Not true bro, from all accounts of the war both the ones I have read and interviews of veterans on both sides, Victor Banjo opened up ceasefire talks with officials of Nigerian/British foreign agency without Ojukwu's authorization. Considering the nature of the situation, if you were Ojukwu you would have done the same. Those British foreign service guys are deadly as seen in their operations in conflicts around Africa. They can promise protection to them and ask them to handover Ojukwu. Infact a former Nigerian retired Senior Civil servant in Gowons govt. from Ibadan echoed this exactly the way I said it on his interview on radio Nigeria during the 15th Jan. Armed forces remembrance day last year. Factcheck0001: |

gidgiddy:Ifeajuna and even Kaduna Nzeogwu were no longer happy with the war trajectory. They wanted the bloodletting to stop and were actually in contact with their Nigerian counterparts on how to stop the bloodshed . Unfortunately for Ojukwu, his hands were eventually forced when the federal forces closed in on him. He had to Usain Bolt to Ivory Coast dressed like a cheap slvt at the end of the day |

gidgiddy:the problem with u lots is that u are not sincere n u lie to yourselves a lot. Fajuyi made it clear it's not right for his visitor to b killed at his home n he will b spared so he made it clear if they are killing his visitor they should kill him n vice versa So y are u making a fuse about clear history? What do u want yorubas to do about it? As regards the issue of ogundipe, u lots know the truth but are mischievous. So u are talking about the issue of ogundipe n reading it to be that north havw captured yorubas See I am beginning to realize y u people shout of marginalisation, u lie to yourselves a lot n that schemes u out of the reality and when people who tell themselves the truth are advancing u people will b stucked in your lies. Continue, at least many of u are beginning to wake up to the damage nnamdi kanu has done to u, let's see how long u will lie to yourselves |

Walai:Kindly furnish us with this report only you had access to . Was he the leader of the Biafran government? In hindsight , the cantankerous coward Ojukwu should have opted for the so called cease fire if it was indeed offered . Poor guy later ran away in the middle of the night leaving Effiong to surrender unconditionally |

gidgiddy:Was Iboland captured when Ironsi and other Ibo military officers were massacred in July of 1966 ? Wait, should Yorubas have gone on a killing spree of the Ibos in western region when the Ibos killed the western regional premier as well as the highest ranked military officer Ademulegun on the night of January 15 1966? You see how flawed your logic is ? |

You are free and when fasorontis daughter was killed , your messiah Tinubu asked where are the COWs? Nobody needed to liberate happy slaves. Gowon was the target and the seat of power was LAGOS. They didn't go to Kwara, Oyo, Osun ,Ondo etc. they passed through to attack Gowon directly in Lagos. So don't reproduce baselessly false narratives from your gathering of failures and try to pass it as the truth. Unity begging is petty chopnaira: |

owobokiri:Any narrative that doesn't fit into your victimhood narrative and sob stories would always be considered as false. So you expected the war to be like a football game, right? It's the crass hypocrisy and double standards for me. It's ok for your Biafra soldiers to kill people but when you're killed in turn, you cry victimhood. You crossed into the Midwest, killed people, attacked anybody that wasn't Ibo, advanced towards the western region and for some godforsaken reason expect the others to "siddon look". Are you people actually for real? You're crying here that Yorubas killed your people with weapons acquired from Britain; was it bow and arrow you expected them to fight with? When France, Israel, China and others were busy sending weapons and mercenaries, it was ok then, right? You said you wanted Biafra but instead of securing your frontiers and boundaries, you just had to come into the Midwest and advanced towards Lagos. And you want Biafra? Like Yorubas were supposed to just fold their arms and allow you to pass? Is something wrong with you people? This is getting really annoyingly out of hands for you people!! |

See bah, I am Middle Belt by blood and my uncles fought this war on the Nigerian side which I still regret till today. Unfortunately because of the fact that I always stand for the truth, I have been labeled Igbo here thats by the way. If I am a war time military leader and my subordinates are discussing ceasefire with my enemies, in military terms, I will charge them for attempted coup and any unbiased person that understands military way of doing things will understand what I am saying. There are many sources bro, read all accts of the war you know and you will discover a consistent fact, Banjo initiated cease fire without Ojukwu knowing about it. Zincfingers: |

esnbrutality:Babangida never said so to start with . He said the coup was meant to be a revolution but the outcome was something else . Ifeajuna who was the mastermind of the coup and acting under the instructions of his uncle Nnamdi Azikwe had another ambition which was to enthrone Ibo supremacy. This was the reason Ademoyega engaged Ifeajuna in a fistcuff when he sighted him for the first time in prison . |

