tactics: The game was more individualistic in defense. You focused on your opponent and your primary mission was to prevent them from scoring, often with physical force. Ball skills and passing from the back were not a priority.

Ekong's Era (Modern Defending):
Focus: A modern defender like Ekong must be a "ball-playing defender." His role is not just to defend, but to also start attacks from the back.
Tactics: Modern football emphasizes building play from defense. Ekong is expected to:
Start attacks: He needs to be comfortable with the ball at his feet, make accurate short passes to midfielders, and even hit long, diagonal passes to wingers.
Positional awareness: Instead of just man-marking, he operates within a defensive "zone," understanding where to be to cut off passin[
g lanes and cover for his teammates.
High press: He must be able to push up the field with the team to "press" the opponent and win the ball back high up the pitch, a tactic that was less common in West's time.
In short, while Taribo West was a master of the "defensive warrior" role, Ekong operates in a more complex and demanding tactical system that requires a wider range of skills, particularly with the ball at his feet.

You are posting of that old school era. What they thought was intense fitness is a joke when compared to today.

Do you think Ronaldo de Lima and Adriano can touch Lewandowski and Ousmane Dembele in fitness. I said touch. If you do, you have not even started understanding the modern day gap of football.

Shouting lies will not change the truth.

If you want to research, look into comparison into the tactical and fitness gap between today's football and that of the 90s and 2000s. I bet you, you will not find one professional footballer or coach that will say the past players were fitter, faster or tactically more sound than modern day football.

PSG inter Milan hammer is team work and not individual.

What you guys don't understand that even Kvaratskelia is fitter, faster and stronger than Ronaldinho. He is more a team player tactically sound, gives defensive contributions than Ronaldinho.

Think. Guardiola asked for Ronaldinho to leave. Have you thought for a second Why? Give it a deep thought. Ronaldinho's individual brilliance had no room in the modern game. In the modern game, there is no room for artist.

This is from Arsene Wenger:

If you look at the global evolution, we have moved away from defenders who only defend, from strikers who only attack, from midfielders where some defend and some attack, to be more demanding completely. Technically, today, the players in every position need to be better because of higher demands than 30 years ago. The pace is higher, the athletic side is higher. So, today, the right-back is technically better, the centre-back is technically better. Of course, you had exceptions in history but maybe it has also kicked out specificity; the creativity of some players because of the pace.

oga your argument is baseless.,saying defenders of today has improved and close the gap blah blah blah. Which gap? Did the modern day training improve just defenders and kept other departments stagnant? Or were attackers of old had a different training session that made them more fit or tactical than defenders of their time? 🙄

Reread Arsene Wenger's quote again. It is not by chatting. Give me one source that supports your argument.

Read Zidane:

Football today, physically it has changed a lot. In my time you can be less well physically it was not a big deal you could get out of it with your technique. Today, physically, it might have played tricks on me.

i quote your comment where you say they were a wide gap in respect to skills, techniques between the attack and the defence in old era, that you even refer to the defenders as grassroots. So my question is, in this modern era did the defenders improve significantly and the attack remains stagnant without any improvement that closed this wide gap

Today’s players are fitter and more tactical than the 2000s. That’s not even an argument considering all the advancements that have been made in sports science and analytics. The fact that they even felt like vomiting shows they were not dieting the way players do today.

However, today’s players are NOT more technical. Technique determined by player physical and mental skill while tactics are determined by the current system. If Ronaldinho and Kaka were much younger players playing now in the current football era, they would still be considered world class, but here’s the catch, they would be playing somewhat different than they did in their time.

Many people don’t realize that adaptability marked Ronaldo and Messi out and gave them a long run at the top. Their game shifted a lot from what it was in their early days. Messi for example, grew from just taking out defenders to create space, to skilled hold up play. Technically he was still a dribbler but tactically he was changing.

Ekong ball playing defender?if Ekong have all these attributes he will not failed in Gent and Watford, Ekong only had it so good with ordinary Udinese but really surprised you are trying to downplay a local Taribo who moved from NPFL to starting XI in ligue 1,from there to start studded Inter Milan.

Talking about defenders good with ball on their feet even in Super eagles,no one will mention Ekong,so really surprised seeing you telling us how great Ekong is with his feet on the ball.

Big question, will you pick Ekong over Keshi in modern day football of focus, start attacks, positional awareness, high pressing