Ojukwu never trusted Ifeajuna and Nzeogwu because they are known brutal soldiers who orchestrated the first coup of January 1966. So when Ojukwu got the information that Banjo and Ifeanju were plotting coup against him while negotiating with Gowon for a ceasefire, Ojukwu didn't take it lightly after damning evidence was presented against Banjo, Ifeanju and co. Biafra's decree on coup attempt had to take place and they got executed for plotting to topple Biafra Military Leader. It's sad but it is what it is |

Ttalk:My late uncle was a high ranking Nigerian military officer that participated in the January 1966 coup and later joined Biafra and was among the top ranking Biafra military personnel that headed Biafra conscription unit and intelligence too. He said a damning audio recording was played at the military tribunal that indicted Banjo, Ifeajuna and co. I don't have access to the tape, it should be available somehow but it's a highly classified information that won't be easy to find. Maybe only those that had first access to Ojukwu's personal office and bunker may have it, but whatever my late uncle told us about the January 1966 coup, the counter coup and the Biafra war were all spot on. He even told us that some of them regretted the January 1966 coup, and also told us some of the mistakes they made during the war. He did accepted some of their mistakes and told us some of the inhumane things Ahmadu Bello was doing that caused the January 1966 coup, so his stories were balanced but you guys from the Southwest only believe that Igbos are the aggressors and always the bad people who always do bad while your people always do good and no wrong, so nobody can convince you because you already have a bias mindset towards anything Igbo |

franchasng:Did you know whether am related to Col Banjo and equally have assess to first hand information of what transpired during that time. The problem with you guys is your inability to accept when you are wrong. The execution of Banjo signalled the end of support a SWner will render to the SE Because of politics, WS who was imprisoned for the cause of Biafra was cursed by Igbo today. Execution of Banjo will always be remembered and reference as the most thoughtless decision a man can make and it once again exposes the egocentric proclivity that would always checkmated by the larger Nigerians |
| Re: The Charges That Led To The Execution Of Victor Banjo- Picture by franchasng: 8:57pm On Aug 26, 2025 |
Ttalk:Even if you are related to Banjo does not make any difference because you might not be aware of the tape nor were you present at the tribunal that found Banjo and others guilty. Are you even aware that Ojukwu's in-law was among those executed alongside Banjo? Please leave that issue aside, they were executed for trying to topple Ojukwu's leadership and any military leader would do same talk more of one at war and at high risk of being eliminated. Back to Prof. Wole Soyinka, he is a highly respected man by Igbos for decades. You cannot blame Igbo youths who support Peter Obi for calling out and condemning Wole Soyinka for calling Peter Obi they support a "gbajue". In my tradition, they said, an elder is not expected to bath outside so that little kids won't use his balls (scrotum) to play tinko thinking it's a bell lol Prof Wole Soyinka brought the backlash and attacks on himself. Him coming out to call out Peter Obi and even going as far as calling him "gbajue" while promoting Tinubu wasn't elderly or statesmanly if you are honest to yourself. So mind your words, it is Peter Obi's Igbo supporters (not all Igbos) and even some none Igbos that attacked Prof. Wole Soyinka back for calling their man "gbajue". That aside, Igbos have always recognized and hailed Prof Wole Soyinka's support for Biafra in the past, and will continue to recognize and appreciate him for that and I can tell you for free that at any point in time Biafra comes to reality, Col. Banjo, Prof Wole Soyinka, Fajuyi, etc will be well recognized in Biafra nation with a forever legacy, go and note this down. |
| Re: The Charges That Led To The Execution Of Victor Banjo- Picture by Ttalk: 9:19pm On Aug 26, 2025 |
franchasng:You mean the sin of WS was calling Obi gbajue and that would warrant those abuses and curses. . Regarding Banjo, his execution was a grave actioon that will haunt your region for many years to come l. Executing him on phantjom charges of coup was comon excuses of African military rulers to execute their perceived enemy during that era. Abacha indicted Obasanjo and many others in phantom coup that didn't exist, so Ojukwu charges against him was just an alibi to kill Banjo. You can't rewrite history. It was a painful experience of a betrayal and hateful disposition of the Igbo towards her supportive neighbor |
| Re: The Charges That Led To The Execution Of Victor Banjo- Picture by franchasng: 9:20pm On Aug 26, 2025 |
Ttalk:...and I want to also point out something that you Yorubas should try and desist from. You guys always try to paint yourselves as perfect being that never do wrong. Like I told you, my late uncle that participated in the January 1966 coup regretted and he said most of them also regretted the outcome of the coup as it wasn't as they planned it to be. He said maybe if they had Northern soldiers amongst them who were drafted to execute the coup in Eastern Nigeria, that the outcome would have been better as they wouldn't have spared some of the high ranking Igbo politicians that the Igbo soldiers drafted to execute Eastern side spared which made the North and West see the coup as Igbo coup. This was one of his regrets Secondly, he never liked Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe just as Ojukwu never liked Zik too and never attended his burial. Most Igbos never liked Nnamdi Azikiwe as we believed that he failed us Igbos by not doing the right things that would have made Nigeria and Eastern Nigeria better as he focused mostly on outside politics to be seen as a national and African figure. This was one of the reasons most Igbos cherished Awolowo more than Zik if you take away Awolow's inhumane role in the Biafran war. You can always hear Igbos criticize Zik despite his influence in Nigeria. Same way, many Igbos don't support Rochas, Orji Uzo Kalu, etc because they see them as corrupt not minding how influential they are. You also see some Igbos condemning Nnamdi Kanu, Simon Ekpa, etc. You will see Igbos admit their errors but you guys from the Yoruba side will never admit that you are wrong at all even when it's glaring. Take a look at how Tinubu turned Nigeria upside down yet you guys keep supporting him and attacking Igbos for calling his government out. Someone like Tinubu can never even get Igbo majority support in the first place, he is in the likes of Orji Uzo Kalu, Rochas Okorocha and co to Igbos. We acknowledge great Yoruba leaders but you Yorubas never accept that any Igbo man or woman is good. Make una change if una want sha |

Walai:Dark clouds were gathering over Banjo's life even before the first coup. He was already suspected to be a potential problem and was under watchful eyes before Nzeogwu struck. Though he was years commissioned before Ojukwu, but his Midwest broadcast was a clear affront to Ojukwu's leadership. Perhaps this was what made the choice of Albert Okonkwo as Midwest Military Governor necessary. Many questions will forever remained unanswered. Why was he arrested by Ironsi in a coup he was not part of? Why did he rejected Ironsi offer to be appointed as Military Governor of Western Nigeria? |

franchasng:Tinubu became president in the past two years but before then your hatred for the man knew no bound. Why did you hate him so much even before he became the president? Many Yoruba were forced to believe it was unfinished rivalry that has existed in the past that was still playing out. There's no justification for such hate and that singular act made majority of The Yoruba to defend Tinubu, to them it was a fight for the survival of the Yoruba race and not rivalry of election differences. Igbo attitude before and after 2023 election was an eye opener to a moderate Yoruba, today they are conscious of everything coming from the East, as you have lost the warm reception you received in SW out of all other regions in Nigeria |
| Re: The Charges That Led To The Execution Of Victor Banjo- Picture by franchasng: 9:57pm On Aug 26, 2025 |
Ttalk:Majority of ordinary Igbos despise corrupt politicians. Tinubu's dislike by the Igbos started from Tinubu's role in blackmailing and removing Goodluck and his anti-Igbo politics that started from 2014 whereby he used anti-Igbo rhetorics to mobilize other Yorubas against Igbos in Lagos. Igbos have very good heart, very easy to make them like you. If you can remember, the same way some Igbos, mostly youths despised Tinubu's political life is the same way they despised El Rufai, Amaechi, Umahi, Rochas, Oshiomhole, etc but the moment those other one turned back and started calling evil evil, you can see the same Igbo youths now softening their dislike for them. If Tinubu turns a new leaf tomorrow, the same Igbos calling him out will become his number one fans, na so we be, we no de carry things for heart like you Yorubas, that's why despite the atrocities committed against Igbos by the North before and during the war, Igbos still went back to the North living freely, doing business and investing heavily there not bearing any grudges in mind, same thing they are doing in virtually all Nigerian states including the states that slaughtered them during the Pogrom but una Yorubas will continue to reference one thing or the other that happened in the East as your reasons for never wanting to live in Southeast or invest there. The difference is clear, that's why Igbos bounced back so fast after losing it all during war. That's how life of people that don't carry forever hatred and anger in mind works, they forgive easily and progress easily against all odds. |
